Autoshite Help me flog my brother in law with a stick.

So, wifey has JUST phoned me to say that her sister's husband, Mike, is in need of a new car as his 210 K Zafira is dead.

Can I find him a decent car.

I'm thinking my 1.6 Astra would be perfect for him, but I need to present a viable alternative for me.  My budget would be up to £1500. Must have 5 proper seats at least, working cruise control would be nice but not essential. Working air con would be good too.

So suggestions of a stupid kind are welcomed.

How about one of these?

They are properly shite! If you look around you should get a good one for the money. Mine was £950 with cow skin, cold air and auto pilot! It goes faster than a shoplifter on speed and you'll struggle to get less than 45 mpg.

I borrowed my mum's one of these with the 1.6 petrol engine. I was impressed. Went well enough, economical, handled well and plenty of room.

Goober ph2?

Mines been incredibly reliable thus far. Even managed a trip to Gatwick airport with a 23yr old hammering every mile of the way.

Tell more.  I think the best advice I can give him is to buy an Astra.

Whilst he has a history of shite cars and no money, I'm gonna have to work on him with this one. PM replied to.

Mine is a little, well alot more than £100. There is a for sale thread on here somewhere, but as I am in Lanzarote at the moment, maybe someone could find it and post it up.

I have changed the title of the Thread because I attempted to get a 3rd Mk4 astra 1.6 16V into the family, as the 100 quid bargain above, and he's pissed me off by saying "I want some thing newer", and "with lower tax"

Now I could understand if he said, I want something lower miles, better history, less Vauxhall like, but no, the miles are acceptable to him,

and a 100 car with £240 tax is £400 with an MOT certificate for 1 year, or £700 for 2 years £1000 for 3 years, and a £1000 car with £150 tax is £1150 for 1 year, £1350 for 2 years and £1550 for 3 years.

So it turns out he's NOT one of us, and I'm buggered if I know what he wants.  If he wanted my Astra I'll need £1500 for it. 8)

I would let him sort his own car out. Sounds like he'll give you the runaround.

He did once give me a nice little runaround (in 1989 - an  X reg SC100 which I scrapped about 6 months later)

If he wants to spend £12000 to save £120 a year on tax he's a fool. Cut him off at once!!!

It turns out he's not actually in need of a car.

His Zafira has an MOT till april, but he took the lower engine cover off to reveal a small bit of corrosion on the front subframe, which he believes is an MOT failure, and that MOT testers will fail it if it looks to have been welded.  Talk about Panic.

If I had a quid for every numpty that ditched a perfectly good car because in their expert* opinion it wouldn't pass an MoT I'd be rich enough not to do MoT tests for a living.
