Fitted the shiny exhaust today to the C1, took 30 minutes start to finish.

The old one did this

I wonder why

PXL_20220720_140638794.thumb.jpg.5eb52e7b6947962ad2a2ff087705929f.jpg

That might explain it.

SLK went back to @Jim Bell as it was his and I was just minding it. To aid with logistics after it threw a spanner in the works, idler pulley off, the 206 came from @davehedgehog31 but only stayed briefly before @gm won the roffle.

That leaves me with the Minor, still waiting for me to pick up where I left off ages ago, the Civic which does excellent daily service for my better half and the C1 which does excellent daily service for myself.

having less cars means I should be able to continue with fixing stuff, I can't see that happening!

Wait, so you have that huuuuuge unit with just a Morris Minor in it?

That just isn't right, man. The poor thing will be lonely!

There have been a few changes recently.

This became mine after some money changed hands.

PXL_20220621_084756005.thumb.jpg.2f66df560ab0455ea7a6d310d29b93d5.jpg

Then next in was this

PXL_20220924_163246328.thumb.jpg.cd9c00252a66e473733fa2b6899857e8.jpg

Which was to replace this that left today

Think that about covers it all.

Title should be changed to: Tickman's superior motoring choices

You need a luxurious cruiser now to round off the fleet. Something you can leave at home permanently whilst deciding to drive your 205 or your Honda.

Then before packing up I decided to do the oil change.

I understand that owning a mk1 Insight is indeed an indicator of superior motoring decision making and I am in no way biased at all... Looks like a good purchase you've made there!

It is by far one of my better purchases. It has a few niggles which should eventually get sorted.

If I hadn't bought it there were a few others lined up to be absolute winners.

I don't want to jinx it, but the main thing I've enjoyed with mine is that it's been stupidly cheap to run and maintain whilst being an interesting enough daily that I haven't wanted to get rid of it out of boredom. The money I've saved through running it can then be directly funnelled into poor decisions on other vehicles. It's a beautiful system!

Am I right in thinking that the big box thing you have there is a mains charger for the hybrid battery pack? That's the only issue I've had with mine bar wear and tear drop links etc., the pack threw a wobbly after being sat for a few years. Charging it and discharging it a few times over has resulted in it settling down and providing reliable service.

Yes it is. It came with the car.

I think @Asimo is the man responsible for it and it has stayed with the car since.

Next up the Civic that has done 6,000 miles since it arrived at the end of May.

Quick oil change, it was obviously desperate to get it out so it made a bit of a mess.

PXL_20221007_130352113.thumb.jpg.0044843764a20c941d69fb386120175d.jpg

Then the top up.

PXL_20221007_134412591.thumb.jpg.4289de7d9284c93020de1d2ebba08514.jpg

Then since I'd done some underbody cleaning today I thought I'd do a bit more. It looked a bit grotty and looks a lot better after.

The Civic has a knock and now a rattle on the front left. Investigation points to the top mount and possibly the drop link on the same side. Nothing is falling off and it will be doing a lot less mileage so it can wait until MOT time at the end of the year.

The headlights were a little* cloudy, before and after.

PXL_20221022_103654064.thumb.jpg.d2ee72b6243ee56567ecdb9c9d9dc442.jpg

Then looking underneath the rear springs have helpers in, one was trying to escape. As I won't be dragging anything heavy they came out with a bit of effort.

PXL_20221022_105253878.thumb.jpg.8fae799448080c9d5c382f1c4e8afbd8.jpg

Stance while removing them.

PXL_20221022_113024876.thumb.jpg.d90906a8477c8b9cfe3084bfb134da26.jpg

This was easily and safely achieved by doing this.

MOT was on Thursday. Drivers side headlight aim was low which was adjusted and I got some advisories.

The knock was the drop link on the passenger side and the ball joint on the drivers side wasn't going to last another year so these were attacked today.

The ball joint comes as a lower arm complete and a decent one was £160! I was a little shocked.

PXL_20230107_101116498.thumb.jpg.4ede7c11d4bd2fe2e2b3502f063c8644.jpg

Getting the ball joint undone was a war involving the grinder.

PXL_20230107_121508504.thumb.jpg.c91273bb0d53afcd0931e52a5c6ec69b.jpg

This it the nut.

PXL_20230107_121512256.thumb.jpg.2d193a95cc8a49f6f13b4612e5f4e72f.jpg

Finally for today was one of the rear coil springs that if you looked very closely from a certain angle you could see that most of the bottom coil had broken off.

