Car now sold - but please scroll down to the end if you can offer the new owner any mechanical knowledge/sympathy.

Those Fezzes are good, my aunt has an 03 plate Zetec on 41k(!) that she's had since about 2006 and it really hasn't wanted for anything, all I can think of is the door pillar trim falling off once.

They're a bit cramped in the back, 3 doors especially, but they're simple, nice looking, capable things. Great budget motoring.

Spec/colour/etc?

Reading up... Plenty of fucking horror stories about unnecessary fly by wire throttle sensors etc. Plenty of people have Spunked on ECU and Sensors to still have the same issue. At the moment the car is a runner, but I'd not want to trust it.

Yep, my grandmother had one brand new and nobody could get the the bottom of some electrical issue it had.

They all do that, sir.  I replaced both of the ones on this car to hopefully stop the same thing happening again.

It's an LX in Red.

Best case is it's just a new accelerator pedal.  BIL says it's running perfectly at the moment, and has done for 6 weeks.

This might be a RAFFLE if anyone has the appetite?

my GF has one of these fiestas, 54-plate 1.4 pez, its a nice drive to be fair, easy and quite zippy, a bit gutless on the A-roads though. The worst thing about it is she went into a Ford dealership and paid £4000 for it 2 years ago

Delivery sounds ideal cos I've got a lot on at the moment, obviously I'd cross your palm with silver for train/pez etc etc

Is it the newer shaped one? I'd be interested in joining the queue for it.

No pics of actual car ATM I'm afraid.

It's the spit of this. Same colour, spec, wheel trims etc.  As soon as I have it I'll get pics up.

It's perfect Autoshite really.  Pov spec and an opportunity to get into a car cheap and deal with the issues as/when.

Just to reiterate, this was my wife's from new. I was with her when we picked it up Jan 2004.  She had it for 6 years, then when we got married I bought her a Focus (what a top fucking husband I am) and ran the Fez myself for 2 years doing 100 miles a day. Then got myself a Rover 75 in 2012 (YES) and sold it to wife's sister who's run it daily ever since.

It does have niggles.  As I say, this EAC thing is well documented.  I just CBA, and with 4 cars I'm full really.  Also sister in law reports a drone, probably just a wheel bearing.  Also the seats need a fix/fudge to be able to get into the back, both cables are snapped.

Otherwise, 11 months MOT (no advisories) and plenty of history. Dunlops all round.

Feeling on price?

Those Fezzers are good little cars, far better than the rusty misery that went before.

Fixed.....must be worth £650?

As is, three and a laugh?*

Because they don't rot like a bastard and still look sort of 2009 ish, they're in demand.

*That's not an offer btw.

I've had one of these for the last 10 years and it's only done this 3 times.

They're really good cars so if you know what the problem is just change it and then decide from there

What engine?

1.25 I guess? (because they nearly all are)

Correcto.

Is it a Yamaha engine? Someone told me that in a drunken stupor. I did that polite laugh that you do when you're not quite sure what someone said but you've already said pardon once and you don't want to offend them.

If that's a 53 plate 1.4/1.6 zetec then check the cambelt + tensioner has been done. Spec is 100,00 mile or 10 years and the access to change them is challenging so is expensive so is often neglected. Photos available of a 55k 52 plate 1.6 shredded belt and internal bits.

That is correct. Mazda worked on it too iirc. On the older mk4 fiestas they used to be a revvy little thing that felt much faster than they probably were. Well to a 18 year old they felt fast! I think they kinda lost some of that zippyness with the added weight of the 5th gen.

you cant kill them had 1.3 52 plate and even with impending hgf it wouldnt die and was still being used

they dont rust either three finger width of surface rust on an arch not bad for twelve yo car

UPDATE.

Car hopefully with me tomorrow or Sunday. Sister in law spoke to the regular garage who said they'd start with the throttle position sensor as they've done a couple like this already this year.

We're now certain that we don't want to keep the car. But we're also certain that it must live on.

Cobblers was first in, but I'm not sure on how I'd actually get the car up there with my work so busy.

Once the car is here I'll get pics up and we'll either figure a price between us or have a raffle.

Update. This has arrived.

As previously noted, there are issues. EML is on. BIL said he had it read but there was no code. I will call the garage to confirm this tomorrow.

It drones like mad at anything above 20mph. I would say it's a rough bearing on front passenger side. It is fucking loud though... More of a roar than a squeal. I'm worried that it might be something more, but it literally just passed its MOT 809 miles ago with no advisories.

Otherwise it's in nice nick. No rust. Starts first time. Four decent Dunlop's all round.

And the details.

Reg is AG53 BWL.

With the issues in mind, it's either a raffle at about a fiver or a straight £300.

Cobblers has first shout if he still wants it...but I'm worried about him putting his nan in it 'as is'

Thoughts ?

Yamaha were involved in the development of the 1.25 and 1.7 engines I believe.

Made from two Leslie speaker motors from their home organ range. PHACKT!
