Sometimes when i am towing terminal dead ones and the pissed off owner is in the cab with me they do often joke about slipping me a drink if i ''accidently loose their car off the back''.

Just sayin like... ;) ;)

That is firmly on my watch list. To the point that Phil has offered to go and look at it for me. Jeepers the ad makes me slightly scared to meet the seller though.

Lots of metal for the moolah but ultimately one big bill from the bridge.

Isnt that the case for 80% of the cars on here?

The Legend is in a great colour, is an old GS300 also on your list?

Predictably I concour with Mr twosmoke a V6 Accord coupe has all of the wafty qualities of the big saloons in a prettier body coupled with the ablity to press on through the twisty stuff quite capably.

Theres a tidy 2.2 of the previous model on autotrader for under £ 400 with 12 months ticket at the moment, looks a tidy motor with a much stronger autobox.

Aye, V6 Accord Coupe and GS300 very much on my list too. I think six needs to be the minimum number of cylinders, possibly five - though that's a rarity in a Japanese car (just some very oddball Honda I think?).

I ran a Mk1 GS300 for 18 months, it was reliable, dull and surprisingly underpowered.

I own a 2CV. That's reliable, not at all dull and very, very underpowered. Plus, the 600 diesel was not exactly swift. Felt bloody lethargic after the XM. I didn't really mind.

I think I was just a bit disappointed as they were marketed as something of a 'sports saloon' at the time.

It was a damn good car, don't get me wrong but having driven various LS's, it was hard to believe it was made by the same firm. I'd hold out for an LS personally.

The Legend says "air con not working". Well, I'd have thought you'd have learned your lesson on that one. New pipe and re-gas one minute, shagged gearbox the next. Quite clearly linked.

It has to be the Camry: Devon + Jap tin = good combination.

I've always found it's remarkably easy to be equable and easy going when something bad/calamitous happens to something (even someone!) that you don't give a shit about, rather different when you're emotionally invested in it/them. I was damn near suicidal when that bin went into the side of the Bentley and put a dent in it. In the grand scale of things, it was fook all but at the time I cursed everyone from God to the pope via the bloke next door and the dog Chester hates. On the other hand, an asteroid could land on the Kia and so long as the space boulder was insured by someone, I couldn't give a shit!

Good luck with getting it all sorted out and the hunt for a new brum-brum.

Its really cool that thing. I have spotted it on the bay several times too. I reckon if you turned up with cash you could get it for a lot less than 1500, it genuinely has been for sale for years.

That's a good point DW.

If I'm spending anything more than a throwaway amount on a car, I always try and imagine selling it on afterwards.

So long as you don't take things too far or you end up buying a silver VW.

To the AA's credit, the claim has been dealt with swiftly and professionally. Cash settlement sorted. End of the road for the Rover, unless anyone on here fancies a project? Cost, £20 which is to go to the tea fund of my local garage for their time inspecting the car and preparing a quote for repairs. Otherwise, I'll tell them to weigh it in and keep what little it fetches.

how you deal with it that matters.

I'm sure we will find that out in about 3 days... What you bought then?

 Cost, £20

You beat me then, £20 for a fully road legal (as in has an MOT...) car! Utter bargain, and people moan there isnt enough cheap chod in the world...

(It's gonna be scrapped isn't it?)

Would a 30 day Ebay 'breaking Rover 620Ti, all parts available (except gearbox) advert for free not be an option? Might claw 200 quid back and see that some bits live on. That'll go straight into the shredder otherwise.

Oh, I'd go for the Camry. They're a lovely old thing.

Pretty much. I get free listings in the parts section, 99p wheel bolt etc. 30 days on a buy it now listing.

Mind you, how many folk are after Roewe 600 bits? Could be a veritable parts fest or a deafening silence.

I could do with the drivers elec door mirror, drivers door e/w mechanism and electric aerial if the spares route is open?

Posted

I haven't got time to take bits off, so that path doesn't seem likely. Both front window mechanisms are in good shape though, the electric mirrors work and the aerial sort-of-almost fully retracts. I'm planning to nip down to the car tomorrow, so I can ask whether the garage are prepared to strip it.
