NorfolkNWeigh Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Ever since the 1600E ,Ford have been at the forefront of using wheels, whether steel, alloy or even plastic trim design to differentiate the various trim levels of their ranges. I'm sure I'm not the only one who can identify a GL from an L or Laser from a Calypso solely from the wheels. So, just put up a picture of your favourites from the 60's,70's,80's,90's and 2000's. It doesn't mean you like the car or that you're buying into OSF bollocks or any other AS inverted snobbery. To make it interesting* show your least favourite too. From this( or does the 5 12 j Lotus count?)To this. Don't worry ,we can do all the other manufacturers later.
trigger Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I have a set of those Mk2 1600E Rostyles on my Cortina, I like the early Mk1 Sierra trims. and the pepperpot style wheel trims fitted to the 2.0i S. As for alloys, the Cossie style one's on the Escort are nice, everyone wanted a set when i was a lad. Shep Shepherd 1
MarvinsMom Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 the mark 4 escort turbo's dog leg alloys where a bonny set of wheels, and the late mark 2 sierra LX hubcaps are nice too by contrast the wheel trim/hub caps on the original mark 1 sierra's are in my opinion, horrid. CGSB 1
sierraman Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 The raindrop ones on the mk1 mondeo glx. Used to be like hens teeth to get hold of spare ones. andrew e 1
Hertz Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 These were my fav, they were 17's I think? I always wanted a set for my mk 4 XR3i but couldn't find a set in my tight wad budget. Probably worth mega bucks now.
warren t claim Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 XR3 cloverleafs and when I was a child I loved the embellishes fitted to the Mk3 Cortina XL blakey79 1
warren t claim Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 In fact if you wanted to give your Mk3 the 1986 look you should fit a set of stolen trimz off an early Sierra
Timewaster Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 These were my fav, they were 17's I think? I always wanted a set for my mk 4 XR3i but couldn't find a set in my tight wad budget. Probably worth mega bucks now. Got those on my Sierra. Can be 16" or 17" Mine cost £500 ten years ago when I had some money. Good knows what they would cost now.
Junkman Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Favourite: Taunus 26m XL P7 I had a set of them and used them on all kinds of cars. Least favourite: Escort 1 Always thought they look stupid and ditched them immediately. Christine and Shep Shepherd 2
doobietoo Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Favorite are these Lotus steels with hubcaps..... Saw a set on an unrestored Cortina mk2 estate and they looked soooo right.... As for the worst..... these propeller styleeee puma rims Completely gopping.... 5 spokes and four lumps in the middle and looking like a childs drawing, wrong, utterly wrong, ford what were you thinking ??? Christine 1
Pillock Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 I used to be proper geeky about wheels on Fords, I don't know why. I was a special child.I liked that my mum's Escort LX had wheeltrims that looked almost identical to Mk2 Scorpio wheels - the ones with two square holes at various points around the wheel.I also liked the white efforts - Fiesta 1.4S and the cost-reduced late Escort XR3i. Were they the same trim, or the same style in different sizes? MarvinsMom 1
doobietoo Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Favourite: Taunus 26m XL P7 I am sure these were also fitted to the MK4 zephyr and zodiac. I remember having a set on a Zodiac 6 I once owned. Lubberly...... pompei and Junkman 2
bigstraight6 Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Favourite: Taunus 26m XL P7 [img=https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/dd/Ford_26m.jpg There really can't be any other place where the aesthetic merits of Ford hubcaps are championed! The ones on the Taunus are the same as the MK4 Zodiac and Corsair 2000E and are my favourite, a MK3 Zodiac riding on the 14" wheels with these hubcaps looks sharp...... Junkman and chaseracer 2
hairnet Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 hate - oh youve not got past ford yet holbeck and mercrocker 2

fordperv Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 my favourite wheel trims that arent already put up are those of the low spec mk2 sierra usually seen on L and lx models from 1990 as for alloy wheels i really like the sapphire cosworth 4wd sharktooth alloys i am quite partial to the late sierra gls alloys as well Sealtainn 1
vulgalour Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 These aren't just a favourite of Ford for me, but a favourite of any wheel trim ever. I'm also rather partial to the swirly three spokes found on Probes. Shep Shepherd 1
RoadworkUK Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 As for the worst..... these propeller styleeee puma rims Incorrect. Original Puma wheels were fantastic. Also, all MKII Granada wheels were splendid, too, though for some reason I'm particularly drawn to these: purplebargeken, HMC, danthecapriman and 1 other 4
vulgalour Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Over in Americaland, the LTD got these beauties. There's some gorgeous trims fitted to all sorts of boring 70s mundano-chod. danthecapriman and Shep Shepherd 2
RoadworkUK Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Because I'm weird, Fiesta Mk3 Si wheeltrims. AKA Mondeo GLX wheeltrims. warren t claim 1
sierraman Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 About 4 years ago I had a right collection of 90's ford hubcaps, threw the lot in the skip. Couldn't get rid of them for love nor money. One day in about 10 years someone will be selling some Sierra LX hubcaps for about a thousand pounds. I will then be quietly sick. trigger, 2MB and purplebargeken 3
AndyW201 Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Sierra GLSi trims rock! I had a Sapphire 1.6 Classic (so pov-spec) as a taxi once that had a set of 90's vintage motor-factor trims on. Came in to work one day and it had been given a set of GLSi trims and some red strips in the bumpers and side trims. It looked the bollocks after that. A short time later I was upgraded to a late K reg Sapphire TD GLX that had a set of (then brand new) Mk1 Mondeo GLX trims on. I was like the boss of the Middlesbrough private hire brigade for a while with that bad boy! Another fave is the Fiesta mk2 1.4S trim. I had a white 1.4S back in 1993. Back then it was a safe bet that round our area, if you had a white sporty Ford with white wheel trims and red bumper stripes, you'd be beating them off with a shitty stick. Well that's what I got told... vulgalour and Semi-C 2
Barry Cade Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 Ace Thread! Love these. HATE these. mercrocker, trigger, Christine and 3 others 6
Taff Posted October 29, 2015 Posted October 29, 2015 59 Galaxie, 14 inch steels, hubcaps & whitewalls mercrocker, xtriple, purplebargeken and 1 other 4
