I've seem to have aquired a parking pass for the pre 1990 bit with a 1991 Citroen. will I get in or thrown out into general parking?

It looks pre-1990, so I vote don't tell them.

If it's like last year, you'll get waved in if you're early - because they want the chod park to be looking impressive.  I was actually directed that way in my '93 Mercedes Benzos.

Tracking needs doing, and it uses a lot of fuel. Had a third of a tank at Penrith and it'd gone by the first services on the M61 (about Chorley), which is about 60/70 miles I'd guess.

This is a hopeless method of measuring economy though.  The last quarter on my Avensis does 50 miles.  The whole tank will do me 480 though, which is roughly 42mpg.

It'd be nice to see it.  Can you spare the £30 to get it tracked up?  A nice fat run out will give you a chance to brim test the MPG...

What he doesn't mention is the speed we were doing.

So I won't either.

Just found out that entries are now closed. Looks like it's going to be popular! I'm a bit gutted that I haven't managed to get hold of a beaded seat cover and taxi sign for the Bluebird, but perhaps that was a bit obvious...

In all fairness I am very very skint, too. Was going to use string and get Old Man to help sort it. I need to check the track rods not bent as well as I have a suspicion it is.

Posted

To be honest, while string can work, I think my garage charged me £40 for a full alignment check on the Bluebird, so that was worth paying. And skint is a valid excuse for not attending the show to be fair. It's why I've missed every one until now.

Unless this week improves, I'm out.

I notice the postcode on Hagerty's website is incorrect.  So Akeley village will be full of tat in the morning (or for those who are slaves to their satnavs anyway).

I don't even have a carpet in my shonky 1962 Vauxhall, so any 'satnav' installation is way off

I shall be using the AA pamphlet that came with the car.  Queen's highway and all that.

What a mess up, I have spoken to somebody I know who works for Hagerty and they have confirmed the show is at the front of the Main House and therefore neither of the postcodes on the website are correct.

Use the main entrance for the School which is the Dadford road that passes Silverstone circuit main entrance if you coming south.

Post code for the School is - MK18 5EH - this gets you in the correct gate and then drive towards the front of the school following the signs

That's 85 miles and they've a 55 litre tank across the range

You're getting 21 mpg out of an old Longbridge Honda?  I'm getting 30 out of the big banger 420 and I belt about everywhere to work every day (because always late)

What's causing that overfuelling then?  Is there an immigrant family tucked in that air box?

Posted

I'll refer you to alcygongcorp's post above in part, but I do feel like it's overfuelling a bit. No idea, maybe it needs a filter.

In part, it'll be down to it being a 1.6 D series with a very short ratio autobox.

Posted

To be fair, I do recall my 416 being a bit crap on fuel - low thirties as I recall.

Thanks for the clarification Six-cylinder. What a bloody farce eh? Have they bothered with an update on social media?

That's about what people got out of Piazzas back in the day. 21 mpg from a 58 litre tank. Urrrgh. Can see why a Celica or Prelude might have held more appeal.

Weirdly, mine's on 159k and gives 33mpg on high octane fuel, which is astonishing for a JR120 and very nearly an IPTOC record.

It's reverted to running like arse candle again but then again, it did 496 miles in just over a day.

I'm pretty proud of it.

Weather forecast isn't looking too sharp at the moment (although it may well be bollocks, as they often are for anything over about 3 hours hence).

Posted

Hope everyone enjoys it.

I'll probably go up North or get stuff ready for eBay.

That's genuinely a real shame Jon, it would have been great to see you and the Piazza.

Presumably you can still just turn up on the day though, and just get directed to the appropriate car park? Which I'm sure was mentioned last year as being just as interesting as the show?

I have no idea to be honest. I've not booked in as a display car, because I thought the Bluebird was too shabby, so I'm now confused as to where I'll be parking.

Posted

Three areas.

1) Arena cars.  This is the concourse competition area.  You have to have entered and been accepted for this.  You will KNOW if you're here, as you're in the competition.

2) Chod Park.  This is where the good stuff lives.  It's pre 1990 with flexibility offered depending on numbers.  You were encouraged to book for this, not sure how reservations went numberswise.

3) Public car park.  BINIs.  BINIs everywhere.

Shit. I was aiming for the second group, but I fear I failed to book myself in it, thinking I was booking myself into the first group if I did.

Posted

That's why I didn't bother booking; that and the fact I'm not 100% sure I'm coming so didn't seem right to book. Will have another look now to see whether I've missed out.

Posted

I haven't booked either.  But if the weather is shit (looking likely) chod car park might have room so I'm just going to turn up and chance it.

Don't worry, it works the other way as well :

https://www.hagertyinsurance.co.uk/articles-and-resources/events/festival-of-the-unexceptional

It is open to classic cars and commercial vehicles from across the globe that were built between 1966 and 1989

So how come my shonky 1962 motor got a pass then?  Because confusion

Just entries to the concours arena though isn't it?

[Hagerty]   Registration for the Concours de l’Ordinaire is now closed, but classic car forward parking can still be reserved, and free tickets for Stowe House booked by clicking on the button below.

Which implies you can still book for the chod park but if you turn up on the day you'll get directed wherever they feel like.  Taxi cab roof signs may confuse and delight in equal measure - it would be funny if you were sent straight back out and over to the bus stop.

But if you try and book parking tickets, you get told they've sold out. So it actually looks like only the 'normal' car parking is available, although whether that will be the case actually on the day remains to be seen. I'm guessing that if the weather puts people off and the chod park is half empty, they'll direct you in there anyway.

Posted

Sorry yes you're right.  Perhaps I've been sniffing too many fumes coming through the floor of my fillered wreck.

The booking list looks to have peaked at 200 motors.  One of those is our Trigger who has cancelled - but not told them - so I suppose he can kickstart the black market in doctored tickets

Looking at the list, Theo's booked in my old Trevi which will be good to see about

Plus also Mr Hirst in the Quintet I so nearly bought but was too disorganised to sort it and it's now on the road, hurrah!

Crikey the sole UK Argenta Volumex is coming down. Never seen this in the flesh.  Please don't rain.

A non forum pal with a Hyundai Stellar is going to be at this show. Is RayMK coming? There's a possibility of a Stellar threesome here!

Bluebird still seems to be losing coolant, I think. Took about half a litre after a 30-mile drive. It's going to be a nervous drive over tomorrow. I'll be carrying water!
