AnthonyG Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 The little red Escort that could! Great story.
phil_lihp Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 Brilliant! Just absolutely lovely. I hope the buyer's still looking after it, it looks brand new in the photos. This is exactly what I like about this forum and long may it continue.
andrew e Posted September 17, 2015 Posted September 17, 2015 EVERYTHING WE DO, IS DRIVEN BY.... DRIVEN BY.... DRIVEN BY UHIRST....
purplebargeken Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Escorts are ace, especially Mk4 Escorts.
trigger Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 Just a fantastic thread, THIS is the Autoshite I first joined. Keep up the great work DAN_HIRST Vin and pompei 2

Alexg Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 I initially thought this was a parody thread but it's enjoyable shitting never the less.
phil_lihp Posted September 18, 2015 Posted September 18, 2015 It's a good thread, Mazda knew their stuff more than they let on I reckon, my 323F was probably one of the best handling cars I've driven, although it's perhaps not fair to compare it to the Volvo 940 with 4 perished tyres that came after it.
Mr_Bo11ox Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 This is a 100% solid shite thread, great stuff! TEXTBOOK pompei and Vin 2
r.welfare Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 The 0-60 of the 323 sounds pretty good, I guess the earlier ones with the timing chain engines are faster than the later 1.3s with a timing belt like I had a few years back, which was nippy up to about 40mph then glacial above that.
pompei Posted September 20, 2015 Posted September 20, 2015 I can't keep up. How many cars do you have?
Lacquer Peel Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 I'd love to see an AMC Eagle in the metal, they are one of my favourite cars. Great thread, awesome job.
mouseflakes Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 For some reason I really want to know what year the Mazda is. But if you don't want to say, I won't mind.
mouseflakes Posted September 23, 2015 Posted September 23, 2015 Crikey, I was thinking late 80s. Nice. I can go to bed now, thanks.
Bear Posted September 25, 2015 Posted September 25, 2015 Piazza is Japanese for "Axle-Donor". Move that Escort out of the way. It's blocking the view of the Visa Decapotable. (Many cars. Much pictures. Wow). cms206 1
garethj Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 Good write up, I agree that the more you look the more interesting features there are to find. As kids (anyone younger than 35) start to look back at cars of their younger days it'll be the Japanese ones that stand out; the late '80s and early '90s were a fantastic time for truly mad designs. Hirst continues to be either a barometer of youth-cool or a slightly more sinister version of the Pied Piper of Hamelin.
MrDuke Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 I demand another shot of the bag, in which I can actually read the Japglish writing.
Vin Posted September 26, 2015 Posted September 26, 2015 It's like 2006 all over again. This is the Autoshite I joined and loved. I remember VicSmiths Chrysler 180. He posted here once. Or twice. I also recall it starring in a HirstCabs* Spanish Taxi video or something. It's a shame Pogweasel is dead. Justin Case, dugong, cms206 and 5 others 8
dugong Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 This thread is better than anything I have written in the past (or in the future). EXCELSIOR
anonymous user Posted September 27, 2015 Posted September 27, 2015 I don't have one and it's in the boot of a car miles from me. And it smells on account of the body. Not another MI6 chap I hope, did this one lock himself in as well? cms206 1
dugong Posted September 28, 2015 Posted September 28, 2015 I hope not, you're the grunting moron around here. I don't have a hat with "press" on it. Maybe "depress". EFA
Honey Badger Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Great post, the inside of the 156 looks like a sumptuous place to spend some time.
brownnova Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I had a 156, and loved it! It was the 2.4JTD tho, and despite saying 107k on the clock I found a sticker under the bonnet some months later for the 155k service... Bugger... It was a superb car tho, and the interior was awesome. I'd quite like another. Mrs B is less keen... She thought it was unreliable. But it never broke down! Until it broke a clutch, with a DMF, so I traded it in and lost more Money than I have ever lost on a car before. Good times! And great posts Hirst- enjoyable reading!
HMC Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 Brilliant vid, that engine note is bloody fantastic!
Slappy Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I would love that, and I'd take it to many Italian tunnels. I had a serious eye for Mr BV's 156 (not publicly declared), but it needed some work and I'm a mechanical dunce, so I chickened out. Also, not nearly enough cash monies to keep it in bushes and tyres. One day....
New POD Posted September 29, 2015 Posted September 29, 2015 I have a mate in northern Ireland who has more than a few 155's. 6 or 7 I think. And One in Derby, for during the week. Swears by them and at them.
Six-cylinder Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 I would love that, and I'd take it to many Italian tunnels. I had a serious eye for Mr BV's 156 (not publicly declared), but it needed some work and I'm a mechanical dunce, so I chickened out. Also, not nearly enough cash monies to keep it in bushes and tyres. One day.... I have BV72 156 and you are right there is a fair bit of work that needs doing, it is with an Alfa specialist in Northampton, the gear change has been sorted with the supply and fitting of a s/h linkage. Still to go front suspention arms, radiator and brakes, I don't push on time as I am short of parking at home so I guess I will get it back one day. Then a touch of paint for the wing/door. In the mean time I can still go around saying I have a "V6 Veloce", I love the way that sounds! Slappy, outlaw118 and HMC 3
flat4alfa Posted September 30, 2015 Posted September 30, 2015 Top threadage I was in want of the BV72 too, but the 156 dizzler Wagon daily I already have had for the past 6 years has been great and trouble-free; so I don't want to break the spell by being greedy and follow the drama queen road as alluded to above by Mr Hirst. At least I'm only a dash away from Buckingham so I know where it sleeps and can keeping ear out for a possible future roffle. I should also mention I owned a largely trouble-free 155 Widey TS for 8 years prior to that too. They only reason that is not still kept in a lock-up somewhere is due to the Wife getting it clouted into cat-B land by a red van man. Is the *famous Hirst Cabs story next on the blog thread?
