Retro Japanese magazine

Sorry for yet another blatant plug, but the first issue of Retro Japanese magazine is now available to purchase.

Don't let the cover fool you. I've packed it full of shite. There's even a Toyota Tercel 4WD, and at least two Autoshiters. Also contains Accord Aerodeck content - not Skattrd!

It should be in the shops - especially WH Smith and Asda - from 11 March, but to be honest, buying direct is the easiest option.

As the owner of a retro Japanese mx5 I will seek this out!!

I'm sure it'll be a success and I'll have something in the next issue  ;)

Hope so! It's a one-off to test the market at the moment (like German Classics was), but my gut feel is that RJ has a wider appeal. There's a lot of love for J-tin, and I've deliberately steered away from Banzai-like modded stuff.

Other shite content includes British-built J-tin, so yes, a magazine feature on Nissan Bluebirds and Toyota Carina Es. I've loved putting this one together.

It'll be interesting to see. Kind of relevant to my interests.....

Wonder if the LS400 vs XJR article is the same as in this Kelsey title? May also have been used in another magazine?

I'll give it a go, I like J-tin too ( 3 Micras and an Almera, OK, not classic or JDM, but nice in their way)

Good spot mr SpottedLaurel. Some content has been reworked. It's the only way to make the sums work. Thanks for letting me raid your FlickR feed by the way. I mean, who else was going to have a photo of a UK-based Nissan Ebro?!

Yes, that means there's Nissan Ebro van content. Told you it was shite.

Which AS people are in it then? Come on, we're amongst friends, sort of.

Well, you're in it. Did you forget? ;) Cleon-Fronte (if I've spelt that right) gets his Sirion in, Ratdat the Bluebird and Dugong is in the roadtrip bit with his Piazza.

This business model is not very effective. Probably why there's no Autoshite magazine!

When's the Prince Gloria vs Hino Contessa vs Isuzu Bellett group test appearing?

I won't.  How many rehashed "buyers guides" for the Mx5 can magazines come up with.

a) Check for rust. Then check again. If there's no rust check for bodging of rust with chicken wire and plastic padding

B) Don't buy one off a knob

c) avoid modified ones.

d) Everything is obtainable and cheap.

e) Eunos one's are usually higher spec'd

f) Anything else you want to know try www.mx5nutz.com or www.mx5wankersclub.co.uk

4 lines is all they need.

Ordered.

I'm glad you managed without my help* DW :) (see, I told you I'm useless).

During editorial discussions, has any thought been given to future developments, should it all take off (as I'm sure it will)? Could future editions include a subsection for vehicles from other far eastern countries?

A new magazine is a big effort just to promote the sale of an old Prelude!

I will not even bother padding the shops for this and will skip straight to ordering online due to poor stockage up here in no mans land,

If it takes of your welcome to my wee colt for a day or two.

It is actually quite a well done and balanced article, IIRC.

With a Cube as my J tin, and a mad magazine buying and collecting habit, I'm in, as they say.

Must be harder than ever as a motoring jurno now, I freelanced for a bit in the late 80's...Martin Buckley I was not.

Now, now. Positivity needed here.

It's the first one, so of course the easiest buyers guide to do is an MX5. Gotta get a mag off the ground before it can be a buyers guide to the Honda Quintet or something more time consuming to research.

Best of luck to this mag I say!

I'll be buying a copy. I don't particularly like German cars, but 'German Classics' was a good read.

When's French Classics* coming out?

*nineties Citroens, preferably.

I'm waiting for Portugese classics featuring Umm, er and ....

I'll get my coat.

I'm disappointed; not the sort of Japanese magazine I was hoping for.

Retro-Japanese?

So can only see one retro-car on the picture, the Civic Mk1. All the others are far too young to be considered as retro in my eyes.

Here in the UK, retro tends to mean 1980s to 2000s. Prior to that, most stuff just gets the generic Classic tag - which the Civic Gen 1 would fall into.

Actually, the super guide includes tips on modifying your MX-5 - what works and what doesn't. I agree with point A to be fair!
