I've got a towbar to take off my spare C70,& the bolts I can see look pretty rusty. What's the best stuff to spray on to make it a bit easier?

AC90 works as well as anything.  Seconded.   I borrowed a neighbour's can of some freeze spray stuff which kind of worked.  I say kind of, because I never really got round to trying the particular nut without it.

I got a huge can of cheapo penetrating oil from Screwfix. It smells revolting, but it seems bloomin' good stuff.

Wire brush the shit out of it plusgas it, heat it up ( wet rag handy !! ) whack the nut/bolt but not the thread with a hammer a couple of times , plusgas it again and undo. Works for me usually

Halfords own - shock and unlock- is very good.

Plusgas ordered, thanks for the suggestions.I didn't want to waste any more money on WD40,the only thing I use that for now is to lubricate my hair clippers  :-D

The problem with all these sprays is that is no way of really rating them . No two bolts are the same and some that look like they have been under the sea for 50 year undo fine . It's always the ones that look ok that give you the grief .

As already mentioned a good clean followed by some shock with a hammer is your best bet .

Diesel works ok for jobs like this, but it's messy.

I pour the dregs from the fuel filter into a pop bottle when I change it, then I put the bottle in my shed with the others.  Every few years I throw the most misshapen bottles away, because I only get through tiny amounts.   Doesn't stop me saving them up, strangely.

Rattle guns are also good at unseizing nuts, but they are generally not well made unless you pay more for them than I would.

I buy ECP's own brand (TripleQX) "Maintenance Spray" by the case of 12 600ml bottles, does the job (though heat is usually the ultimate winner)

PLUS GAS is the only one that's any good, take it from an ex mining engineer who has tried them all

The rest are all shite

It's all about the application, you have to let the oil do it's penetrating, so time, and a few coats I find helps - the longer you leave it to do it's magic, the better.

Then heat, if nowt else works, with mucho violence

50% Atf (dexron 3) and 50% acetone. Mix up only a small quantity (half an egg cupful) at a time unless you are undoing all the bolts on the Titanic, because the acetone will evaporate quite quickly. Was tested by some us magazine a few years back and beat all the proprietary unsiezing fluids and sprays by a good margin.

WD40 was never really a penetrating oil really, its just that it used to be the only thing you could get hold of to do the job most of the time. As a water repellant its really good, but gets misused for all kinds of shit its not very good at.

They now do a pro range that has penetrating fluid as part of it, ive got some of the spray grease and it seems ok. I'd still use plusgas though.

I'm pretty sure that plus gas is one of those products that isn't as good as it used to be . Prob some banned active ingredient .

Everything isn't as good as it used to be apart from this forum. Natch.

There is a lot to be said for some wire bush action too. I often give the head a sharp whack with a hammer too.

This ^^^^^^, plusgas is very different to wd40. There used to be another one called Rusteeze that was commercially available and very good but I haven't seen it for a while now. If I can immerse the item or pour something in then diesel/ paraffin mix at 3:1 ratio moves almost anything, also very useful for unseizing engines (although plain diesel usually works).

Had decent results from plusgas, that Halfords stuff mentioned upthread, and the product it copies which is the Loctite version. The best stuff was a giant can I bought on an offchance from a stall at the lorry show at Donno.

Look out for the jizzcans at Lidl and stockpile when they're in, sometimes W5 branded, sometimes with a plain black and yellow label, either way, very good.
