This is the End - Bentley launches a Diesel Estate

It's called "Bentayga" and is a VW Touran festooned with some chicken wire and a Bentley batch, and costs more than a house, so keying it should earn you a medal.

It marks an all-time historic low for style and dignity, following current trends in society and politics. "Bentayga" means 'tax-free-offshore-account' in Spanish.

Does it drink teh veg?

It's not for us, really; it'll be for the Chinese market.

Seriously, though: if you want a diesel Bentley then you don't have enough money, end of story.

Only organic direct from the farmer, juiced in the finest vitamix.

Ah yes, the new Bentley Freelander.  And there was I thinking Bentley was supposed to be less vulgar than Rolls Royce.

It's as if the 2010's has taken all the really bad bits of humanity from the 80's that we laughed about in the 90's, and replicated them without the slight bit of irony.

That thing is horrible.

Looks like they've finally become what old Ettore called them in the 20's.

In 2004 I bemoaned that the VW Phaeton coupe wasn't a real* Bentley , now I find myself wondering how long before they're down to my price level. To become the first 200mph AS collection thread.

No doubt, over the next 15 years as more hideous blinged up monstrosities are launched, these will look quite restrained by the time they're available for under £10,000 and we'll all have one.

Yeah...when did that happen? It's almost like many kids born in the late 70s/ early 80s used their awful parents as role models..

oh dear.

If it's got Volkswagens silly 5.0 V10 TDI I might be able to forgive them for it.

Mind you Bugatti Did liken them to fast lorries, but this is taking it a bit far maybe, unless they go the whole hog and branch out with a rebadged MAN tractor unit........

Serious point about this (well, I'll attempt it)

As evidenced by a recent thread on here where someone (can't remember who but good on you, sir) bought a proper one, Bentleys, Rollers, etc., used to be special cars which some people used to aspire (as much as I hate that word) to buy. In light of recent products by these marques, what the livin' hell are these things? Even though you can spot bits from a 70s taxi on the 70s ones, they used to still be a bit special.

The thing up there seems as much a Bentley as that weird Cygnet thing was an Aston. Hardly 'poster on bedroom wall' material is it?

What do you expect from a world, where even a Rolls Royce looks like a Kia?

Sorry, no turbodiesel until next year...

I just hope to hell I never, ever, see one.   Buy one of these and sell your soul.

Rolls-Royce Diesel?

Thought they sold their engine division to Perkins.

Unless you mean they're going to put one in a car but that makes no sense.

There is no end to terribleness at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show.

The future is the double-glazed 2.5 ton 600 PS V12.

Who wants to see MOAR goppingness created from the poor victims of the scrappage scheme?

If you baulk at 15-20mpg, you CANNOT afford a Bentley. The whole concept of buying a diesel is to save money. Fitting it to a Bentley is akin to buying a Stately Home then getting an Economy 7 meter as you are struggling with the heating bills.

Will this be made in Crewe, or in St. Petersburg & Shanghai to cut shipping costs and delivery times...?

Wolfsburg, I'd say. To assure* quality*. And share the assembly line with the Touareg.

Don't even dream of not seeing one of these. They will be the best selling Bentleys of EVAH.

What annoys me is that they bothered trying to make it look like a Bentley.

It's an opportunity missed. They could have completely redefined what the ultimate 4x4 should be. Instead they simply took all their tackiest current trinkets of excess and sprayed them at a generic looking Sports Utility Vehicle.

Who's to say that a Bentley SUV needs to look anything like a Bentley car?

In contrast, BAe systems build both ships and aeroplanes yet ensure that there is absolutely no resemblance between them.

If somehow I had the money, I'd still buy an AMG G-wagen before one of these. And they do 20mpg as well as being the fastest brick.

That's one tiger that ought to be an endangered species. They'll sell like hot cakes.

If it comes with a 4.302 I'm in.

In my head, a Bentley SUV should be from the Syd Mead school of design.  Something like this with a Bentley grille on it.

Or this, which will ensure Tarquin and Isabella get to Infant Ballet School on time.

Or this, if you absolutely must be a Bentley playboy.

Bentley, I am disappoint.  You could be so much more than a rebadged VW.

It's pretty minging but it's designed for the Middle Eastern and Asian markets, I guess.

They may take a bit of a bath on it considering conspicuous consumption is now frowned upon by the powers that be in China.

Ever since Porsche minted themselves with the Cayenne this has only been a matter of time. Jaguar and Maserati ones are on the way - Ferrari would probably do one as well if they could guarantee no one outside Dubai/Abu Dhabi would ever see it.
