I could never get bored of looking at these. One day there may be one outside my window. One day.

Glasshopper say, 'Man with blue Avantime resplected by many many walliors'.

well done sir, i tip my bonnet to you!

i secretly would like to try one of these one day. i suspect that i would be too much of a chicken even if i had the cash to go and buy one.

i do love these though. they are a very bold attempt at something so very different from anything else on the road.

Obviously 'the button' has been pressed in the picture (Always a sense of amusement when the windows all dropped and the roof rolled back with one press).  :-)

I ran a '52' plate one for a year back in 2004, having leased it from Renault for £199 a month - It was a badermatic mid metallic blue with the 3 litre V6 yoke, but still rolled like a 2CV and guzzled unleaded to the tune of sub-20mpg.

Top bombing - I enjoyed mine, and you seldom saw another one coming the opposite way

The company that bought the Avantime fleet is still on the go, they have duller modes of transport these days.

I want one of these. Not a diesel obv. How much should one excpect to pay for a serviceable 4-cylinder pez one?

Proper excellent car this it's one of the best cars I've ever owned. I've never had as much positive attention from any car. Even my dad liked it and just as a general rule of thumb he hates anything I buy.

Now I own juke and am forced to wear beige stay pressed trousers.

I think I paid 1700 for it and sold it for a little more than that after spending about 400 quid on it in running repairs. Diesels were only available on the continent . I got 30-35 mpg so they're totally usable .

I'm surprised that company is still going, I might buy shares. Anyone who can make a fleet of Renaults work for them and not go bankrupt obviously knows their onions.

Nice work sir, I do think that is a lovely colour as well.

Iwant one of these myself but am currently enjoying driving badermatics. Can anyone tell me if the autobox they used in these is made of stronger cheese than the usual Renault autoboxes?

Sorry for mini hi-jack, but was it only the V6 that came in auto over here?

Posted

That is lovely, but I would rather have a V6 as I am a masochist (currently have an XM V6)

Nice motor, always fancied one of those!

I mean the Renault by the way..... If I owned the Fiat I would have to drive it with a tarpaulin over it with peep holes cut out so I could see where I am going

One of those cars (the Renault) you could never get tired of looking at. Fab purchase, hats off.

That Avi could upset a Fiesta ST on the local roads - it handles very well, no doubt in part thanks to the decent rubber :) I can't stand modern Renaults as a rule, having been bitten by a radioactive Laguna as a child or something (accident with a time machine, that's why it was radioactive. Always with the questions). Anyway, that one was lovely and if it weren't for the three pedals/lack of cruise control/knowledge that my relentless OCD would have ultimately lead to tears with it, I would have had it as a replacement for the 300C.

It did a very healthy distance with myself, girlfriend and her 8 year old at the beginning of April, as we went from Heathrow, to Birmingham, to the Roald Dhal museum, then to Scotland, Edinburgh (twice), Alnwick (twice), then back down to Heathrow and the high rear seats and immense windows ensured that even on familiar twisty B-roads said 8 year old was enjoying the whole trip.

It's a very impressive package, and a shame more luxury cars haven't followed suit in terms of light and seeing the world around you.

I was on proper right tender hooks as... it is a Renault.

Aside from that, top bombing there you brave, brave man.

Lovely. A brave purchase. Hope you never have to replace the windscreen which allegedly costs more than the rest of the car is worth.

They have. It's just that they are 4x4s rather than dressed as an MPV.

The windscreens have been reproduced by the owner's club and UroGlass, for "around £600", including heated elements, retrofit kit for 2.0 and plugs to directly fit 3.0 existing wiring. I think they lose the IR-reflective coating though.

I think R9UKE managed to get the screen out a breaker in one bit somehow.

Ah, Avantimes. Look cool as.

A bloke on my road used to have a Java Green one, and his wife a cream convertible Beetle.

They now have two Clios and a 1968 Austin Cooper.

Excellent work with the Avantime purchasing there.   Must be nearing the bottom of their curve now surely?   That's what I would tell the wife if I had the stones to buy one anyway.

- Each Avantime cost Renault €141,00

Really? This explains the MK2 Laguna; during its development they were obviously scrimping wherever they could, and putting all the coppers into a big whisky bottle with 'DAD'S AVANTIME FUND' written on the side, to pay for all the big windows and that.

In case it helps, There was an Avantime, pretty much complete in this yard a few months ago:

Alfa this is very spooky...we had, until recently a Multipla JTD in the same colour as yours, and have had a 3L auto Avantime in Illiad blue for the last 5 years...So by this system your next car will be a Nissan Cube in white with brown velour interior!
