Trolley jacks - What's the best?

I've got that in red - had it for around 10 years and feels pretty well made. Would be nice to have a handle which swivelled and lowered the jack though, but at this price range I'd rather it went towards construction rather than frills.

A few years ago it developed an internal leak so would sag after a while. Not a great lifespan but I was able to buy a complete overhaul kit for under £2. I was actually more pleased it was rebuildable in this day and age, than I was disappointed at the failure in the first place!

No obvious damage to the sealing surfaces, so assume it was a defect in the rubber somewhere.

I have the big red clarke one too - only lasted a year before it started gradually sagging - everyone I know with one of these has had the same problem.. other than that I think it's pretty solid but the twisty release mech needs lubricating so it's nice and progressive...

A mate bought a couple of the JCB jacks when they were on offer at B&Q a few years back - one has been OK but the seals have gone on the other one so it drops after about an hour.

I keep thinking about upgrading my trolley jack - mine was £9.99 from Aldi about 10 years ago, but it still works perfectly well, and will hold the whole front end of the 164 (which is one heavy bastard) a foot off the ground for two weeks without dropping at all.  Only thing it won't do is go high enough to lift vans etc.

Go with the Arcan one at costco.. think they were 83 quid when i was in there last week.. well up to the job.

I bought a cheapo one just two weeks ago, only to find it it just reaches the RR axle and  I can just about change a tyre. Fine for the other cars though.

Again.. costco Arcan is ace, You'll get a hernia moving it but it is indeed bloody ace

Bright yellow Halfords one bought years ago and has been brilliant. No complaints whatsoever.

I bought the sealey 3000cxd listed above about a year ago. Cost £100 I think but came with a pair of axle stands. Decent enough and come in handy. Having used halfords jacks for years the sealey is a huge improvement and feels safer and lifts a lot higher.

I also looked at the SGS one as I have a few of they're tools. Very good quality kit but was out of stock at time hence buying the sealey.

As said already save up a few more quid and buy a decent one.

I have the Clarke referred to above, not sure if its still being made but its done me for 15 years or so, used at least once a month.   Lifted a 4WD Bedford CF quite happily.   Also (ab)used to shift a Mini bodyshell around but apart from that occasion I strictly only use it to lift the car, the axle stands go under straight away....

Not had any leakage issues and the drop is still nice and progressive.  I do look after it, never leave it out in the rain and its always stored horizontally.   My only complaint is it is bloody heavy (ask big toe how he knows that) and I use an el cheapo for drum brake adjustment and the like (only with stands, tho..!)

I've got the entry level Draper jack like in the picture and while it's never let me down in 10 years, I would never get another one. It's awkward and unstable because it's quite small.

I ordered one of these earlier, coming Monday and hopefully being used Tuesday!

I bought the low profile 2 tonne one off them recently and it looks like a quality bit of kit.

I am eager to see your opinions when you use the sgs jacks as since clicking the link I have been contemplating getting one to use along side the jacks I have,

I had a look at this one on the SGS website recently, and to me, Halfords' 2t low-profile job looks suspiciously similar (but doesn't come with case or pad) ...

My jack arrived today, excellent delivery service from DPD and the jack feels really good quality and weighs a ton!

I haven't used it yet but it looks and feels well up to the job.

Does look good that. Slightly less heavy duty than the TJ3 I have which seems to be perpetually out of stock now but definitely looks up to the job

Got mine and as said above it is quite heavy!

The lift is impressive compared to any 'normal' jack I have used before.

To demonstrate the height this is one of my ramps and it slides completely under the wheel and out the other side.

Very impressed with it and would certainly recommend.

That is stupidly good value.....................

Great find - slightly annoyed that I don't need one!!!

Ooooooh, that looks well handy. I've never been able to successfully drive the Doloshite on to ramps without it shoving them along the ground or the rear wheels attempting to dig to China. The concept of simply jacking the thing on to them is rather alluring...

I had that exact set from halfords for my 18th from my mum, cost her £50 I think too.

The jack is still fine, in the back of the car now actually. Doesn't look as shiny as that anymore though...

Axle stands, but I don't have the holding pins anymore, I just use them at the lowest setting

NEVER used the crawler, infact I'm not even sure where it is. Mums gravel driveway was never ace for it...

Never used the wheel chocks, I just find a bit of an old brick or something

I got bought this too one year (well, a slightly lesser, older version) http://www.halfords.com/workshop-tools/tools/tool-kits/phaze-275-piece-tool-chest. Some of the sockets have broken, as did the small ratchet, and TBH it sits at the bottom of the porch, only accessible after 15 mins of moving shit out the way. My small set plus random big box of random tools do all I've ever needed to. One day I'll have the space to have it out and useable, but I'll need to go shopping to buy the few bits that broke, plus lots of the torx bits rounded out over the years, so theres not many of those left now

My elderly early 1980's one sicked its guts up when presented with the Picasso and whilst it had a very nice home fabricated jacking pad it had a measaly one tonne rating and fixed wheels front and back....

so rather than fit new seals I did the honorable thing and lobbed it on eBay where someone paid me a fiver for it and spent £27 on a new SGS 2 tonner.

Could have got it a few pence cheaper on their website!
