Car on the green photo heavy PHOTOZ

Today it was the big car show in Bury St. Edmunds call Cars on the Green, over the years this show has got bigger and bigger and now it's probably the biggest one day free to enter car show in the country with over 1100 cars in attendance today so there's plenty of variety and new cars to be seen.

I'll start of with this lovely little Corolla that was for sale, It looked like it's had a recent respray but to a good standard, 1.3 5 speed and big boot, what more do you need?

This Cortina 1.6 L didn't look quite so nice in the flesh so it did on Facebook, quite grotty in fact.

Now this Saab 99L 2.0 was probably my car of the show. The owner has recently bought it, It had been off the road since 1996 after the eldly owner died and it's only over 25000 miles. It passed it MOT Friday needing only a brake master cylinder and downpipe. It wasmega clean and the interior was mint, it's had a blue matching seat cover fitted from new!

The headlights were like a work of art, these work with the wipers on high speed by going cross ways unlike the Turbo which went up and down as the turbo was in the way of the wiper motor!.

This 96 was a prototype for the Ford V4 engine as it's a mega rare car although the current owner didn't know this when he bought it 18 years ago, he's recently finished restoring it. He's got it on display at the NEC in November but he's said it's never been in a magazine or anything amazingly. It's mega nice. Apparently Erik Carlsson raced for Ford briefly so that he could get the V4 badges for the front wings so that the press to see them or something. It's a interesting car.

The older owner of this 1850 HL recently bought it after selling his MGB as he struggled to get in and out of it, he said it's a FAR better car than the Sherpa Coupe.

post-3625-0-77498300-1466368185_thumb.jpg

Yep, 8022 miles from new!. The current owner has owned it since 2008 after the original owner died when it was 2 years old and his widow left it in the garage.

post-3625-0-82434900-1466368200_thumb.jpg

He said he doesn't know what to do with it as he never uses it as he already owns a lovely early Celica and doesn't want to get this one damaged or bump the mileage up. I think he'd sell it but doesn't even know what it's worth.

It even had that new car smell. Strangely all the tyres are still original but not a make I've ever heard off, I'd had thought it be on Dunlops or some such brand from factory.

Thanks for these Trig.

PT Cruiser is mad!

The treatment of the K70 doesn't seem to suit it at all.

Posted

Great photos and report thanks.

My musings;

That White Cortinas panel gaps are as bad as a facelift Rover 75.

How the fuck does that PT numpty not get arrested, not just for bad taste but for driving a dangerous vehicle, people get fined for tints!

Old SAABs are just class.

I think that CX is on Alfa 166 rims.

I quite like the K70 with its Vulgalour paint and Cosmics , the air could be removed.

It was up for £2250 which when i saw it on Facebook i thought was a fair price but up close it's very scabby and tatty.

It's a proper pile of wank, those window covers are just panels over the glass and held on with mastic.

He's a very nice chap, he was saying he had about another 5 Saabs at home!

Semperit tyres, I seem to remember them being all over the motoring press in the 70s/80's

Great stuff, thanks for posting up some worthy content, as usual. It's great to see so many ordinary cars being looked after so well and enjoyed but I really wish I wasn't such a saddo and could just look beyond all the post-2001 plates. Highlights for me are the SAAB and the Fiesta Ghia, especially in that bronze colour.

One question though, sadly about a modern; how come that Mehari doesn't have an airbag in the steering wheel? Unless it's one about the size of a party clown's sausage dog balloon, of course. Different rules for small electric cars? Or it just looks better without one and it's a concept anyway, so doesn't really matter.

Posted

Coincidentally, Mrs S and I spent two nights in Bury St Edmunds, Monday and Tuesday of this week.

Lovely town, nice people, great pubs etc., if it's your home town then I'm very envious.

I'm guessing it's just because it's a concept car still?. I should have asked really but it didn't click at the time when i was looking at it.

I'm Ipswich which is about 25 minutes east of BSE and not quite as nice, Bury is a lovely little town, the smallest pub in the country can be found there!

Corolla is fab. I want to keep my puppies in the back. The Saab too;

Here's a couple of tasty rumps I papped today. Seen a couple of Austin 3 litres recently, they're a favourite of mine, the Fiat 128 3P is one I'd never seen at a show and it's a little cutie.

Hmm, I wasn't aware the CX and 166 have the same PCD.  Interesting...

164 and 166 wheels quite common on CXes, I think Scooter formerly of this parish had some on his.

605/XM and Eurovan mpv wheels are the same PCD too, I had some 164 Super rims for a Ullysee once , they fit ok but looked weird so I binned them!

This looks good, well I think so, and cheap.

I thought £1500 was a remarkably good price for the Corolla (especially given that it’s RWD).

Trigger, did you get a photo of the Mk1 Transit that was in the public car park? Luckily it caught my eye when I walked through to the PT Cruiser stand, so I didn’t see the full effect of what they’d got on display. However I never got round to walking over to get photos (got a bit confused by the layout and I may well have missed some areas as it was).

Some interesting cars on display I hadn’t seen before. My daughter was taken with several 1950s/60s American things that apparently I have to buy when she’s 18. In fairness we did agree on some of them (more so than I did my son’s enthusiasm for the Audi R8).

I’ll try and add a few photos at some point (of different stuff, obviously).

Posted

I did see that Transit and wanted to look at it but i had the pram at the point and i couldn't see a easy way to get to the car park so forgot about it.

I think that Corolla was probably a good buy for someone, i do wonder why it's had a respray though.

Thanks for sharing. Some good snaps, the brat used to belong to a mate of mine. I have the old truckman top off it for my brat. Has a turbo engine fitted and is/was pretty damn quick. And saxo wheels fitted with adapters.

Completely forgot this was on. Looked a good bash, nice shots Triggs.

It was a good show and a fitting end to the SSCoN Classic run on Sunday. If you saw a Opel Monza in the Classic run carpark it is mine.

The Hillman Avenger estate? in the first piccy looks a very similar colour to PurplebargeKen's former Triumph Toledo.
