I like these Toledos. One of the car magazines slated them for having 'upturned basin looks' but the point that it looks different to most other cars of the time is it's appeal.

I papped one about a decade ago which I had to go right back in time to Photobucket to excavate...

A pre MOT roll n skwerr (Avec puddink noir) was had. @SiC should know the location.

Then it was off to see the man from the ministry - after the alloted time...

Great success. He says the brake pipes are starting to look a bit tired - so I think I'll see about doing them soon. With it not having ABS, it should be simple enough.

Oooooft! Need to get a clutch in it, but it's so much nicer to drive than the ML.

Are these the first Seats to get their vagginations?

Mk2 Golf underneath?

They are a mix of MK2/3 golf bits I think, but mainly MK3 aye.

They were A Skoda Octavia about 6 years before Skoda made one..

Oh yes, how could I forget that square "Sausage" experience! I won't deny, I prefer the round variety.

I'm with SiC on the square sausages.  Never got the appeal, they're a bit boak.

To be fair, I'm a softie Southerner. I'm not built for the hard, cruel weather of Scotland. Maybe if I was, I'd like the square sausage.

You can practice on me first as a trial run. Not too keen on irn bru though, it goes down alright but makes my breath stink for some reason.

This has been doing sterling service as a daily hack.

Today it was on Scotoshite duty - and that included being in the general location of the venue a bit earlier than usual.

I met up with Dome of this parish at a nearby Morrisons - having jumped in to get Somnath for my lunch on the morrow.

Upon espying the S4 burbling past, I started the Toledo and drove the 120m to the petrol station. Put 20L of fuel in the car and then moved it over to the air compressor to wait on Dome after the S4 had ate it's fill at the LPG pump.

Dear reader, at this point I made a critical mistake. I switched the car off.

With Dome in train, I decided to set off.

The Toledo thought different. Not even a peep. Even with a bump start, no dice.

Now, what I needed was a set of jumpleads - a set was in neither car. Nor the petrol kiosk or the substantive supermarket.

Time to call out the SVM! The 463rd rescue service..

Whilst we waited on the SVM Patrol, we watched the snaw come doon.

Presently, Patrol RML2345 arrived with his leads, and green boxy jump start machine

As soon as the leads were connected, (and before the Volvo was fired) she keyed on and started lovely.

Scotoshite was successfully reached, and I am just in after an entertaining snow filled trip home.

Cheers again to @dome and @rml2345 for the help - top chaps!

This decided it didn't like having the mid pipe attached to the downpipe..IMG_20200311_162802.thumb.jpg.3fbc0906b65118d58a6067473c0fdaec.jpgIMG_20200311_163302.thumb.jpg.6e69ca68a69c9706d2c3152bbef44c45.jpg

a new centre box appears to be about £40. But no doubt the Backbox will be grumpy too.

i'm off work tomorrow so may investigate further if weather permits. The car is currently at the hoose:)

Oof. I bet that sounds nice*

The 316 is sounding a bit fruity at the moment, as the ECP special back box we put on in 2016 is going a bit grotty again. I've bought another one but I need to work myself up to the fun* of fitting it.

I still need to see this fine Toledo in person. I'm developing a bit of a thing for 90s base spec cars!

The Meriva I used to maintain always shat the joint between the centre pipe and backbox every 3 years or so. And every time it was always just cheaper and easier to fit an entire ECP special centre pipe and backbox and just ignore it again

Did you do a video without exhaust? There is some odd fella on here who seems to like that sort of thing :-)

We now have an exhaust in stock. It came in two pieces so I am wondering if I can get away with just fitting the long pipe from cat end to the mid box (actually located over the rear axle)

Need to push the golf out the way first...

I borrowed a grinder and a jack off of the neighbours and set to sorting the exhaust.

Initial investigation suggested it would be a pain.

The original mid section and box are one piece, and the floor of the car has a bar bolted on that would make getting such a length of pipe out somewhat difficult

Rather than have a huff, I decided to to think inside the box. The sleeve joint provided with the new exhaust was long enough to join the existing pipe to the cat section.

5mins with a grinder and hammer had the pipes ready for the joint to slip over, and get persuaded* into place.

*Twatted with a hammer

The result?

IMG_20200508_151246.thumb.jpg.f489fd3a36ac787c70815e477f4c5994.jpg

Started it up and it's silent as a fish:)

It'll at least do until I can get over to the unit to fit the whole new unit.

Fyi, the title is maybe* a play on the name of the colour

Grand job chief.

If you get around to replacing the rest of the exhaust before it’s gone through 3 MOTs like that then you’re a better man than me.
