For me, this is what it's all about.

You already get a double take driving cars like these - when you're fully suited and booted with a smile on your face it just headfucks them.  Boom.  They're gone.

Nb orange water not just inside car. Small pool of orangey fluid visible in pez shot. Soupe de coolant au saveur de K Seal, peut etre?

Driver change. Skiz taking over as Handling Pilot after we have nommed M and S BP garage pastries. I am now doing nav and flight engineer stint, but mainly coms. How do you spell Mayday?

Do not ask who is Pilot in Command. There isn't one.

We have snacks and posh water befitting Rover 2600 and Granada Ghia types.attachicon.gifIMG_7915.JPG

Aren't the two pilots supposed to have completely different meals in case of food poisoning/death et al?!!11!

All collection thread must now have money shotz!

Never noticed the location of the passenger air vent before.

Optimum bollock venilation = set.  I know Martin is a natural fibres kind of guy too, so that's got to be very comfortable.

I'd imagine that your bollocks must get very sweaty considering how big they must feel when travelling in a SD1.

It's just dawned on me that i was close to buying that SD1 a little while back too before some stupid reason or another stopped me, good job really or this collection wouldn't be happening.

In fact Pilot Skiz ate Steaky Slice while Pilot me ate Chickeny Slice. The sausage rolls are emergency rations, although this being Portsmouth we should have honoured the traditions of the Navy and brought along Roger the Cabin Boy as emergency scoffs.

PS: We are on short final to land. Cat 3 ILS approach.

That's where the steering column exits on LHD versions.

Top thread, by the way!

Well... the Granny's gone.

I'm still not feeling better about it having to go, and when it left I even had a bit of a lump in my throat!

Still, it's gone to some absolutely top guys and it's safe so that does help.

Thanks Skizzer and Breadvan, pleasure to meet you both and thank you so much for sorting me out. I hope the Granny is everything you expected and you get back home ok with it.

I want a drag race granada v sd1.

I feel a What Car? Circa 1984 practical executive cars twin test photoshoot about to happen.

The Rover 2600 wasn't the quickest out of the blocks; the 2.8 was way up at the top of the Granada range.  Speed tests are therefore a formality, the Rover driver will be getting a good view of the back of the Granada as it heads for the horizon.  Antique dealers would also have chosen the Granada for being a proper estate car rather than a stylish hatchback.

I had a 2600, but the only Granadas I've owned have been Essex engines, not Cologne.

This might be a suitable place to mention that on Christmas Eve 1985 I was in my Granada 3.0GL on the Formby By-Pass, following an SD1 with the tailgate open... and sticking out, someone's prezzy, a lovely* new Sinclair C5.

As you were.

For what it was (a big old estate with high mileage!) that Granada was quick. It really could accelerate quickly too for an old slush box.

I remember when I bought it back in 2008 my dad followed me home, I was in the Granny and dad was driving my old Volvo 740 2.3 auto. The Granny left the Volvo for dead with ease! It just couldn't keep up for the whole trip.

The Granada wasn't one for handling though. Not really a consideration though with a car like that.

Breadvans Rover is a beauty btw for anyone who hasn't seen it. Lovely looking car and the interior is gorgeous. I'd love to have seen the two cars in convoy!

Skizzer and Breadvan took some... I believe a Woollard is included.

I hope you like this one Junkman! Whenever you manage to get hold of it.

Me too. Where iz picksherz?

Skizzer and Breadvan took them, I'll let them post them in their collection thread however they do it. Assuming of course they ever get home.

It's a shame you couldn't make it Junkman, you could of seen the Mercury while you were here! The others seemed to like it.

Quick question, which of course I could search the internet for but that's far too easy. I remember a Granada 2.8 Ghia X of this vintage as being injected yet this one is carbed. What's the script with that?

Some were injected some weren't. Just depends on what spec the buyer from new wanted. Carbs were cheaper and produced a bit less power.

Although in old age I think your best off with carbs as I think parts for injections are a bit of a nightmare now.

As much as I like to see a granny with the back wheels to the cage. Cap doft for saving this..

It's original price is well within some wallet banger racers budgets

I think few 2.8i's ended up as 2.8's because the injection is a fiddly bastard if it goes wrong.

Capri's 2.8i's were also converted to carbs if the injection system started causing trouble.

I had a 2.8i XR4i and it's one of the very few cars I regret selling.
