2002 Subaru Impreza 2.0 GX 5 door

Reet, apparently I've signed up to ten+ hours of driving on Saturday, so this thing is up for sale.  Apologies it's not really autoshite, but it might appeal to someone.

Bought summer 2014 as a 'compromise' car to replace both my MX5 and the 323F, I've done about 29k in it, mostly in the first year.  It's not that great a compromise, though I have enjoyed having it, and I'm now commuting in the PRIDE to save money.  There's also some things wrong with it which I could get fixed, but I've had it a while and fancied a change.

Summary:

Non turbo

129k

Resale silver

MOTd till July 16th

Less bad points:

Climate works well.

It's not as slow as a 1.0 Micra

Drives well, if a little underpowered.

Great in snow.

Comes with two pairs of winter tyres as well as the summer Khumos that are currently on it.

History includes:

new discs and pads all round at '99k, in July 2014

Alt + a/c belt, plugs Dec '14 (20k ago)

cambelt done in August 2012, at 82k

I've changed the oil every 6k in my ownership, and keep it topped up between as well maybe 1/2 a litre between changes?  Less than 1000 miles on this oil.

Bad points:

Glug glug glug.  I stopped using fuelly because I tend to use it for fast motorway and fast A road use, followed by sitting in traffic for a bit, which feels like the car's sweet spot but not an efficiency sweet spot..  http://www.fuelly.com/car/subaru/impreza/2002/loserone/303143

Clutch bite is high.  It's always been very high in the time I've had it, which doesn't mean it's not on it's way out.  I've had two very wet days when it's been slippy, then it seems to go back to normal for a couple of thousand miles - by which I mean I can't get it to slip no matter what I do.  It's not a 20 minute job.

Exhaust is blowing.  Really could do with a new back box / centre section, it was welded up for the last MOT.

It's got a few bumps and scrapes around it as you might expect, a stone chip in the windscreen that's been an advisory for a few years.

It looks a bit like this, only less washed  (These are old pictures - I'll clean it and take some new ones on Sunday)

Located South of Volvoland but North of most others, collect from Durham / Newcastle stations or Newcastle airport.  Could be delivered anywhere between here (County Durham) and Suffolk on Saturday for FREE.

Previous history of sales on this forum - just ask Wor kevfromwales if a character reference were required.

Autoshitist's price: £500 to turn up and take it away.  Â£750 if you want to haggle.

Heh, cheers W - this car has been used to transport tens of thousands of bees at a time.  Once, a few hundred escaped several miles from home.

They are very underrated cars, I had a brief encounter with a non estate one and loved it, I sold it to buy a turbo but got sidetracked. The estates are great motors and a lot of fun, far cheaper to run in non turbo form as well. Glwts

Hive never seen a nicer example. It's a real honey. Anyone that buys it will not bee stung. Summers coming, get it bought while it swarm.

May still contain bonus bees!

Looks like a decent wee thing for the price of a couple of nights out.

Also at 24.8 mpg you are getting THIRTY-SEVEN PERCENT better fuel economy than my turbo classic @ 18mpg on super unleaded only.

That'll be US MPG, if it had been that bad I'd have got rid long ago!

So it is. 30mpg seems pretty good to me, when these things have been discussed on here before they've been made out to be nearly as bad as a turbo on juice.

Great a+ trusted seller.

Has bees and beard.

100% positive feedback.

I have to ask... has the beard ever consisted of bees?

I have much respect for anyone who keeps bees! I like bees, even though I do feel apprehensive around them - no idea how (psychologically) you manage to deal with tens of thousands of them!

The car looks lovely - these things might be thirsty but they drive so well... and as above - it's not been chavved up.

I wish they offered the 2.5 from the Legacy in the Impreza here like they did in the US. The 2.0 is a bit weedy...

Just had this out in the rain and through the puddles - it's bloody good at eating twisty country roads quickly in bad weather, and I'll certainly miss it for that.  It also started and burbled nicely straight away after two weeks sitting unused.  The LED clock I fixed last month is broken again though.  Bastard thing.

I'd be well up for a raffle on this one. Although I am in Cornwall.

Speaking as someone in Durham who's visited Cornwall, thats a bloody long trek.

I used to have a saloon - 53 reg - same colour and spec - I loved it, only flogged cos I fancied a change and it was due a new clutch and some brake discs and pads and I fancied something a bit newer.  I was doing big miles at the time.

One of a quite a few highlights of ownership was one day when it snowed heavily, had a day of being compacted, then snowed again and then the temperature dropped like a stone ovenight.  Cue glass-like roads and me driving almost as though nothing was different.  I had to stop and help one poor woman who had an automatic Omega - it would hardly move, and when it did, it refused to go anywhere she pointed it (not knocking the Omega - it was just not the car/tyres/transmission combo for that day).

In typical on here fashion, I now wish I hadn't wasted my dough on a crusty Puma with a slipping clutch - but that's the way it goes I guess.

I'd do it if there were demand, but I can't see tickets selling well at ~£9 each.

It is fantastic fun in the snow - you have to try to avoid laughing at the OLLI chaps if you go chasing fresh snow on country lanes and keep having to drive around them.

Mate of mine came to have a look at this last night, and we spent an hour or so pricing stuff up.

Given it's in need of a clutch soon (~150 plus ~5 hours?), and exhaust (£150 second hand stainless) now, and the front 'c' subframe welding/replacing (£250 for a good one on the bay) before the MOT in July - and some twat has broken the passenger mirror since the weekend (£20)- it probably needs too much work to justify even the AS price.

CTB are offering £170, which is appealing if it means I don't have to deal with ebayers.  Anyone had any experience with them?

Or, anyone fancy this but not wanting to be rude about the price?

4-5 hours is probably about right for the clutch, less if you've done one before.

The box is a heavy old bastard and getting mine in on my own was a right war, an assistant would have been nice.

Clutch kit for the na should be sub £100 I would have thought.

If a shiter buys this and lives near Cheltenham I can lend a scissor transmission jack that makes getting a gearbox on/off whilst working on axle stands SO MUCH EASIER

I'm going to regret this aren't I?

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/282010109971

good luck, I sold mine on eBay and have never had as many twats in one week in my life. I ended up losing a packet on it. Hopefully being an estate may save you that pain.

48 hours to go, two bidders, 30 watchers, and not a single question or request to view.

Chances of winning bidder paying up (even if it ended at £200, which I wouldn't mind particularly)? Probably pretty low.

Don't tempt me...

(skulks off to eBay...)

I reckon that price, at that age, they'll assume it's fucked so not worth viewing it. Bid, collect, if it's knackered break it and if it's not, winner winner lobster Thermidor.
