They just arrived.  It's leaking diesel, LHM and water.

Wow. I've always liked BXs, but they used to just look a bit different. They're starting to look other worldly.

On the plus side it's not leaking brake fluid.

edit: hang on ... isn't LHM brake fluid in these?

Yes

Yay! It IS a TZD! Top buyage. Apart from all the leaks. That sounds a bit grim. Oh well. Keep going until the steering starts going heavy. You're allowed to panic then. Maybe do an emergency stop while the brakes still work as that'll adjust the handbrake up a bit... (which is a handy reason to have it on the front wheels).

On the plus side, it sounds like the screenwash bottle is water tight.

LHM leak was actually just a massive diesel leak.  Water topped up.  Diesel leak solved. They have departed to Castle Cleland and we all got free pastries at the fuel station.

You guys saved the day tonight, thank you.

For those of you that don't know, I lost around £40 worth of diesel onto the road out of the top of a faulty stop solenoid between Blyth and Teeside (about 45 mins drive).

Joe was behind in my red 106, sliding all over the road on a fuel slick!

With help from Mike, Angyl, KruJoe and Chompysnake I managed to crimp the top back onto the stop solenoid with a hammer and chisel, well enough to stop the leak and get us home.

Love these old motors you can fix with a hammer and chisel ðŸ˜

If ever we needed a "what's it like being friends with an Autoshiter?" pictorial answer, Krujoe just nailed it with that post.

I fucking tried to buy that car for someone on here ages ago (maybe Barratt or Skatrrd?) But the fucker wouldn't reply to any eBay messages.

Which is irrelevant I suppose.

Top buying there. Glad all made it hope safe.

Nice purchase Will.

That's a bad fuel leak, but I think I'm more shocked that you had actual diesel in the car.

This is a very nice car for the price I paid (£330), but there are a few bits I would like for this car to tidy it up a little. I paid peanuts for a very valuable car, and would like to keep it in good condition for my own enjoyment and to help it keep the price up in case I do ever sell it. There is no sunroof to leak in, so luckily 90% of the electrical circuits seem to work perfectly, but there are a few bits and bobs needed to tidy her up.

Here is my shopping list, in order of priority. I will pay the going rate, including postage, or swap for beers or favours, as per AS tradition.

If anyone knows any in scrapyards, I would be very greatful of any details/photos.

14 inch BX Wheel trims

The car was advertised with them, but apparently they were stolen. Not really vital, but it saves me a lot of time and effort cleaning up and painting the steelies- Any standard 14 inch BX wheel trims wanted, but I'm not really a fan of the Xantia ones. If BX ones aren't availiable, I would like some funky boxy, square ones, over ones with rounded detail. It is difficult to explain what I mean, but here is some inspiration.

Steering Wheel

Mine is starting to drop to bits and has a couple chunks out of it. One preferably from a higher trim level, not a pov spec one.

N/S Headlight

Can't really see from this picture, but the front N/S headlight silvering has all come away, making driving in the dark not much fun. Could possibly re-silver it myself, but again, its best to have spares and an easy replacement.

TZD Seat

The upright of my driver's seat feels twisted towards the passenger side, it sould probably be quite bad for my back if doing a lot of mileage. I could swap it for the passenger side one for my own comfort but if anyone has one (or a pair) that match it would be better.

Here are my seats-

Dark Carpet (there is a joke in there somewhere)

As you can see from the above picture the carpet in the passenger side footwell is damaged, possibly from battery acid or some such.

Front Rubbing Strips

I'm missing the rubbing strips round the front bumper, between the valance and the bumper. they are about 3 cm tall.

Door Locking solenoid - Rear N/S

Mine is a bit lazy, havn't investigated further. May look a little like this:

BX 16 valve front valance

The headlights are really bad, so a valance where I can fit extra driving lights without ruining the look of the car would be a definate improvement.

Did these ever have electric mirrors on the drivers side? Mine has a switch to adjust one, but a mirror without electrics.

Of course if anyone has a stash of parts or trim that they want rid of I would be very thankful and pay the going rate for them.

Thanks in advance for your help!

Try fitting some Osram Nightbreakers, they worked wonders in the Xantia.  BX headlights are pretty poor even when they're in good condition. Wish I'd kept some of my old one, I know for a fact the headlights were better than yours.  C'est la vie.

Pah! BX headlights are bloody brilliant compared to the XM. That's progress for you...

I've definitely got some mk1 bx wheel trims in white, not sure if they'll fit a mk2:

Central locking motor I have got several of and I'm sure we have headlamps at work.

Looks a good buy that, well once you've got some incontinence pads fitted.

Has anyone heard from them recently?

Who?  This lot?

No, thank feck.  I'm old enough to have suffered them the first time around...

Good advice. Part of the reason my headlights seemed so poor was because I drove halfway from your house to the unit with them off! Haha :S

Mine are 14inch wheels, im sure these would fit as long as they are 14s too. Theese ones would look ace on the BX, how much do you want for them?

Brilliant, if you can have a look for me and send a PM with prices I would be very greatful!
