Hi all,

due to impending purchase of a Kia Sorento, i need to lose a member of the fleet :-(  i would rather lose the passat, but it seems that I am in need of the estate car more than the hatchback due to dogging activities (not that kind!  i have an animal of the canine variety)

for those that remember, this is the Ex GarethJ car, and it has served me well over the last 16 months.

Headline stuff - 1.9 TDi SXi, premium* cloth interior. 4 firestone tyres approx 18 months old (will check tread depth later on and update), but theyre good for a few miles yet. mileage is almost 187k, and going up daily by 50 miles or so. MOT due october, with no advisories on the last one (reg is W203UJH if you want to check the MOT history thingy). taxed to get you home.

i have been getting about 45mpg hooning around the back roads on my way to work.  pretty sure that would be higher if i just cruised down the A1, but then the drive is pretty dull as it is, i need some excitement in my life lol

good points - longish MOT, starts first turn of the key, has never let me down in the last 16 months. new windscreen a few months ago, serviced by me twice since i bought it from GarethJ - oil filter, air filter, fuel filter, oil. has had new temperature sender so now the gauge works as intended.  doesn't use any oil or water

bad points - clock on the dash doesnt like the cold.  once the display warms up it works though.  can take a few turns to start when warm, always starts though, so hasn't bothered me.  some forums say the battery may be getting tired?? but it starts perfectly from cold, so who knows. paint on the bonnet is a little dull, but not noticeably so.  wipers work, but lift off the screen at anything over 70.  different blades may sort that though.

i don't think it runs on veg, but then ive never tried as i wouldn't know where to start.

here is the original ad when i bought it:

Are you thinking of becoming a private eye, and need anonymous transport?

Perhaps you played Dungeons & Dragons as a spotty youth and always wanted the cloak of invisibility?

Maybe you covet the glamour of becoming a minicab driver?

If the answer is yes then don't wait another minute, pick up the phone and call now to own this wonderful Skoda Octavia.  I've owned this for just over a year, bought it with 150,000 miles and it now has 170,000.  During that time it's never broken down, never failed to start and saved me shedloads of money with its 60+mpg.  Here's a picture of it last week.

IMAG1106_zpsbmwgvagc.jpg

It's a 1.9 Tdi with 110bhp.  Being the SLX model (that's like the modern version of HLS) it's loaded with features:

Alloy wheels, with 4 new Firestone tyres a few months ago

Climate control

4 wheel disc brakes (new discs on the rear)

4 electric windows

Height adjustable front seats

Central locking

Electrically adjustable heated door mirrors

Adjustable steering wheel for reach and rake

And they all still work.  It's got a pretty full service history, in my ownership it's had oil & filter changes, the cambelt and water pump done at 160,000, rear discs a few thousand miles ago and that's about it.

So does everything work perfectly?  No, the temperature gauge read lower and lower over the course of a week, and now doesn't move at all.  But the heater still works so it's a sender or gauge problem.  The digital clock / trip computer takes a few minutes for all the digits to light up, so for a while in the morning the time is 7:_¬  The wipers are a bit squeaky too, I dribbled some PlusGas down the spindles last winter which helped, maybe it's thirsty again.

This morning it passed its MoT.  The mileage is high but it hides it better than anything except a Volvo 740; no rattles or bits threatening to fall off.  If you need dull, reliable, incredibly economical transport with a massive boot and OMGVAGTORQ performance but without the Audi image, step this way.

not much has changed since then bar the mileage.

I need to move this piece of automotive granite on, so I have priced it at £350

feel free to PM me or five me a call on oh7nine20 7542five1

car is located in Shefford, Beds. but i work in Hatfield Herts, so alternative meet ups could be arranged.  as could pick ups from stations etc (arlesey is the nearest)

cheers for reading,

Is it green?

My Mrs is a total nut bar regarding green cars, this would tick all the boxes I need for a daily driver and miles muncher, but I bet it's green, meaning domestic bliss would be totally ruined if I were to buy it.

Veg capability should be good, plus 45mpg, I reckon you may have a duff thermostat. The only time I got my Boring below 50mpg was with a knackered thermostat.

could be i guess, but it does get up to temp relatively quickly..... not too sure tbh.

almost forgot, it has the advantage of added Psittacoidea (or Parrot for the uneducated  )  in the form of a bluetooth parrot handsfree thing with display.

it's an older model, but it works fine.

oh, and it has a towing attachment, and i have a spare rear plate for affixment to a towed appendage if required.

nope, not green :-)

as for mile muncher, i use it 5 days a week to do 25 miles each way to work.  I put my hand on my heart when i say it has performed faultlessly, almost boringly so. not one drama apart from a headlight bulb that blew, so i replaced it.  see - boring. lol

to be honest, i don't really want to sell it, as the passat is just going to be a world of pain for me, i know it.  but then maybe when the passat blows up later i'll have an excuse to buy something more nuts :-D

I daily drove one till someone stuck a hole in the back of it at a junction.

I quite liked it, in a no drama do a job in relative comfort kinda way :)

I dunno re the age- hard to get a difinative answer tbh..

only way would be to try reading it!

I'd say 50/50 on the remapping via ODB ... but it sounds like a bargain veg muncher.

I don't want it, but until I had to get a too many children carrier I had a Tdi Octavia and can't recommend them enough.

Recommended seller A star star star star star.

It didn't put a foot wrong on my 75-miles a day commute, was lively enough with the 110bhp and 60mpg was just bonkers, it's probably cheaper than walking.  The boot space is also deceptively massive, with the rear seats folded down I got a fridge freezer in the boot!

I bought it from a Skoda garage close to where I used to live in Kimbolton, he said the local minicab firm takes the cars to 300,000 miles and then trades them in for another.

eleventy million Latvian mini cabbers can't be wrong................probably one of the finest do anything cars ever built.

sorry to all interested parties, but as of about 5 mins ago i got an offer i could refuse, but didn't, and the skodashite is selled, subject to a couple of minor details and a boring and mundane collekshun fred.

more info to follow, plus a possibility of my first ever woollarding experience.

cheers,
