Mate you need to listen to the very good advice being dished out here, there's a danger patience might run out .

You wankered your vectra into/onto a wall and people came to your assistance, you bought a shit saxo and the gearbox shat itself and junkman took himself a big step towards his knighthood on a shit night to try and help fix it get it home, you don't appear to have invested in a recovery policy and it sounds like your not greatly overburdened with cash at the minute.....now please take this next bit as sage advice and not as an insult...if you buy that van you're a fucking idiot and I might well come down and twat you around the head with a spare mondeo driveshaft .

Fix the vectra..look after it...drive it.....RAC cover it and the world will be a peaceful harmonious place, I'll happily come and help fix the bastard if need be

Love,

Put the sump on the vectra and get the tyres changed - that is a mornings work at the worst and probably 50 quid or so.

Buy ANOTHER vehicle? are you actually mental? I mean no offence, but thats just stupidity now.

Van purchase costs, plus insurance, plus tax, plus anything the van might will need is a lot of money for......well, for what? to tide you over a "couple of days" to get the Vectra finished? you would get better value renting a Fiesta from Europcar if you need transport for a couple of days.

Ok, you would have a van at the end of it, but IMO you need to get your shit sorted out properly before doing anything else - especially taking on a fucking Escort van which is pretty much a guaranteed money pit unless you are spending out a lot of money for a well sorted one and frankly if you have that much money spare, you need to seriously re-evaluate your priorities.

I thought they were expensive for private use?

My Nissan Vanette was the cheapest vehicle I've owned to insure and the Caddy is slightly cheaper to insure than the equivalent car.

Not to encourage bub to buy a van right now, because he shouldn't.

I've tried! Any other good car selling platforms too other than gumtree? I cant think of any!

Local Facebook pages are a good starting point, beware of retard/chav content !

Posted

Yep - if the box is definately kippered, its not going to be easy selling on gumtree and the likes. I would offer it up here as an auction to the highest bidder over scrap value in case anyone needs an engine or rear beam.

Three cars in as many months?

Fix the vectra, seriously!

bub, scrap that Saxo, seriously, just call a scrappy in the morning and cut your losses, and do not buy any more vehicles, sort the Vectra out, there are bloody hundreds in breakers, and the likes of Motorhog will even ship parts to you within a couple of days.

Posted

Scrap it - I'll match whatever the scrappy gives you if you promise to get the Vectra fixed and stay away from the "bid" button on anything else

Just a thought. If you change vehicle. Then insurance company may refuse you insurance. This can lead to problems with new insurance when they ask the million questions, one of which is " have you ever had insurance refused it declined ?" This then allows them to dream up some stupid figure for you. Get your vectra fixed and take cheapest breakdown cover. In march this year I had three cars . An i800 family bus , a Mazda 323 for pootling around and a Mazda tribute 4x4 for caravan and winter snow chaos. I suffered a stroke and has a result my memory likes to forget things so I was sick of leaving things in the wrong car. So I got rid of them all and bought a seven seater 4x4. Now one car does everything I need and I don't forget , get confused 😖 with where i have left my sunglasses etc. If you want something for the tip and doing boot sales etc. Get a towbar and trailer or roofbox for vectra. Failing that fix vectra then keep an eye out for an estate car that suits and put roofbox on that. I have got a rover 75 now but its a hobby and gives me something to do . I don't use it for essential duties just for fun. Not preaching to you but sometimes you need to go back and get things simple and easy before you get the energy to move forward again.

That's amazing offer.

So much kindness on here it is untrue.

Echo everything said above.

You could always point out to your insurance company that the Vectra is the same one that was on your policy a while ago. That might satisfy them that you're not a trader.

Right folks I've taken all on board what has been said here. This is my thoughts and why I also considered a van. I have the funds to repair the Vectra which will be going ahead this week regardless so that's the car situation sorted. My bad run of luck was doing the job I was doing at weekends late at night. I've decided to knock it on the head now as I as much as everyone else Is getting pissed off with things going wrong while I was doing it and losing out all the time. Me and a friend used to do carboots and markets along with tip runs etc. The plan was to get the van and go back to that. Checked insurance and its half the saxo was and my friend offered to go half's on it so we can get back to doing car boots etc.

