The other acquisition this week, not sure if I'd mentioned so apologies if I have.

Most (but not all) of the fleet...

The Polo only has seventy something thousand miles on it. Drove ok to be fair, but because it's a VW it has its problems, namely: piece of wood holding driver's window up. 'Passenger window sometimes drops into door if you open it too far' the lock doesn't work on the driver's side, nor the electric mirrors. I pulled the grommet back on the driver's door to find shit looking wiring, so I suspect most of the problems are related to it having 'done a BX' with the door loom.

It needs a wheeltrim and a crack team of industrial jetting operatives to clean the bloody thing.

Not all of them. MG (Midget) has been collected and long since gone, I think about 1/3rd of it is still floating round in the wind outside. I now have no 405s, either.

I'm ooot, all to new for me (or my insurance company).

Didn't realise you'd managed to wrangle a Calibra! Can we have a 'real world road test' of that, or just point me to the thread you've probably already started that I ignored for some reason

Posted

I'll box that off this weekend if I can. I had to rob the battery off it to put in the 405 because it went yesterday.

I think the windows on the Polo have a hole in the glass and a peg that pushes through to secure it to the runner. You'll probably find the peg at the bottom of the door skin, it's like a two part plastic split thing.

What engine in the 406? I'd lick a 2.0 pez but they all seem to make £700 on the bay, presumably then travelling onwards to Ghana or wherever

Slightly off topic, but how on earth did you manage to shift that and what cocktail of illicit substances was the buyer on to think buying that was a good idea?

That Polo is exactly the sort of car that should be bought in the dark.  When you sell it be sure to use the term RATLUK and ask £eleventybillion for it.

2.0HDi, I had a 2.0 petrol which was a bit of a bogey car for me.

It went fairly quiickly to someone in that there London. As rusty as it was, I expect for someone with lots of metal and the ability to weld, there was probably a decent profit in it.

That Polo is fucking hanging. Good work!

I read that polo engine cover as 1.4mpg when I first looked!

Scrubbed up pretty well, all things considered.

It's the 2k16 version of leprosy.

If I needed a cheap smoker, I'd be all over this. And yes, I would probably end up pineappling it.

That green was a very popular colour on them Polios.

They do feel well built, I think they used the hardest plastic known to man.

We had a (green) estate in work new, and I remember dropping my guts in it and keeping the electric windows shut so my mate could fully enjoy it.

I had this up for more on social media, but because of that fact (advertising medium, not price) I've been iundated with twats and twatty offers.

Known faults:

It's a VW, they're shit.

One wheel trim missing

'Sometimes if you use passenger window it drops down into the door'

It's a VW, they're shit

Driver's door lock doesn't work

Driver's window wedged in with an old fashioned 'block of cheese' piece of wood

It's a VW, they're shit

Driver's door card seems to have been attacked by a hungry animal.

Electric mirrors don't work.

It's a VW, they're shit.

Dent in front wing

I think the problems are mostly related to the wiring to the driver's door, there's at least one wire that's been cut and taped up either end, plus one that's bared in one place.

It does actually seem to drive ok and the electric sunroof works, as does central locking via the passenger door. Tyres all ok, and it's only got 74,000 (or so) on the clock.

I said somewhere (possibly this thread) it would be £150, so although it's surely worth a bit more, that's the AS price:  £150. I'm in Chester, come and take this eyesore away and save me the humiliation of having the bastarding thing in the company of better cars. Ergo everything else I own, even the £5 mountain bike with the flat tyre.

Yep, for 1.2375809935205184 (approx.) monthly payments on a new one, or about 5 weeks in total, you could own this one.

I once tried sorting a pair of similarly afflicted windows on a green polo 6n. Took the door cards off, had a look at the mechanism and put a scaff bar through the glass, before pulling the whole sorry mess onto the back of a 400k mile LT beavertail and taking it to the waste traders. Probably best sticking with the block of wood

Hey Cav that bike looks like the kind of bike that would be great fun to ride all the way home from Rotherham after you deliver the polo to my Nan. She might even make you a cuppa with UHT milk.

But seriously if it goes/stops/steers and anyone can get it over here then it's perfect for her.

If I had the time I would genuinely have a go at driving up and biking it home with a stopover on the way back.

(Advertised for £195)

'I've priced up the bit and it'll cost £30 from a scrappy, so I'll give you £140'

Oh good, I've priced up similar cars on Autotrader and they're £400 so I'll let you give me Â£345.
