old campervan wanted

Surely the correct way would be to nip down the auctions, buy the first Mercedes Sprinter you see (other awful vans are available) build some shelving out of old pallets, to put the gas ring and washing up bowl on, then stick on old sofa/mattress in the back and you are away.

If I were doing this (I wish) I'd be adding toilet/shower room to my wish list (not nice having a dump in a bucket if you're "entertaining")  also solar panels.

Wouldn't you consider petrol/LPG conversion?

The shite way to do it is buy a ropey old van and an old caravan then transfer the caravan interior into the van.

Posted

We did exactly that with our motorbike race transporter years ago. Our caravan was fairly new but had been ripped to shreasd externally when it was jackknifed by its previous owner. Cheap and everything was fairly new. I also believe Ikea kitchens are easy to cut down to fit.

What you need is a GMC day/rape van. LHD would be useful on the continent and just do drive offs from euro petrol stations.

then you can pick/eat oranges and olives from my nearby shack, ride the ex-purplebargeken moped to go fish the vast lake and swim in vino collapso at 76p a litre

£3.6k! Have LT prices gone up that much? I notice it has a split charge unit yet still somehow the fridge managed to flattern the battery...

Yep - when I bought mine recently prices for anything half-way ready for use were above £3000. I paid just over half that for one with a couple of weeks' MOT and a failure sheet, which is still a lot of money.

Are you now going to make me sick by telling us you paid half a licked Twix and 32 Belgian centimes for your ace late-model 2.4 turbo diesel with its funky rev counter? :-D

I've just been offered this as a part ex on my VW

While it is rather tempting I'm pretty sure I can't drive it on my licence and I've got nowhere to keep it.  Three way deal?

Yup! £690, with a years mot, 6 months tax, AND a caravan! To be fair, the guy said a lot of people were interested in one or the other, but not both, and once bids had been placed he didnt want to split. Plus it was 10 years ago, when it was 'just' an old van like a '54 plater would be now.

Here's an XUD turbo:

OK so I bought this today. Its pretty much exactly what i wanted except that its got a massive dent in the rear corner panel at one side where some hapless twat has backed it into a lamppost. £3000 - easily the most expensive vehicle i have ever bought by a factor of about 3.

I need to find a dead one that can have the appropriate metal chunk sliced out with a stihl saw or whatever to get me a repair section but other than that it seems sweet. 1.9 Fiat turbo diesel engine, not an XUD. Its even got a towbar!!!! Fuggin GRADE A

That looks first rate bar the mullered bit at the back. I love these chairs too that swivel right around, like you're piloting the flipping Enterprise or something.

My uncle has one of these- not sure if its Talbot or Pug badged, but its the massive 'autosleeper' jobbie that go for €6k or €7k+ here, n most of them are the 2L petrol versions - his is the 2.5 D variant; he'd sell it for €3k but I haven't looked at it too closely as I covet it so much, but have strategically given it the 'whatever' vibes, when Im round at his.... I did shimmy under it one day when we got back to his 5mins before him at his, n one inner sill is giggered, which wouldn't concern me greatly, as I can weld in a new inner sill...

He used to 'hire it out' n it went all the way to Posnan, Poland n all the way back , without any 'mechanical'  issue, for the last Euro's; transporting something like a dozen Irish footie fans, who went all that way to see the poor excuse for football our national side exhibited, n of course to DRINK a lot!!

I can't help but think that some sort of fly drive arrangement where you fly down and buy a Nissan Ebro in Spain would of been better.

If it's a Fiat lump, I guess this will be the same 1.9 TD unit fitted to the Tipo and Tempra. If so, from experience, a solid motor...

When did you last see a panel van one of these? I can't even remember. Heres an unlucky late-model one being broken for spares. I'd like to buy it (its only in Stoke on Trent) but WTF would i do with it?
