Car hunting, URGH

Its times like this when I wish I was a bajillionaire. I would buy a nice focus, spend a couple of grand on it, drive it round to Fellys, sign it over, hand over the keys with a big smile on my face and walk away.

And I would kick a couple of the doors in as I walked past it.

Petty dickhead? Me? Yep.

For anyone who is still interested - I've just been to see this...

Yep, the Avensis with the bashed-in door. Was on my way home from work and I pass it every day so thought I'd pop in and take a look at the old girl.

Body wise it is fine apart from the dent on the door - which can be sorted by gentle panel manipulation. It's not even broke the paint. Rear door has had a little paint repair with a touch up stick but looks presentable enough. Has a towbar with twin electrics and rear parking sensors.

Interior is very clean and tidy, no stains or rips on the seats etc.

Couldn't find the seller so didn't assess the engine / gearbox, but on the face of it, it looks very well cared for and is definitely not a nail or indeed has it been 'bulled up' for sale. Just an honest cheap car that needs a new home. I'd say it's worth the money and it's a Toyota FFS - hardly gonna break down is it!

Verdict : 9.7294/10 - get the door sorted and bask in the glory of WINNAH STREET.

^^ This needs to be bought. Would suit the immediate needs just fine from what has been said so far.

That looks class. Pretty much a brand new car by AS standards.

Your lights are on, but you're not home

Your headgasket is not your own

Your engine sweats, your body shakes

Another drive is what it takes

You can't sleep, you can't eat

There's no doubt, you're in deep

Your throat is tight, you can't breathe

Another headgasket is all you need

Ohh oohh

You might as well face it you addicted to rovers, you.................

YOUR GONNA HAVE TO FACE IT - YOUR HEADGASKET'S FUCKED. :-D

Just checked the MOT history of that Avensis, clearly a well looked after example. Looks bob on!

Just had a peek at the Avensis advert. Looks a good car, a bit of Autoglym to get the bumpers back to black would really tidy her up.

I'd feel confident in that on the motorway.

That Avensis I bought from Jazoli for my old man to doss about in was a fine motor.

"Help me find a car" threads are invariably a pile of wank.

I couldn't agree less! I've run the whole gamut of emotions on this one.

I've laughed 'til I coughed up a lung at the escalating list of daft suggestion (thanks for that Reg Hirst).

I've felt guilty and ashamed for adding my own hilarious* suggestion, which I now feel hasn't really helped Felly much.

I've fallen in love with some cars I'd never have thought of looking at before (Almera, Rio etc.) simply by applying a few tight constraints on my 'for sale' searches.

Now I feel sad that we might have lost Felly.

I hope I can add 'joy' to the list when he crops up this evening to say he bought the Avensis and it's a cracker.

Then we'll all apologise for saying rude things about each other and shed a happy tear into our glass of warm milk at bedtime.

I would agree with JohnF that these threads normally SUCK MASSIVE ASS but having filcked back and forth through this one a few times I'd rate it as an AS GOLD.

I hope Felly gets himself sorted though and comes back to give us all some abuse etc.

Yep. It's shit being broke, and rather baffling that e.g. bub2006 ended up with a whip-round & massive support network when he was skint whereas Felly doesn't seem to have tugged on the AS heartstrings.

But the piss-taking seems largely to have been meant in good spirit (certainly by me, anyway), so hopefully no offence will be taken.

On that note...

I think it was because bub had a massive amount of bad luck recently, shit breaking, stuff gone wrong and then a OMGNEARLYDEAD crash. Not only that, he didn't get any money for the van as it was TPFT - even if he did it would have been peanuts.

FM has had some bad luck, but at least he has a reasonable lump sum of cash to get something working and running. I think the strongly worded responses to suggestions (I.e. "get in your thick skull") made any good will rather lost.

That's my take on it.

I'd happily ferry myself around in that avensis above. I genuinely think that one looks a nice style and fairly modern still - I'm a picky bugger too. Looks to be a great buy by the looks and sounds of it. Dents in bodywork mean you have to worry less about it in a car park! Plus after 14years of different owners and going places, any daily car is bound to pick up marks tbh. Shame he dismissed it too quickly :(

^ That. I think Bub's was a totally different case when his cataclysmically awful luck ended with him and Chompy sailing through the air in 2/3rds of an Escort van. Being skint is utterly shit but losing several cars and nearly dying is a bit worse. Besides which, Bub tried his best to take it on the chin from what I saw.

Well put.

I think someone calling him a cunt probably didn't help. Some pretty surprising responses to this thread IMHO but perhaps things have occurred in the past that I don't know about.

Mayhap the fellow has found a grand enough stick to support a moon.

oi - that was my pic

I've offered to help telly out as I've been here. The money raised was part raffle of the fiesta which I've offered to felly and the other was split between me and chompy to try bring some normality back, chompys car collection,Volvo and mot etc. I'm eternally grateful to the people here hence why I've offered assistance when and how I can to people. Like offering telly the fiesta, collecting wheels to help egg,Citroen parts for bin hoker rtf. I'll help anyone if I can

No explanations etc. necessary, mate... it was great to see so many AS contributors pulling together to help out a fellow inmate.

Knowing Felly in a real world level and feeling his waft before I'd honestly say if you gave him a car with a full tank of fuel, a naked Suzi Perry as a car pool passenger and a ashtray that magically fired out £50 notes every time you opened it that it still wouldn't be good enough for him and he'll throw it back in your face.

There's only so much sympathy, help and advice you can give someone before you realise that they actually enjoy being in that situation and the attention they are getting from it.

No doubt he'll post again to slag me off and throw his rattle at me but I can't give a fuck anymore, there's a bigger picture that I'm not going into on a public forum.

Can I have the above car please, also the passenger and magic ashtray. Please.

No,Suzie Perry is mine. I dropped her off somewhere can't remember where though. Hopefully trigger will point her north

A 53 plate festa came up on my things for sale locally page,10 months ticket, full history, very clean,£550. It was at that point I realised what a complete waste of time it would be bothering to link it on here,no doubt it would be the wrong shade of silver.cars are absolutely everywhere, cheap and easy to get.ferry tragic would be better saving for a personality transplant.

Felly threatened to off himself last time he spat the dummy on here, an ideal way to shut down any argument but not endear yourself to strangers.

The lad has had a sense of humour bypass and is very thin skinned, I wish him luck.
