For those of you who doubt whether you need a Vel Satis in your life, ask yourself a serious question:

WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU SAW ONE OF THESE IN THE UK?

Buy the Vel Satis! this is being collected on the 30/11 from France, come what may! Funds from Vel Satis needed urgently 8)

Many thanks Marvin's Mom,

My father ran a 20TX until 1996, I have seen another 2 on British roads, the last time being in 2001.

The most comfortable car ever made imo

My mother hated it though lol! Very heavy and difficult steer/park she says!

The ridiculous running costs, price of TRX tyrescouldn't put my father off.

Nor could the time the exhaust fell off in Harrogate! We hit a humpback bridge a bit rough, and all of a sudden there was a terrible metallic screech from under our feet. My mother made him get us kids out of the car (She wasn't having it that the Spitfire engine roaring was down to the exhaust - she was convinced the car was about to explode and wipe us all out hahahah   After wandering round Harlow Carr gardens for 5 hours while my father crawled off at 10mph to find someone in Harrogate with a spare R20 exhaust knocking about on a Sunday afternoon, (No mobiles in those days) she has flatly refused to ever visit Harlow Carr again! My father always says it was the only time he was ever glad she wouldn't listen to him - imagine if us 3 brats had been along for that afternoon from hell!!  :-D

There was a black 20TX knocking around Rawdon/Guiseley for a while, garage find I believe. No idea where it ended up once sold.

Yes there was, part of a deceased estate that one. Never saw it myself, but heard a tale of corrosion horrors on here from someone who went to have a look. Would have been well and truly on its very last MOT   if what they said was true

I have a pretty set of original alloys for one of them.

We had a bloke on here some years back who went through a right old faff trying to get hold of a 20. If I remember right he paid for it to be restored by the vendor and it dragged on for months, I can't remember if he ever actually took delivery or not. Baz was his username.

About time we had one of these to go with the Tagora's, 604's and CX's that have been owned on here.

Not seen one on the road for at least 25 years.

Hard to tell from the picture but it looks like it is on standard 20ts wheels rather than the metric alloy's these had. I always wanted one years ago when they first came out as they are really comfy things, but they did have trouble with the V6 knocking camshafts out. I bought a 25 V6 in the end

"Now it's a disco, but not for Lola"

One of my must have cars was a 30TX (including 604, Royale, SD1).

Friends father had a green T reg-sounded nice-I remember him buying it in 1980/1981 from an ad in the Sunday Times-think it was £4000ish.

Renault 20s were everywhere once. My TS was brilliant even if green things were growing out of the rear seat. Fabulous ride even when the front shockers were so knackered that they were full of water rather than oil. (Which would freeze when really cold and ruin the ride quality.)

Best of luck with the collection, sale etc.

Always preferred the front end of the 20 to the 30. Quite amazing that this was, visually, virtually the only differentiator.

Who do think you are,Stirling Moss ?

That advert spawned a lot of Senna/Mansell/Berger on the M25 stories, all of them I'm quite sure total crap!

(Yes, I know that was a TS)

Good luck! I don’t recall seeing a 20 or 30 on the road during any of my recent holidays in France. Only one I’ve found in the UK was pretty local to me, but removed a few years ago:

Sam (Brammy/Bramm77) has posted a photo of one on Flickr he saw very recently.

Baz is still alive and well, he came to the recent RAF Marham trackday with me. He never did get his 20, or the money back.

I had a 30TX but neither the time of money to fix it. Ed Ratdat took it on. Then I don't remember what happened to it.

In one of my 'skint' periods I was lent free and for nowt, a Renault 20 TS. It was very blue and very dirty but it was costing me nothing so I cleaned it up and drove the thing. It was great. The fan had been bridged so that if the ignition was on, the fan was running but other than that, it was fine. I thought it was a brilliant, comfortable barge and soooooooo practical. Drove it for about two months while I sorted myself out financially and then bought a Renault 16TX  (or GTX or whatever the top spec one was called) and I loved that car. Column shift auto (I think) and apart from a sporadic refusal to idle which was always cured by an Italian tune up, totally reliable.

I bought a 30 TX auto in JRG for not much and loved it but sold it on as the lure of the quick profit was too great...

I think it was that free 20 that started me on a seemingly never ending succession of  bloody Renaults, nearly all 25s and I thought they were great cars apart from that stupid bitch in the dashboard that was a pathological liar!

Got to relive the Renault 30 rides in the cars my mate's parents used to drive. They had 3 of them, TS up to TX V6 injection, all manual. Great! I even recall the indicators tick and the unususual central locking pins. PRV-RRRRRRRRRRRRRRR! :D 20s maybe a lot smoother...

My uncle has a 20TX alongside his 16TS. What a pair, both great condition!

The last I saw of it (a few years ago) the 20 was laid up as it needed a part for the autobox which is made from unobtainium, so I've never had a shot in it. Dunno if he still has it, or even where he found it!
