When these were new, I got chased away from a display of them in the Metro Centre, as I enquired why the boot lock is located so low, given that the cars are primarily aimed at OAP's.

Aren't they just a slightly bigger Fiesta? I forgot they existed to be honest.

A Fiesta on stilts, which cost more and now worth less.

I have never understood why such a relatively small car fitted with reasonably powerful engines would only be able to reach 37mph flat out.  It's an affliction which also seems to affect the Vauxhall Agila, and it's an ongoing source of puzzlement to me.

I could never forget they exist, there always seems to be one of the feckers doing about 30 on the duel carriageway near me, or 10mph down the country lanes.

My stepdad bought one recently for £not a lot. He is oldish but he's a pretty active bloke so not a typical giffer. It's the 1.4tdci model, sips fuel and loads of space inside. It's been ultra reliable. He loves it.

Also just remembered my ex's parents have one. They are proper giffers and they do hold up traffic. He spends more time cleaning it than driving it. Takes it to a ford dealer every few months for a full service, i.e. about every 1500 miles.

All piss taking aside, yes they tend to be giffer-kit but that fact can make them good VFM, ie: little used and looked after. One of dad's friends has one (don't know what motor it's got) and I was surprised by the amount of space inside with the seats down it had - a good cheap van/carry-all I thought. He said it was very reliable too as he'd had it from nealy new and had experienced little going FUBAR on it (& he's a chap who likes to complain about stuff too!).

Sounds like good practical AS kit to me.

I've always liked them. Not got round to being owned by chain smoking tattooed single mum with 3 kids by 5 dads yet either. I must admit I once followed one doing nearly 50 mph. I was amazed

My Dad owned one a few years back. Was a + model, and think it may have been a Ford Press car, as had every option in it.

Tinted windows from B Pillar back, rear parking sensors (God Knows why), and a roof mounted DVD player screen with wireless headsets. (They were stored in the cubby hold under the front passenger seat base - My dad did not even now they were there)

he loved his as it sipped fuel and only £30 a year road tax. (Which he was always telling me about :) )

Just remembered it also had this additional "box" that would fit in the middle of the rear seats to make it a two seater in the back, but with an armrest and cup holders.

Just found this one on e-bay.

I'll mention this to the old man, as I believe he kept it for some reason when he px'd the car.

Cheers

Dave

My Mum owned one of these and was killed when she opened the door and stepped into the path of a motorbike, I sold the fusion to the inlaws and they love it. Bags of room inside and nice to drive.

If it chugs like it's got a blowing exhaust and is totally gutless, the injector seals are gone, they're basically fat copper sump plug washers and a doddle to fit

I had to Google what a Ford Fusion was.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Fusion_(Europe)

The European Ford Fusion is a vertically stretched version of the Ford Fiesta supermini

okay

In 2002, on Top Gear, it won the Most Pointless Car for being, as Richard Hammond described it, "a Ford Fiesta, in a hat."

I can picture his smarmy shit eating grin when he said that, as he looked around at the audience desperately fawning for their pathetic obsequious laughter to some how justify his own worthless existence.

Potentially useful thing. One parked in our road. Looks very tidy indeed (the car not the road. The road is shit).

er, got a phone number for her, mate?

I've just seen one this morning in a green hue reminiscent of that colour you used to get Mercs in if you didn't want beige.

I bought one with 140k on the clock and a blown turbo for much cheapness, £30 for a turbo rebuild kit and I eventually sold it for a bit of profit, was a hassle dealing with gumtree mongs though. Put me right off bread and butter cars, hence I now have the Scimitar...

I had one as a rental in Germany once and it was absolutely miserable transport.  Buying a miserable unloved car for £450 is proper hardcore shiting, so excellent work.

I'm a driver of one of these miserable things. Despite having the most powerful Fusion engine - 1.6 petrol, it seems pre-progammed to be driven slowly giving it any stick just feels wrong!

I can't believe Ford got away will selling these up until 2011/12 virtually unchanged.
