Has your shite ever been recalled?

Possible brake failure on the Transit. It would have to have some brakes to start with before they could fail, I've driven 80s Mazdas with better brakes.

If you'd said Sprinter/Vito I would concur (buckled front wheels to prove it!) but I've never driven a Transit without mega-brakes?

BUMP!

Nissan GB has sent me a recall letter about the Takata passenger airbag. This is the 2nd recall I've had about airbags - the first had to have something done to the driver's side one several years ago. Takata's share price performance in the Japanese stock market must have taken a right pasting in recent years. I think they supply airbags for Mazda and Toyota also.

In the event of an accident the passenger airbag may inflate with such extreme force that parts of the airbag unit could shatter firing metal fragments into the cabin.

Better get it booked in then. At least it'll give me a chance to look at the shiny new cars after handing the key over at reception.

Yep mine is subject to a recall. It literally just got issued. Something to do with valve springs. Engine out job apparently. I'm sure they'll enjoy that.

I read about it on the GT86 owner's forum. Rang my local Toyota dealer, they asked in a semi suspicious manner how I knew about it.

The Zafira gets a new recall every bloody week, it's proper vin number roulette!

Volvo’s of old are so good recalls are unnecessary.

Fords however...

I seem to remember they’d rather just let people die horribly in an explosion of flames and pay the odd lawsuit than waste time and money sending out recalls and fixing stuff!

My old E36 is 21 years old but it’s coming up that it needs a recall and needs to go back to Bmw but not sure what it’s for.post-9282-0-01558700-1542237063_thumb.png

Would anyone bother with the recall on that age vehicle.

The strange thing is my Z3 is the same age and mechanically the same car but it doesn’t need the recall apparently and my other E36 is also ok.

Nissan Almera. 1 recall ever and only affects models built later than mine - win.

Mine was recalled twice for the passenger airbag.

No recalls officially listed for the Subaru - although someone told me that Foresters had been recalled at one point over brake line issues. Maybe not my year/model, though. When I checked, I did receive a red message screaming that my car was out of MOT since September 2017 and I was now facing a £1000 fine. According to the history file, the car left Wales in late 2016.

Since the system doesn't recognise the Yaris numberplate at all (there was a recall around 2014 though, for maybe an airbag issue?) I'm guessing their database is based on GB MOTs and excludes vehicles registered/currently MOT'd in NI.

You will find all Subarus have the recall for the passenger airbag, just some haven't been notified yet.

My Impreza's had two recalls in the last 3 months for brake lines and passenger airbag upgrade. Can't say I was particularly impressed with the work done on the second one - they managed to scratch the glovebox lid and refit it badly. However, they did wash the car.

Hmmm... am I missing out on something, then?

Haven't got around to issuing the recall on ones of this type, mebbe?

It doesn't necessarily show on the DVLA site. Subaru contacted me directly both times.

Yes, it does appear that DVLA rely on being informed by the manufacturer of any recalls, which they may not necessarily choose to do. Only I'd guess that the manufacturer would need to go through DVLA in order to obtain the details of registered keepers for vehicles affected, so they can write out to them?

(I'm not panicking or anything at this end about OMG RECALL, just curious about the process.)

Subaru are prioritising likely issue cars first- the airbag casing degrades due to age, heat and humidity.

It's literally light lighting a firework with a soggy card casing, which blows out sideways and is made out of sharp bits of metal.

Okay, now I'm panicking...

I got a recall notice from Mazda about my Lantis about 6 months ago.

Something about the ignition electrics setting fire to the car.

It is a 25 year old JDM car that arrived  here second hand and nearly ten years old,

Why are they worrying after 25 years without a problem, I didn't bother !

My 08 Avensis has been recalled for a dodgy air bag too.

And it also needs to have the lower section of the steering column replaced something about an incorrect hardening process on its splines which may lead to loss of steering.

Still if i loose control and crash at least the air bags will save me.

Oh hang on....

Another Nissan airbag here, a safety device that fires metal fragments at you in the event of a crash, nice

Absolutely, they'll probably wash it for you which will save you 6 quid :D

That was over 50 years ago, they are nowhere near as concerned about people's safety now.

Yep, that's the letter I got...with surnames and reg plates substituted of course.

You laugh, but around 5,000 people around the world are bored to death annually in a Ford. I had a few close calls in my MkVI Escort.

Will nobody think of the children?

Did BMW use those dodgy airbags too?

Iirc there are three airbag manufacturers, and it affects everything one of them made.

Many of the replacements are also affected, but are new so the clock has been reset; they're gambling most cars will have been scrapped before needing a replacement replacing.

Our E46 had two recalls for airbags. I spent a nice hour or two eating their biscuits and drinking their drinks. Very pleasant.

VAG emission recalls? These two old smokers must surely be due in for a re-programming of their chips...

That must have been a faintly awkward email from the airbag manufacturer to the car-makers...

"Y'know those things we sold you to install in your vehicles as a safety device? Get this, apparently they morph into a claymore over time, perforating your customers' faces with red hot shrapnel in the event of even a tap. I know, right? Soz, guys!"
