vulgalour Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 *picture of knackered gold Talbot Solara* It's not Chinese*, British, post '86, LHM suspended, Peugeot or Rover so I reckon I'm in with a chance with this guess. I... er... how did I do that? Junkman, CGSB, STUNO and 10 others 13
Alexg Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Amazing!! This place is having a Simca overload at the moment, and that's a good thing. Junkman 1
Shep Shepherd Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Are you really going to use the car as a winter beater? It looks far too nice for that sort of role. oldcars, Magnificent Rustbucket, egg and 1 other 4
bub2006 Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Is it an auto box too? Very nice. Junkman 1
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Allegro's clutch has gone. Awaiting recovery. STUNO, Jim Bell and Junkman 3
Pillock Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Awwwwwww, flaps. Nice Solara though. oldcars and Junkman 2
dollywobbler Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 No tow rope? That'd make a truly superb caper. Sigmund Fraud, Junkman and HMC 3
hairnet Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 lovely solero insania using the allegro as the taxi tho Junkman 1
barrett Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Since when do you need a clutch to drive an Allegro? Skizzer and Junkman 2
trigger Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 That's just brilliant (not the breakdown of course, that's a right shitter). I've never seen that one about before. Snap! Skizzer, eddyramrod, Eddie Honda and 15 others 18
Skizzer Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Really??? A two tone beige Solara? FOR REAL??! You utter heroes! Shame about the Allegro clutch. Junkman, Magnificent Rustbucket, oldcars and 2 others 5
Squire_Dawson Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Probably the slave cylinder gone pop. Junkman 1
HMC Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Turning into quite a caper! Love the WBOD. Junkman 1
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I am now riding in the Solara. The Allegro is on the back of a flatbed making the same journey solo. Coprolalia, costadelglosta and Junkman 3
NorfolkNWeigh Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 I suppose the Solara is really a pre 86 405 ( OK, 87) so it was inevitable. Junkman 1
Felly Magic Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 OOFT, that is pure filth, and we have Mystic Vulg on the forum now too. Junkman, They_all_do_that_sir and vulgalour 3
LC Torana Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 OK, you have acquired a classic car to cherish and pamper, but where's your WBoD? Bait and switch. 44 gallon drum in the boot - really? Oh, and I love how it's a VdP - how very dare you call it anything else, but when the clutch goes, it's suddenly just an Allegro. Conrad D. Conelrad, Craig the Princess, Junkman and 2 others 5
stripped fred Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 Very nice! Well bought. What engine does that have? Junkman 1
Felly Magic Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 This is Simca-tastic! The beigeness gives it even more WINNAR status, I suspect there will be much spaffage over this latest Junkman purchase Junkman 1
Conrad D. Conelrad Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 00:19 still some distance from home. Skizzer, Uncle Jimmy, Coprolalia and 4 others 7
chodweaver Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 "I want that Chicken Badge I recently awarded myself with being withdrawn with a vengeance, so that at least a fraction of my former status can be reinstated" I'm trying to engage Mystic Vulg's second sight to get a glimpse of what the future holds for the Junkman/Solara love affair, but all I'm getting is fields full of people bowing down, chanting... 'we're not worthy' and a big stone tablet with the words 'your Atonement is complete' on it... Heroic enterprise, chaps chaseracer and Junkman 2
Braddon81 Posted September 24, 2016 Posted September 24, 2016 That's an absolutely beautiful Solara, and a total bargain at the price it was advertised at. Top purchase! Junkman 1
vulgalour Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 The Allegro did not fail to proceed. It gallantly fell on its own sword so that Conrad might experience the joy of being chauffered home in the Solara and be in the company of the Junkman on one of the rare occasions his trousers are not of offensive hue. privatewire, LC Torana, chodweaver and 5 others 8
Junkman Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 OK, where do I start? First of all, many, many thanks to all of you! If it weren't for you, I'd have nowhere to share my utter chuffedness with the car. Secondly, home has been achieved. Thirdly, what we have here, is a 1985 Talbot Solara Minx (= pov spec) that started life in German taxi beige all over. Its former owner, i.e. the seller, a wonderful man with sheds full of Simca/Talbot/Maestro/VdP shite (he is, as you may have guessed already, on good terms with PShome),gave it this rakish Autoshite Racing Team two tone paint scheme, which was originally reserved for Rapiers. That's why many people are a bit confused whether it's a Minx, or a Rapier. It does have the 1.6 litre Simca pushrod engine mated to a Peugeot 5 speed manual gearbox for astonishing motive power. It even sounds totally Simca. It also has PAS, but apart from this, everything is keep fit and blanking plate paradise. Fourthly, initially the car was a bit lumpy at low revs and stuttered a lot, but ran fine once up to speed. Also, there was no tickover, it just died. The seller had warned me that what little petrol was left in the tank is very old indeed. So I brimmed it with BP's second finest and after a while it ran a lot better and even developed a tickover. However, sometimes this is still a bit lumpy and the car sometimes still stutters a bit when going at a relatively low constant speed. At other times, it's running flawlessly. So I guess it's still a matter of contaminated fuel, which should go away after a while. This is the only fault I can find apart from the boot illumination not working! Everything else works as it should, including the interior light and cigarette lighter. The car is a lot bigger than I remembered them (I haven't seen one in the flesh for ages) and the ride is typically French wafttastic with some delightfully grotesque body lean when cornering. And finally, I just can't believe Vulgalour's clairvoyantness. Vince70, Dick Cheeseburger, tinribs and 24 others 27
