Can we please let this shit thread die now?

And yes, I realise I just resurrected it.

In the spirit of not letting this thread die I'd just like to say that I've never owned a Maxi. They seemed to have no appeal in the same way that most people carriers fail to excite. I drove one recently and it was not too bad, years ahead of its time in fulfilling a need that no one wants to have.

I have fond memories of a dark green Maxi 1500 that one of my mates used to own. Its top speed was 50 mph and it consumed equally large amounts of oil and petrol.

On a trip up to London once to collect a motorbike for another friend, I remember seeing the word SCANIA loom into view in massive letters through the fog of oil smoke behind the car... the car never actually made it back from that trip, and after a few half-arsed attempts at getting it going again it was eventally returned to Reclamet scrapyard (used to be on Sturry Road in Canterbury, near the Asda) from which my mate bought it.

Actually, now I think about it, it was a shit car really.

My auntie had a MaxE. However, I always preferred her Renault 12 with its wafflicious dashboard.

Even if the MaxE had the lesser spotted derv v12 lump fitted, I would still have preferred the 12. Because dashboard.

Maxi's are ok shite, in a failed Landcrab / failed Renault 16 sort of way.

A proper Maxi thread might be good. Does any one here have one?

Youz are all tossers.

My dad had a 1750HL in blue KPH269P

And a Renault12

I ran an R reg. 1750HL for about a year back in 1983, a very good car apart from breaking down three times.

By the way, I have no connection with Old Fart.

I had a diesel one, it was superb

I bought it with as full tank of fuel and ran it for a couple of hundred miles

Refuelled it with diesel and it only lasted a few minutes more. Shame, it was way better than the petrol ones....

I ran an J reg. 1750 for a whole year back in 2011, a very good car and never broke down ever.

Even better than that, it was in Limeflower and folks would gawp.

I had a Maxi in 1986 and hated it.  I can safely say it's an experience I won't be repeating.

When I was 16, I had a Puch Maxi moped.  It was suitably shit.

You didn't sell it to a bloke called Chamberpot did you?

My early Renault 25 had my favourite dash ever. It even won a design award

No car has ever had a finer dash than that Renault 12.

Well...

Used to go to school in a Maxi. Looked lousy to drive but as a rear seat passenger it was a very pleasant place to be. Seemed very quiet I recall, perhaps it never moved very fast.

you gotta love the renner logic on the r12 dash "lets put the heater knob where the passenger cannot reach"

Posted

R12 steering wheel boss was modeled on the panini.

Well I had a 1980 1750HL Badermatic. Then I got some cheap tyres, attached to these rimz:

Motor was sound ropey as fook 17k miles later, probably didn't like it's diet of 95UL (plus the rare tank of 98UL, so I dropped the lot out and robbed the lump out of my other one and made it manual as I didn't have time or inclination to swap boxes.

No I'm only kidding. I'm not 'im.  I was only 'aving you on.
