gm Posted August 11, 2016 Posted August 11, 2016 very happy to hear you have done the deal - like everyone else, I have fond childhood memories of these. I managed to spot one in the wild last year, same colour as your new toy http://autoshite.com/topic/10017-the-news-24-thread/page-723?do=findComment&comment=792770 Dick Cheeseburger, holbeck and pilninggas 3
Junkman Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Rancho is South American Spanish for a type of simple, austere rural dwelling. Not sure whether I would use a moniker with this association to sell a car, but that's what you got, a shed in plain old English. Semi-C, HillmanImp, Skizzer and 4 others 7
brownnova Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Good news!! Glad it's worked out so you can have the great experience of real life Rancho (as opposed to toy rancho's like me and many others) and we can all read about it here!!
dollywobbler Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Brilliant. I wasn't in The South until you were well on your way home. Good luck with the collection. This is going to be ace!

sierraman Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 I don't know if I've dreamt this with being up all night feeding a small child but I can remember years ago a consumer type program where this guy had bought a black Rancho and after inspection it turned out to be a cut and shut...
HillmanImp Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 My Rancho memory is of a green one that was for years and years parked next to Victoria Park in Worthing... Mr. HillmanImp may also remember it. I don't recall seeing that, shame. I am sure I would've noticed it as have always had a thing for these. I do vaguely remember one in the same colour as Skizzers one when I lived in Gretna as a bairn.
Vantman Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Depending on the date there is a spare bed at my place Martin if you want to make a two day collection journey. Skizzer and eddyramrod 2
barefoot Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Another quick congratulations and good luck with it.My mate's dad had one of these when I was at college.I remember being very non-plussed by it at the time because it was only 2WD and not 'proper'.Turns out it was the SUV shape of things to come - Rancho is car of the Future - Shock Horror! Skizzer Posted August 12, 2016 Author Posted August 12, 2016 Depending on the date there is a spare bed at my place Martin if you want to make a two day collection journey. That's very decent indeed of you sir, thank you. I'd like to get a good chunk of the way back home though I think, so the trip doesn't eat too much of Wednesday too. I'm visualising the Travelodge at Leigh Delamere or Reading West services, cos then I know I won't have to do any reversing with the trailer. I fear reversing with trailers. A man's got to know his limitations. Did I mention the handbook? It has a handbook. mat_the_cat, groovylee, Dirk Diggler and 19 others 22
scruff Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 When you get the jetski to go with the Rancho lifestyle you'll have to master reversing. anonymous user, andrew e, oldcars and 3 others 6

holbeck Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 The Matra Rancho of Jetskis: Finding one might be more difficult than finding a Matra Rancho, though. I shit you not, my FIL was the Wetbike UK importer. Sadly he doesn't still have one. Although he does have a VHS cassette of him appearing with one on Magpie. scruff, Bear, Shep Shepherd and 11 others 14

AnthonyG Posted August 12, 2016 Posted August 12, 2016 Was the Wetbike the one in the Bond film (The spy who loved me)? It looks very similar. Remember reading it was just about invented when it appeared in the film. holbeck 1

Captain Furious Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Top purchasing, those clocks, remind me of my mums old Chrysler Sunbeam, and how the speedo went backwards when you reversed. This used to intrigue\amuse me greatly as a kid. Junkman, oldcars, Skizzer and 1 other 4
Split_Pin Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 I like that green one you posted Trig, same as my Bburago one 😀
Shep Shepherd Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 The orange one's a Découvrable version. Nice!

Braddon81 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Some more Ranchotastic images of them being built, and also one of the first prototype mockups! Bear, Shep Shepherd, pshome and 8 others 11
Braddon81 Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 Original concept sketch, plus also a Rancho Grand Raid minus body kit that shows hopefully that if the the rot on the rear sills and quarter area isn't too severe on Mr Skizzers, access to repair it without pulling off the rear body is entirely feasible. Shep Shepherd, BorniteIdentity, Cavcraft and 2 others 5
Junkman Posted August 15, 2016 Posted August 15, 2016 That's what I try to tell you for a week now. What is behind the GRP panels usually isn't rotten.Even if there is rot in the sills/lower rear panels, it isn't difficult to repair.A pillars are a different story... barefoot and Braddon81 2
chodweaver Posted August 16, 2016 Posted August 16, 2016 As far as I can tell, no one has yet trotted out the rumour/legend from the 80s about a police force trialling the Rancho as a cost cutting replacement for their fleet 4x4 of choice, the Series 1 Rangey. So I will.Of course it goes like this - once our heroic officers had finished transferring all their favourite boot filling items into the Rancho - cones, signs, lights, oil absorbing stuff, shovels etc, the poor Rancho was sitting decidedly low on it's springs and wouldn't move off without burning it's clutch up.So they didn't buy any and instead bought more Land Rover fare. There. Now it's done. Sent from my GT-S5830i using Tapatalk 2 Junkman 1
