Hi dude, looks lovely!any evidence of it having had the tensioners done?

no idea, haven't looked  at any service stuff yet, but I imagine if it was gonna be a problem it would have been one by now.  "Lionel" just handed in the v5 and mot for me. it is mot'd until 11th august. the only advisories were rear tyres, they are now new!  the v5 states he has had it 10yrs.  he was telling me it also had rear suspension bushes done relatively recently.

Thank god I don't have enough money and you are light years away. That looks lovely.

Are you saying there is no service history or you have not looked yet?

Am getting Shipley quotes. I wonder if the prices have changed since I last brought a car down from there?

That is good, if it was close by I don't think I could have resisted it.

I wonder what the local banger boys would give me for the Mercury?  Aberdeen isn't out of reach if I set out early enough...

Ok, update. Driven 100 or so miles this eve, all seems good, no issues reared their heads at all. It feels a bit wallowy, but i have been driving the e39 540 for the last month or so. The service book has 7 stamps up until 55000 when Lionel bought it. I KNOW he has done EVERYTHING it has ever needed in the last 10 years, i also know where, and until about a year ago i could have got a massive print out of everything he has spent on it. However, ,my new mechanic, used to work at the garage that didi everything, he did the sills, and fitted the stainless exhaust, and has done lots on it over the years, but the other garage are now not overly freindly sinse we employed their mechanic..... Anyhow ,it is what it is. Lionel also told me he put it into jaguar last week to be serviced and checked over, the they told him it will maybe need a new starter at £800..... It starts fine, and has done sinse it came back from jaguar...so god knows what that was all about. Every button i have pushed works. The wheels are good, the tyres all near new, the tool kit complete,

Please, please, please have sold this, it's £159 on the train and 425 miles away, at 23 to the galleon, that's another £100!

oh FFS I was going to say the same thing on 320's thread! Who will crack first?

Not me.  I'd either have to flog off the Sable and make up the difference (because there would be one, a substantial one) or spend on getting it fixed, assuming I or anyone else can work out why it does what it does and what the remedy might be.  And then flog it off.  So, don't think it's going to happen.  I would have liked another Jag, but it's the wrong time, and anyway (I can tell myself) it's too young.  I want (I keep telling myself but not listening) older.

Whats the workmanship like on the sills???

Yes, I'd prefer the old ones rather than shitty-welded new steel.

I'd be stuffing gripfill into any pigeon-shit holes and filling the cavities with something to stop rot, meself.

So, i have now put about 1500 miles on it, nothing has gone wrong. I can however state that is does seem to use a wee bit of oil, nothing alarming, but i did top it up. And sometimes after not being used for a day or two, the key needs a few turns to make the starter work?? Otherwise, its spot on, managed 25 mpg on a run, but 21 mpg is more the norm. PRICE REDUCTION. £650.

I could possibly get it anywhere between Berwick and Dover on the 16th but it will be midnight on as its an early ferry,