Posted

That's the plan,go half's on van, fuel, insurance etc. Least then I've no chance of coming unstuck doing deliveries on a weekend

Posted

Until that vectra is fixed - and remember, its been bounced along a fucking wall.....it might still need other repairs that only come to light once its driveable - you need another vehicle project like a goldfish needs a pair of wellies.

Prioritise, man.

There is no shortage of vans for sale. Buy one in a months time.

That's my concern,if there is something unseen with the hvectra I'm going to be stuck.

Posted

On the fifth day of Xmas Daryl lost 5 gears,4 scrapped crap motors,3 nighttime crashes,2 trips to halfords and a wanted ad on gumtree

Posted

So get on with it and find out.

If you buy this van, thats probably going to put the vectra back a week or two, and its ANOTHER car lying outside your house to aggrivate your neighbour who might well decide to fling a brick through the windscreen; Then what?

Prioritise.

Number 1 - fix the vectra. If it turns out to need more work, either fix that too or look at the van option at that point.

I know not having transport can be an inconvenience but I really do think you need to heed the advice given and focus on getting the Vectra back on the road instead of buying another a car.

A few years ago we were in a really good position financially - I then lost my job and put my projects on the back burner and focussed on just running and using my 528i - a known quantity.

Fast forward a month or two and a new job prospect further away determined (in my mind) that the 528i was a ridiculous proposition. I sold it for £700 and foolishly paid £600 for a Pug 106 1.1 - leaving money to fuel it and tax it for 6 months. I was hoping for OMGMPG.

Anyway long story short, I depended on this car to get everywhere including work, dad duties and also visiting my terminally ill mum. That was until the fucking thing grenaded a conrod through the block on the way home one night and I scrapped the fucker because I couldn't be arsed.

Against my better judgement I bought a Laguna II for £450 which lasted 2 weeks before total electrical meltdown. Over the bridge too.

I hit public transport with occasional borrowing of my dads car when desperately needed and focussed my free cash getting the parts needed to put my Omega V6 back on the road and then MOTing it.it was the best and right thing to do.

Once fixed the Vectra with seats folded should be fine for car boots, shouldn't it? My advice FWIW is sort that, and spend the few coins you've got on a recovery policy rather than halves on another vehicle. If your mate wants a van let him buy it, surely he can see you're on your uppers so shouldn't be encouraged to take on more vehicles and potential headaches.

As others have said, keep it simple! Multiple motors can be a ballache at the best of times, even worse when you're skint.

Daz, please, please, please do not buy an Escort van. Anything in the cheap end of the market will likely be as rusty as the Titanic underneath and most probably bodged through an MOT.

Get the Vectra fixed, lob on a tow bar and I have a small aluminium trailer here in tidy nick that you can have for the price of fuck all.

This will satisfy your car boot itch along with folded down Vectra seats.

Please do not buy anything else until you get the Vectra fixed. I'd lob you some more cash but I'm now skint.

I'm not paying for it after all. Mate decided he likes it,owner had it for few years now and selling as he bought a transit. Had a couple of patches on sills but that's it. Towbar and roof rack on it on a 51 plate.

And just to reiterate the vec will hopefully be up this week and running now

This is very true. I'm a fair way off skint but trying to run multiple cars is still a pain in the arse when there's other shit going on in your life.

If you must insist on going halves on a van, let your mate take care of buying it and looking after it until the Vectra's all done!

Posted

The van been bought by my mate. The plan is now to get Vectra done. Mate sorted tax an insurance on van and said I can use it if needs be. Fetching bumper for vec, wheels etc

Being skint is the reason I only have one car, and the flange only has one car. Its what keeps me away from roffles. Yes, winning a car for a tenner is awesome, but not if I cant afford to run it...

Dont forget the entry at boot sales for vans is higher. We take the Meriva when we go as its our biggest car, the xm was better thougg as it had a more useable load area. Maybe you should get an xm estate?

Ffs dont do that, youll commit suicide quicker than it will break...

Conentrate on the vectra. Euro car parts do free delivery and always have a sale on. Tweet5 duscount code for another 5% off, unless anyone knows of a better bode. Ive got 5l of coolant here you could have but it will cost me more to post than you'd buy and get it posted from ecp for...

Posted

That's true about the raffles, I've not entered a couple of them purely because I couldn't afford it if I won!
