Yuck Mr Dugong. I'm surprised you can bring yourself to show off such a filthy fuel filler. Tut tut.

Ah well, true, best scrap it [takes bobble hat off).

You know most of that's underseal, yeah?

any bill for changing the timing belt?

*curious*

Mentioned twice in the service book - sticker first time, biro next. Previous owner reckoned he'd had it changed too. I'm going to file it under "don't worry about this."

I'm a fan of underseal. I'd dinitrol that thing until it was farting out of the box sections.

Chop, chop.

The two holes in the base are for the cables and show the forward position, as standard the stick is well cantered to the driver

Thanks PB. No rush, so a Hollies meatfeast is probably going to be fine. Not sure when I'll make it to the next one but I'm sure I will at some point!

The Samara's gear knob was in "left thigh" position when I go it too, but it was easily solved by crawling underneath and turning the gear-change tube a couple splines to the left on the back of the gearbox.

I have been made aware of it. I think the bloke is on the wrong forum by the look of it.

My Nippa is mostly failing to be as alluring as the Sirion, though folk are properly amazed at how small it is - 30cm longer than an original Mini and a few mm narrower. Mind you, the Nippa had a tough first week given that I was blatting around in a fabulous Ami.

on the subject of Amis

I was speaking to a chap yesterday in Ross on Wye, who has around thirty 2CVs, inc rippled bonnet ones, DYanes, mehari and Ami (8s and estates, he says). Was chatting to him and said you'd been to visit last week.  Told him about the micros and the other toys I had.

Have a photo of the local Perodua dealer down the road (now a fully fledged Proton dealer):

^Just like the dealership with Proton signs near me, not a single Proton in sight!

Back to Perodua. The one issue I have with this car is that it's near-impossible to avoid giffer-style pulling away, especially on hill starts. It will stall too readily, so you pile on revs. But you don't need many revs for it to be churning out a good dollop of torque, though you still need to slip the clutch to stop it bogging down. The result is a really stinky clutch and people surprised at the lack of grey hairs in your beard. I can see why the first clutch was replaced at 10k miles now. I don't recall the Sirion being quite this bad. I certainly never got a whiffy clutch with it.

Appropriately grim weather for visiting a Perodua dealer today, so I did.

Oh yes. That reminds me. It failed its MOT on a steering rack gaiter. Should be sorted on Wednesday.

Yesterday, at 16:40hrs, the Nippa found itself sitting on a ramp where work was due to commence on replacing a steering rack gaiter. This was causing some concern as I was due to drive home in it 20 minutes later.

20 minutes later.

Should have done it myself really! However, an MOT certificate has now been issued. To celebrate, we went caravaning.

Some friends are stopping on a local campsite.

I do have some concerns about the back end of this car. It seems quite creaky and the ride is absolutely terrible. Previous owner reckons he'd changed all of the dampers only a couple of years ago. Mind you, comparing a Nippa with a pair of Citroens for ride comfort is never going to end well.

Thats a clean looking wee car, sills and arches look good for a 2001, better than my Shuma's at the same age.

That underside rocker cover cover was exactly like mine. Where does this sludge eventually end up?

I had to check the new engine, which was all nice:

In case you get stuck for bits, search for "Daihatsu Mira" bits, just proof the exhaust system is the same:

Given that this thing has had oil changes every five minutes, I'm pretty sure it won't be sludgy hell in there. Thanks for the parts tip though. Could prove very useful. It is likely to need an exhaust before too long.

I hadn't driven the Perodua for a few days, because I'd been too busy faffing about with Citroens. Today, I was a little worried that I might find it truly hateful. After all, how can you compare a Citroen DS with a V6 engine with a tiny, harsh-riding Daihatsu copy from the land that decent quality plastics forgot?

Oddly, I seemed to like it even more than before.

I enjoyed that! Reminded me of the original top gear programme. Nice car too. There's something refreshing about bog basic cars.

I see what you mean about the ride, looks really jiggly.  Mind you, the smile it puts on your face reinforces your attitude that basic is brilliant.

I still don't like it as much as the Sirion, but it does have that magic feeling that only a truly cheap, fairly crap car can generate. No wonder a lot of Lada dealers sold them.

Another month gone and it's still here and still proving the perfect vehicle. I often choose it over the XM when heading into town as it's such a piece of piss to park - manual steering aside.

However, there are times when you're reminded that this was a bloody cheap car when new. Like this morning.

It clipped back in place but I guess I'd better be more gentle with it...

A good vid there Mr WobblerofDollys, has that Old School Woollard era TG feel to it, and you even have a vastly superior beard to Mr Goffey. C*ntson smashed up a Nippa in one of his vids, because it wasn't a million pound supercar, and he's a bell end. These really are perfect cars for pottering to the shops in, sipping fuel, and able to park almost anywhere with ease. If it wasn't for the 60 mile commute via the A14 to work, I'd be tempted with one

I believe old c*ntchops actually smashed up a Perodua Kelisa, which makes him an even bigger knob.
