Who has/what is the most undesirable car on here?

Well, it's still up for grabs. I never cancelled the raffle, in the hope that there would be a resurgence of interest and the remaining tickets would go, but they haven't, possibly due to the large number of other cheaper raffles that came and went this month (hence my concluding that it is properly undesirable :-D ). It can be bought outright too, as per the raffle thread.

The 9-5 is well liked on here, but the roffle on mine stop selling/hasn't sold out. I'm guessing its time of year, price and (in the case of my Saab) scared off too much by the faults (gearbox). I didn't buy a ticket on your Vel Shatis, as I have the urge* for a Smart Roadster Coupe atm, already have a big engined Renault on the drive and not allowed (by the better half) in owning more than 3 cars...

The Vel Satis has novelty value insofar as the small number of prospective buyers will pay more as it's seen as more than a set of old wheels to them.

My xantia, every time I try to sell it. Also tayne's BMW 330.

I can't believe nobody would want Tayne's BMW, it looks mega.

I have a PT Cruiser and a Multipla. it's a sure fire winning combination for competitions like this.

"VAG kru" haven't made anything cool.  Felicia Wagon is cool all by it self.

It needs to have heavily cut springs, sticking out rims, big flat exhaust and rear lights utterly useless in the dark to be cool... ;)

Nicole likes Clios. Maybe. gsn_25-Years_Clio_B.jpg

Sarah Beeny's looking a bit frail like.

I know I bought an unfashionable High Mileage 3.2 V6 petrol beast off a member here, but I'm guessing, that particular member, thought a triple rollover lottery win more likely.

I can't see that if I ever come to sell it, that anyone would want it.

Maybe I can keep it, until it becomes a Classic ?

Only given that I've done 6000 miles in 3 months, the miles will be mega.

Shame about the high miles 'cos the engine out of that will fit straight into my Calibra (with the inlet manifold & sump swapped over, obviously) ;-)

Ha! I binned a running 3.2 v6 last year when I couldn't even give it away...

I got it as part of a rwd kit to go into a Manta.

Still got the Senator Lsd diff in my container

As for the thread, I've had the much lamented P38,no less than Two Iveco Dailys (both totally reliable) and own 1 of Ford's finest Escort....

All seemingly hated by some, loved by others

It's all very subjective to personal taste

Or has the VAG Kru made them cool?

No, it's the lack of VAG that makes it cool. There's VW money in it but it's pure Skoda design. That one looks lovely. I realise no one is likely to have said that to you before! This is mine.

Neat little motor in a superb colour, looks a bloody sight better than some models that replaced it.

It's been scrapped, but FOAD's Tata Loadbeta was a car I just had a sheer hatred for.

Petrol Xantias seem to be about as desirable as leprosy so if it comes time to move mine on I expect a struggle. Also, Junkman's general theory of motor selling also applies.

The only way I can top that is buy a Chrysler Sebring Convertibe!

2 weeks ago somebody in Virginia said he would sell all 22 of his Chrysler LeBaron convertibles...most run...$500-2,000 each...1983-86...the ones with the simulated woody look. You could buy all and have a cheesy rent-a-car agency. Hoooge discounts for volume purchase.

Your basic K-car with 2.2 L motor. Has as many as 24 voice admonishments re: seatbelts, doors, and what-all in a lovely synthesized tone, uber advanced for its time...

When I bought the black OMGa for Supernaut, I did so foolishly thinking that the cambelt change in the service history done four years ago made it good for another four years.

Skip forwards and I'm feeling quite shit about buying a cambelt-lottery vehicle (THANKS OBAMA VAUXHALL) for someone 400+ miles away who made a judgement call in good faith.

While I think V6s OMGas, and particularly the 3.0 and 3.2s, are very desirable to those who know what they are, finding a friendly garage who is willing to invest time into doing a big job on one was bloody difficult. I rang around six or seven garages getting quotes for the cambelt job; my local friendly £40 p/h guy with a two poster lift and a workshop like James May's flatly refused, saying he hadn't the tools to work on 'an old dinosaur like that'.

Two other places gave me "go away we don't want your custom" quotes of £600+.

Finally it got done (twice, actually) at a rather obscure garage based in a nearby industrial estate, for what I believed was a reasonable sum given the size of the job. Still feel stupid about costing Supernaut an additional wad of cash (and duly stumped up a proportion of it myself) but you can bet I'll not make that mistake again.

And it genuinely did get done twice - I think the job was given to a beginner/apprentice at a lower hourly rate to ensure the competitive quote. When I picked it up, the tickover was lumpy and while it drove fine, it didn't feel right when idling. I basically lost my shit all by myself as I felt that Supernaut would endure a twelve hour day of travelling to be handed a broken car and punch me, rightly, in the face. The car was handed back to the garage, and promptly the apprentice I imagine, the next morning when Supernaut was due to be flying down to collect. As a matter of fact, his stupendous detour two hours up north to Inverness to fly down to Birmingham helped me as the garage had it for four hours and handed it back finally with the timing done properly, and the car running as sweet as a nut. I reckon it was stripped right back down again and re-timed; that apprentice probably had no pay that day.

Sorry for the thread de-rail.

TL:DR - 'undesirable' cars can also be pigs when it comes to finding a garage willing to carry out the larger jobs

Whilst buying 4 x 17 inch alloys off a bloke in Wigan (that I found on an Omega Owners Forum), who no longer had an Omega, I was offered a full cam belt locking tool kit, for £30.  He reckoned they are £150 new. I guess that NEXT Christmas I'll be doing the Cam Belt

Any regular car that has a big-engined and isn't German is awfully difficult to get a cambelt done on.

I don't like to think of an Omega as German, as I think the V6 will be from Ellesmere Port and there are Cadillac Versions of them.

These are ace. Properly good fun to drive and very distinctive with their wee pushrod 1.3- the 1.6 is a bit meh but clips along ok

Any regular car that has a big-engined and isn't German is awfully difficult to get a cambelt done on. I had the same issue with my Laguna. My friendly local garage phoned up his ex-Renault mate, who said don't touch it. Worse price was £1200 from a specialist. Another specialist quoted £750. Renault dealer said it'd be covered under their £400 any car (except RenaultSport) cambelt deal.

However after looking at the belt, its in excellent nick and speaking to someone else who was interested in the car and did some digging, appears to almost certainly have been done.

The S60 had its belt done by the dealer I bought it off; the receipt he provided me from the garage had that the parts/labour for the belt kit, plus the work done to the car's heating system (which had stopped working), come to well under £400.

My assumption is that dealers that become matey with specific garages will get discounted parts/labour rates. Also, the 2.0 in the S60 is the smallest engine and therefore offers more working space.

I wonder if dome is considering DIYing Mason's cambelt after he's tackled his 172's. :-D

The water pump is a twat to change on them, especially when fitted with PAS

FTFY.

The only people who really like Matizs are people with loads of cats and my old Form Tutor at school.

The Matiz is the worst car I have ever driven, but something has to be. Mk1 Astra was a close second.

I just can't see any redeeming features in them. So slow, have to be thrashed (so thirsty), look crap, shonky build quality, kill you in an accident and even though they're cheap, there is other stuff just as cheap that is a million times better. Even the one possible plus point, cheap insurance, is pretty mute as there is other stuff equally cheap but not as awful. (Sorry to all the Matiz owners out there...)
