Anyone for a Midas?

Been seeing this Midas (Mk2?) parked at the entrance to Norton House Hotel on the A8 near Edinburgh airport over the last fortnight or so. It appears to have a For Sale sign in the window (at least I think it's that, not "Police Aware") but I haven't had a proper look since I'm usually barrelling past at 70 on my way to work at the time (hence the rubbish photo).

Always had a soft spot for these ever since I saw a grainy photo of one in Car Mechanics in about 1978. Doubt I'd actually fit in one though, and one geriatric jalopy is about as much as I can deal with (or get away with) at the moment.

TR7 rear lights is the only thing of note I know about the Midas.

Posted

I have a soft spot for them, but I really prefer the later ones with round headlights and bubble wheelarches.

The later ones with the Chavalier (i think) rear lights looked much better IMO.

The late Russell Bulgin had one and I think he was about 6' 2" so they must be as tardis like as the Mini. I fancied building my 1275gt into one at one time.

It looks like a Metro that's making eyes at another car.

I spotted this the other day. Quite like them. Maybe not enough to buy one though...

Minis were not shit, they just let water in and went rusty, so fibreglass body makes perfect sense.

I once worked with someone who had one, it was very nice.

At the time I had a crap Mini Marcos.

He liked mine because it was a Marcos.

I liked his because it was finished.

Any chance you could find out how much it is?

I'll see what I can do - some days it's there, some it isn't...

Having owned a Ford powered Ginetta I can't say it was a paragon of fine engineering.  A bit like picking football teams at school playtime, both the A Series and Pinto would be the wheezy, red faced kids left until the very end.

Still not sure what he means, unless he really is saying that the McLaren F1 that he designed is worse

I thought it looked like some sort of cartoon car you'd see on one of these Disney films that seem to be on endless rotation in our house.

That's a bit like Michel Roux saying for tea he really couldn't beat a Vesta Curry.

Mmmmm, vesta...... I was 16 before I realised people other than vesta made curry.

I think they're cute but wouldn't be seen dead in one. Sorry!

The last version of these:

I just happen to have a recently rebuilt turbo A series engine and straight cut box sat in my garage awaiting something to go in..........

Wasn't really interested it just came up on me, didn't realise til later it was this one.

Had another look and a read through.

Seems it may be out of our price range. Someone has been quoted £3,950, with a spare shell he says.

Maybe worth asking about the shell Tamworthbay, but would be a pain to register.

Ouch, needs to be a minter for that money, but it could be I guess. Having had fun with the old SVA on a Robin Hood, the Idea of trying to get a Midas through an IVA does not appeal sadly.

Thanks for the info anyway.
