Omega is the end of the Greek alphabet, you see.

Well, the worst that can happen is that it fails spectacularly and I catch a train home. Or buy something on the fly...

Straight to Bridge and buy something for 200 quid or less in a five mile radius. Sounds a win win to be fair! He who dares rodders, he who dares.

What are you going to do if the car fails the test though?

Provided it's not deemed dangerous by the MOT station it's legal to drive a failure to a place of repair, so I'd drive it home anyway.

If it's a complete nope then bridging it and buying something with whatever you get sounds like a decent video to me!

If it is a spectacular fail, it will at least justify my decision not to drive all the way home to a pre-booked test.

Has to be said though, I have before been stranded away from home and needed* to buy something very quickly. That didn't go too badly...

That's true, but I was referring to the sentence that police aren't interested in no tax. That may have been the case last year but certainly isn't now.

Tax and insured is a must.

What has happened in the last year re road tax? I didn't think the Police even had a locus in no tax cases any more. I thought only DVLA had an interest.

I'm sure there would be someone in the vicinity what would buy the omega if shit come to bust DW?

Today I visited DW old haunt Copes of Earlswood. They have a complete diesel elite in stock, ready to pilfer!

It would, Omega 2.5 Elite was discontinued in March '01 according to my Glass's book.

As the tax is on DD, and due to stripping, having painted and then rebuilding my black MR2 in time for my mates wedding - plus about three weeks standing at the painters - I never had time to have the car tested (it would have failed on no rear fog fitted).

I drove that about a thousand miles in five days, including Durham to Somerset and back.

I got clocked speeding on the M5, and had a letter in the post from Avon & Somerset plod, so they will have known. The MoT was out by three months at the time.

I then proceeded to use the car on a semi-regular basis until I took it off the road in October. I was happy to do so because the car is otherwise tip-top, and I had decided I was moving the rear fog into the light cluster and titting on with diodes, which I still haven't done...

YOLO bruv!

I have had other cars out of test, some I knew of and some I never, and had traffic cars behind me and nowt was said.

My dad had no test for about ten months on one thing he had. He was unaware/hates cars.

In conclusion, Go DW, go!

By the way. I'm never very good at live reporting on the forum, so I'll do a post-caper report, like we did in the old days. I will, hopefully, be live blogging though! www.hubnut.org

They didn't. They do now since November.

It's caper day! Well, not that much of a day, as I won't actually see my new steed until tomorrow, but I am Bristol-bound.

I shall mostly spend the next two hours packing. Then, I'm getting a three-hour 'taxi' journey in a Mitsubishi Delica L400.

Seems to be taking a long time to get off the ground this mission. Crack on Wobbler!

I've spent most of this week planning it. That's really quite dull though. It mostly involved emails. This afternoon, progress actually starts to be made, while the main excitement kicks off tomorrow. I CANNOT WAIT. I've never owned a Vauxhall before, and it'll be my first six-pot diesel.

I'm in a shite-tastic VW Golf Mk3, not the expected Delica. It has a misfire, a knackered wheel bearing and many Pogweasels.

I'm told the only thing worse than changing the front wheel bearing on a Mk3 Golf is changing the front wheel bearing on a Mk4 Golf.

Misfire is coil unit if it isn't plugs or leads. (Usually - except when it's HGF or damaged pistons or....)

I remember when a collection caper involved no more planning than remembering to have a poo before you left the house.

We've all gone soft etc etc...

It isn't difficult, pop the hub off and take it to a garage to get a new bearing pressed in, refit.

Looking forward to the collection capers.

Having sussed that I can grab photos from my blog very easily, I can attempt a modicum of well, if not live, then not too horribly outdated.

On arrival in Filton, I spotted a Jaguar.

Then we got to the road where I'm staying. YES!
