Has anyone got...a cheapish Transit for sale?

I'm after a Transit Mk98.723 (or whatever those post 2001 ones are) not arsed if short or long wheel base. Needs a decent lick of MOT and not have any mechanical (espesh DMF/fuel pump) issues and be under about £700. Which is a bit like asking for the moon on a stick with icing on top, seemingly. I'm not too arsed about the bodywork, it's only for collecting cycles, fly tipping and annoying people.

I have a wonderful* Corsa Combo 1.7 diseasel to part-ex if you want another van.

*Oh, I'm too lazy to travel too far, so within reason of Chester please. And yes, if there's a decent useable Transit Di about one of them would do the job too. But no Ivecos. Not now, not ever.

Keeping an eye on cheap vans, a cheap transit is probably not something anybody really wants. Unless they're pros with the sparkle stick!

What about a Fiat Scudo (same as, but cheaper than the same Peugeot/Citroen version)?

Talking to a guy at work who has just been lent a 11 plate Transit as a temporary van while his I***o is in bits.

He says it's great to drive, and we both like a transit but he pointed out how rotten it is at 5 years old.

We concluded that they either use special pre rusted metal or they paint them with a salt based primer at the factory.

They're not quite big enough and having tried driving a Citroen Relay at work I think I'd rather eat an athlete's foot shaving sandwich.

Renault master is a good bet, around 1998, especially if you can find a non turbo. Genuinely the most reliable van I have ever had. Couple of wheel bearings and a drive shaft was the only repairs in over 200000 miles. Not rotboxes like sprinters and transits either. A drunk lad wrote mine off.

The only "proper" van I could find with that budget that wasn't a pile of rust was a Trafic

Technically, a Trafic is a front wheel drive = not a proper van!

Most of the small transits are fwd. you'll be hard pushed to find a cheapie in reasonable nick. All the ones I have looked at have had previous mot fails for rust, rust and more rust. Most look like the Tarmac gang has been making the stuff inside and done a dirty protest all over the van interior. And Apollo 11 seems to have travelled less distance. Oh and they all have a fault that isn't apparent until you start asking questions. Fuel pump, slight knock from the engine ... They all do that, sir. Lol

Unless you find a DI of course.

Peugeot Boxer any good? I know of an old boy who runs one as a daily. It's the earliest one I've seen and just keeps plodding on

Thanks for the input, I think for now I ought to sack this idea right off. In the good old days, you were never far away from a <£500 Di that would do for a few months, now everything up to grand seems to be absolute shit.

This - I re-evaluated my van watching and pretty much decided to spend much more money on a more modern van.

So, hijacking this thread. I am after a lwb (19ft or 21ft) Ford converted six seater crew van with the single bench in the rear - as new as possible for as little as possible.

Should of brought my DI m8.

What's wrong with Boxlaycatos?  I've had four and rather like them.  Unless the one you drove was a 1.9 NA diesel, of course, in which case I fully sympathise.
