Dave's shonkers - electroshite and auctionshite

Is that on Regular unleaded rather than Super too? I found it didn't feel any difference in performance between it tbh.

I found it torquey enough that I could usually keep it below 2k to 2.5k while still holding speed, which helped with economy too.

I'm using Tesco super out of habit as much as anything, I did reset the learned values on the ECU as well.

I do not keep it below 2.5k rpm, let's put it that way :)

Finally had to pick up some spanners for the Golf, as I still don't have the van back it was to be our transport for Shitefest.

There had been a wubwub sound from the rear for a while, I decided it was the rear left bearing.

I bought a febi bearing from Amazon along with the M18 triple square bit needed to change it.

First snag: I thought I wouldn't be able to get the disc off without an M14 triple square for the caliper carrier.

Luckily if you undo the bolt holding the bearing on, you can wangle them out together.

Imagine my joy to find the "deffo fits M9" Febi bearing for all post 2006 GTIs was in fact too big. 32mm when my car has 30mm stubs.

Had to fly to a local factors on Saturday morning and pick up another one, FAG/Schaeffler was their premium option.

Having had it all off once I thought I'd see how long it took me to replace the bearing the second time. Not that long actually:

IMG_20240713_110435508.jpg.150703816d2b40b02a1b4f7e1b44f1b8.jpg

So off we went to SF.

IMG_20240713_205647697_HDR.jpg.0a3e8233f9893571404045a497c19c71.jpg

The wubwub was reduced but still present. The bearing I took off was definitely rough and I think was original. So I did the other side on Sunday as had another long trip to do on Sunday/Monday.

This time they only had the German sounding but almost certainly actually Chinese Bremen in stock. Not much choice as it was 3pm Sunday afternoon, will be interesting to see if it lasts as long (assuming I still have the car of course)

That sorted the noise so I guess both sides wore out around the same time.

Other than that an uneventful weekend with 500 miles covered at about 33mpg.

This is your 9 hour warning of collection action.

No prizes on this one as I've posted what it is.

Looking forward to hearing how this goes. Good luck, captain.

Attach an alternator onto your bike and with that power lead you could make it into a range extender*

Bromptons are excellent collectioneering assistance  I'm trying to think if I've ever taken mine on a collection. I know I managed to use a Boris bike on a collection once, but I can't remember what it was.

Alarm was set for 4;45, managed to wake up before it which I suppose is an achievement of sorts

The opening steps of this effort will be familiar from such collections as the Golf and the SLK.

Situation: Manchester. Some absolute arsehole has got on the bus and is sat there watching a film or something on loudspeaker on his phone, I was asleep.

Sleeping on a collection mission? Clearly not enough jeopardy.

You've never been on a MegaBus then? Vomit Comet - plenty of jeopardy there (in my book).
Mr _Q patently has nerves of steel and can sleep on the eve of battle.
Bet he's even wearing his battle dress

Clearly some of you have merely adopted the Megabus - I was born in it, moulded by it

Happy collection day Dave, I don't know what it is so I'll say it's a 1977 Suzuki Whizzkid in broon.

Although you might not be able to fit the Brompton in there.

Is that the one with the minor dented rear? I hope you filled in fake details on the battery lease agreement and then ran like crazy!

It is, I've put my limited company down and I await Mobilize sending me some shit in like 3 months with bated breath.

Minor panic as the charge flap wouldn't open. Prised open with my front door key, from the looks of the marks around it they have been using this workaround for a while.

Got here with about 15 miles range left from the initially indicated 68.

IMG_20240730_105221995_HDR.jpg.bf991c3f2851ff9ed000735db09d8eaf.jpg

In the 3-4 min it took me to take these pictures it charged to 36%. I'm hoping I can be away in 40min or so as ideally I need to be back in Huddersfield for about 12:30 (never gonna happen but I can try)

I stuck to around 67mph which got me about 3.7miles/kWh. I've got 57 miles to get back so if I charge to about 90% I should be OK even if I drive at 70mph with reckless abandon.

It's dirty inside and damaged all round but what do you expect for £1095.

The boot is not as bad as it looked on the pics and the boot floor etc is all straight. The front bumper is not well attached so this will probably be one of the first things to look at.

Other foibles:

Farty noise from LHF door speaker

Aircon is pathetic - will see about getting this regassed if there is no obvious damage to condensers etc as the Aircon compressor is a famously involved and expensive repair on these due to being part of the battery cooling.

12v socket dead but can charge from USB

"No maps found" so I will have to look elsewhere to see what roads were like in 2013. There is an SD card present so who knows.

It seems to drive absolutely fine so there's that.

Just having a coffee in Tesco cafe while the electron tank fills up.

Not really sure why I'm looking under here as there's not much to see, just killing time while the last few % go in

You're educating us non-EV plebs as to what actually lies beneath the bonnet of a Zoe - once glimpsed, forgotten for ever......

Check whether the SD card hasn’t just popped out a bit. Had that on one after a valet.

If not you can get a genuine SD card for £24 on eBay.
