SD1.  There is no such thing as an SDi.    Specialist Division 1.  Some insiders called it Solihull Drawing-Office 1.  Mine is a non V8 SD1, and so maybe a tad unexceptional.  A Sprint is a spiced up version of a staid car.

Sorry SD1 or SDi whatever, I drove a Sprint in the early eighties and it was something special then.

I actually agree with you - a well sorted Sprint was and still is a special thing.    My one is absolutely revving its nadgers off at the moment, and flying along.

SDi is a common error, but SD1 is what Rover called its big 70s-80s car in-house.  The car was not sold as the SD1, but as the Rover 3500, 2600, 2300, and 2000 (plus Vitesse and diesel variants).   The proposed SD2 was to replace the Dolomite, but was stillborn (it was a mid-sized hatchback that looked a bit like an 80s Citroen or Astra).  Some called the Honda Ballade-based Rover 200 series the SD3, but that was not official, AFAIK.

The Specialist Division was in effect Rover and Triumph, and the aim was to make upmarket and performancy cars.

The Rover 2300 and 2600 straight six SOHC engine is a Triumph engine branded as a Rover engine .

The 3500 is the Buick-based but Roverised all alloy light and compact Rover V8, also of Range Rover and TVR fame, tunable to ORL TEH POWAH.  In twin plenum Vitesse garb, it is a Space Shuttle powerplant.

The 2000 is an O Series SOHC with twin SUs (they all have twin SUs until the fuel injected V8s ones at the end).

The 2400 turbo-diesel is Italian, IIRC.

I always liked the SDone. I had a friend who has had a beautiful black 1979 T V8 manual which I got to drive from time to time and it was only 3 years old when he got it. His wife had Metro and was a teacher in Wing, occasionally she would take it to the school and park it next to the Headmasters Maxi!

My Dolomite wasn't accepted either which is probably a good thing as Mrs Triggers booked a sodden holiday that week so i can't make it. :(

My mates (Cortinaboy) Mk4 Cortina was been accepted though as well as another mates Mk1 Cavalier.

I wouldn't want post 1990 stuff in the concours bit anyway. It's already been extended from 1984.

I'll be in the 'shite parking' bit of the public car park. One thing I'd like to see them do is enforce the separation of moderns and shite, maybe to pre and post 2000. But I don't remember it being that bad last year, not many people actually turn up in modern cars which is good :)

Indeed, I'd say last year's public car park was at least 50% old/interesting stuff. It was pretty easy to wander around and find Good Content.

I just made sure I got there early.

Is the chodpark just a turn up and get stuck in job? May start a convoyyyyyyyyy with Angrydicky, always liked the idea of this show.

Well I've entered the mystery car into the show car park in the hope they'll bend the rules for me. They did get launched pre 1990 after all...

Bluebird booked in. Just need to try and make sure it can actually make it there now...

Time for a bump?

Yes, deservedly so.

I think the thread for last year's event may have disappeared or lost a load of content in problems being encountered at the time. I'm trying to sort out my photos and will post them as an appetiser before the 22nd.

I'm excited for this. Sounds like it's going to be a proper get together. I definitely booked in one of my cars for the forward parking but haven't got any confirmation yet....

I've not bothered with that for mine, as it's probably a bit too shabby for what they're looking for. I'll just park in the 'general.' Had to laugh when the organisers requested people bring their own drip trays!

There seems to be three parking sets this year, cars to be judged, Classic cars (pre booked) and a general car park in case you bring your new Bentley!

I was going to bring the Dolomite but Mrs Triggers booked a holiday that week :(

I plan to bring my suitably average Saab 900 along if i can get off my arse and finish the random bits of underside welding.

Otherwise it'll be the wifes samba green Honda CRX.