PXL_20230107_141349323.thumb.jpg.7c3ebe997c528fa021cc0aa79e665582.jpg

So that got swapped too.

It needs a couple of tyres soon so they are getting done on Tuesday after work then I'll do the tracking and it can go back into normal use.

In the meantime I've been using the economic car and a mostly motorway run at 65-70 returned this.

PXL_20230107_093039799.thumb.jpg.743b40bd1f1f626bad54a8d2d2e1c725.jpg

More than happy with that.

That will do for another while.

So it has been a month since the MOT and fixing the Civic. It was in the best shape it had been for quite a while so the obvious thing and usual approach I take was to sell it.

It didn't get advertised as someone needed transport for a new job and this fitted the bill.

It has been a while since I updated this.

The Civic left and then this arrived from my regular supplier @davehedgehog31

PXL_20230228_195251082.thumb.jpg.d61aa529d642024cd6f9e1c41846e6b3.jpg

My youngest, Meg, had a friend at uni that was getting a new* Polo and had been offered a shit trade in deal. I said I'd sell it for him so this arrived.

PXL_20230318_170201179.thumb.jpg.8877c6a48f0389c3d77bc4d0edcf43b8.jpg

PXL_20230318_170220772.thumb.jpg.b44ee158b4ff7ac7fa2c2ebf52442388.jpg

Was a decent car with a lot of miles on the 1.2 engine. It was clear it had been well looked after. This went to a friend of @aldo135

Posted

This is still here and I'll probably get round to getting it sold at some point.

PXL_20230319_093713759.thumb.jpg.ddfc4fc21e989885bfccaa9e66c12a45.jpg

This went through no problem

PXL_20230421_115149898.thumb.jpg.9fb75be8f29b3009e6272933ad7b5bc5.jpg

Meg's 107 started making an unpleasant exhaust noise and the flange on the bottom of the cat had detached so that got some weld thrown at it.

It was then this one's turn

PXL_20230515_144349355.thumb.jpg.39db71206a7fa83adb7dafc1d9d6c3f5.jpg

It went through no problem, the windscreen had a small crack outside the view of the driver so that got changed shortly after.

Then the indicator telltale decided to not so I climbed up to this

PXL_20230609_110303471.thumb.jpg.77ca605d95950fa50c54574e2efe5d16.jpg

To get one of these

PXL_20230609_113700062.thumb.jpg.992c0616769d5db909e76e9a86c465ea.jpg

I've now got 12,000 miles less but have indicators.

My MOT man said the rear passenger sill was needing attention but not bad enough to get a fail. He knows I sort stuff reasonably quickly.

I gave it some prodding with a screwdriver and got this

PXL_20230609_125328653.thumb.jpg.ee40bae8f02c328b231e5032646660de.jpg

Then came the angle grinder

PXL_20230609_131058072.thumb.jpg.0eb48be00b6e608eac39c1a0c2e643b3.jpg

Then some MR2 door skin was applied

PXL_20230609_155605058.thumb.jpg.06d8b75f14f16ef25b91c4da2a341523.jpg

It was like I'd forgotten how to weld where I started, on the right if you hadn't noticed...

Started again at the top left and was much happier.

Inside the rear arch was also treated

PXL_20230611_124618008.thumb.jpg.fa45538cda1981f6a945e276081eba75.jpg

It recently developed a new fault with the fan blower motor not doing anything, the relay clicks but nothing else. All fuses seem to be ok, removed and checked so the dash will need to come out and the steering column dropped and the clutch pedal needs shifted as well to get to the motor

I'm needing a car to take three of us to Manchester and I'm not likely to get the blower motor sorted in time so this was collected last week

Screenshot_20230722-182739.thumb.png.381aeecc0b5bb2ad8b33c7632aa1bc16.png

It did ok mpg on the way home

The youngest is down in Manchester on placement for a few weeks, I got a message that Tommy, her 107, was not doing too well. A brief investigation showed it had started consuming the coolant and running a bit rough. Some basic maths were done which took about 3 seconds and this was the outcome.

Special thanks to @davehedgehog31 for supplying such an ace and economic little car.

I've been commuting in the Insight for the last two weeks. I've been trying my best to keep to the lean burn as much as possible.

It has been fun in a pathetic sad bastard way but I'm pleased with the numbers.
