Sold Mazda 121 auto for sale - £500

Right, this has now passed its MOT so it's time for it to go to a new home as part of the Big Fleet Clearout.

 

The story is that I bought it off eBay about 10 years ago, drove it down from Sheffield, then later sold it to a mate who passed it on to his elderly mother, who used it sparingly for several years.  Eventually she began to struggle with the lack of PAS so it ended up back with me a year or so ago, and I've used it occasionally since.

 

It's done relatively few miles for its nearly 27 years (current mileage is around 79K) but being a Mazda the bodywork has had various repairs over the years, and the paint has had some giffer-style touch-ups in places.  It's also slightly pogweaseled on some of the panels, although a quick rub with some T-cut earlier proved that depogweaselling shouldn't be an issue.

 

The interior's in fairly good nick, although the front passenger headrest is MIA.  Also one half of the rear seat backrest is difficult to fold down as the pull ring for the catch is broken.  And the rubber trim round the base of the handbrake is missing.

 

All the electrics work, although the central locking doesn't always lock or unlock the nearside rear door.  The stereo is (I think) the original and the display is a bit faint but it works.

 

Mechanically it's all OK, as you'd expect from a low-mileage '90s Mazda.  Tyres are all good.  It had a new exhaust flexi section for the MOT.

These are great, never driven one but used to see LOADS of these in Belgium in the mid 90s.

I can confirm that (in manual form anyway) that these are a right hoot to blast around in. I had use of one for a short while in Australia. It was my bosses spare car and I hated the guy so drove it like I stole it. Surprisingly direct steering and a suspension setup that's predictable yet still a heap of fun and yet still manages to survive the fall to earth after getting a smidgen of air time. The seats are less comfortable in that situation.

I had one of these, M121 OMS. It was purple with a factory body kit inc. spoiler and 3-spokes, and a nice Mazda-branded leather MOMO steering wheel. It had purple dials and the big electric sunroof that folded 'both ways' so you could open either end or have it scrunched up in the middle of the roof.

 

It was bloody ace. Excellent fun to drive, surprisingly quick and the best gearchange I can remember. Brilliant car (apart from the rust and alarm-related electrical drain - also those seat-folding plastic loops go the opposite way to that you'd expect so I broke mine too)

 

I have just realised I'm not doing much to help with the sale of this solid-roofed auto version, but GLWTS anyway!

I was actually bumping the thread up because I'd taken some more photos of the car after I treated it to a Tesco Value car wash, but they were being an arse to get onto the computer.  Done it now though, so here they are.

Bought one of these for my mum back in 1997 and she had it for 10+ years with no problems at all.

 

Has a non interference engine for no cambelt worries too (B3 engine)
