Picked up some cheap alloys I'm going to try fitting on the stellar. I'm pretty sure they are Ghia alloys from a Capri or something.

They were fitted on mk2 and 3 Capri  S  and Ghia  also optional extra in the mk2 Escort Ghia.

Comparing them to an original single ford wheel I had lying around they are almost exactly the same but look like they take sleeved nuts rather than the tapered nuts the ford alloy uses.

Some more silly videos we made today...

Fucking hell! I'm sure that Stellar used to be a Minicab in the Maidstone area when it was new.

It has a Maidstone VRM... If so, it was immaculately kept as a Minicab for a considerable amount of time.

If it is that car, it was my first Hyundai experience and it took us to hospital when the younger brother was launched... 👍 👍 👍 😎 😎 😎

That’s looking nice now. You’ve done a ‘stellar’ job of tidying it up.

Were those Ford wheels also used on Cortinas? I think I’ve seen a few with them. They should look good on the Hyundai.

I don’t believe these wheels were used on the Cortina. The Cortina Ghia wheel was a smaller 4 stud version of the mk2 Granada Ghia wheel.
These Ghia/S wheels are a bit earlier than the Cortina/Granada Ghia style, as posted above, likely from a mk2 or early mk3 Capri.

Actually, it looks a bit crap but it'll do for now.

Hmmm looks like my standard of repair will be ok on the Kudos then LOL..

and I had a set of those wheels on my MK4 cortina

I had a look at the brakes on the Subaru, I really needn't have worried about the bleed nipple shearing as it freed off without issue. Bleeding the brakes stopped them binding as much but they are still shit so going to order a rebuild kit safe in the knowledge that the bleed nipples aren't going to be an issue.

The Ghia wheels you have that need the flat washer nuts are the same as fitted to early Mk2 Capri, the “spokes” are sharper edged too, the later Ghia wheel used the taper nuts with the spokes being smoother compared to the earlier ones.

After a few false starts I've bought my first car of 2021, a 1.3 mk4 Escort with a broken drivers side headlight lens...

It drives well enough for what it is...

proper classic, crossflow engine???

I haven't a fucking clue!

My dad had a brand new 1.3L in the same colour on an E plate, it was a cross flow, by now the cvh was 1.4. Ours replaced a B reg 1.3L which was cvh. The mk4 was incredibly slow by comparison. That looks real poverty spec, should be popular when you sell.

That rear bumper looks like it needs some linseed oil,  looks nice generally👍

Will either be the old Valencia chapper or the CVH. Hope it's the former!

I would think that its going to be the Valencia with the familiar tappity tap tap 🙂

I've decided to do a roffle over on facebook for the Stellar, I don't imagine many on here will want to participate but just in case here's the link:

I've not done all that much in my ownership apart from replacing the alternator and a classic giffer repair of welding/wobbing up the worst of the rear arches, it isn't pretty but shouldn't cause any issue come mot time. Talking of mot's, it doesn't have one, it failed on corroded rear brake lines and a wheel bearing about two years ago and hasn't been for a test since. Having owned and used the blue stellar daily I know that they just aren't the cars for me, I sold the blue one a while ago and know my heart just isn't in getting this one roadworthy.

For the roffle I'm asking £20 a go which probably seems a little steep but I'm also offering the car to be transported anywhere in the UK for free, I'm hoping to fuck that nobody from Cornwall wants it but no matter where the winner wants it delivered to on the UK mainland I will pay to have it transported there.

GLWTR.

Is it me or is there a hint of Maserati 430 to this car?

Maserati 430 -

Without going all RR, lowering it a bit on some 80s Zender alloys would look pretty cool I think.

Edit -just found they were designed by Giugiaro, makes sense.

I see it as well, unfortunately when ever a Stellar has visited me my 425 has not been about.

Found a couple of crusty bits, repaired one so far and took a heat gun to the bumper.

I'm just willing myself to do the other side  which has a large rusty hole in the middle of the sill.

I like that,
I have a soft spot for mk4 escorts as I had one as my first car

I remember having to repair the same area’s on my G reg Escort Eclipse back in 2000

Posted

Thats fantastically terrible.  My old man got a G reg Escort popular brand new from Laidlaws in Kirkcaldy as a company car. Coming from a 76 Viva we felt like royalty in it.

I had an Eclipse 20 or so years ago. It had electric windows which seemed a big deal. I remember that 1.3 HCS as being hellishly noisy though, sounded like the tappets needed setting no matter what you did
