The car you've always promised yourself (not necessarily a Capri)

I already own the car I always wanted an XR2 mk2 but I've fallen out with it and not it's sat dining in the garage.

I'd love a load of other stuff though mainly 80's Fords, a 3 door Sierra or an Escort mk4 1300, a fiesta van or one of them south African pickups. Loads of other stuff too

Being a Honda licker, it would have to be an early NSX. Unfortunately prices have risen in the last few years, so it will remain forever out of reach.

More realistically a 3rd or 4th gen Prelude or 98MY Accord Coupe V6 (with OEM bodykit).

There were two NSX shells in my local scrappy until it got cleared out. Think they're bean tins now :(

Okay... if we are allowed to wander off into the realms of fantasy and dreams, then I want a Bentley 3/8 special!

3 litre chassis with the 8 litres running gear and engine. There are one or two of them about and they are seriously bloody beautiful in an aggressive, purposeful sort of way. All made in the 30s usually from hearses or limos and older (1924) 3 litres that were cheap as chips... then! They were used at Brooklands a lot and one still holds the outright lap record, which is unlikely to be beaten now is it!

Rover P6 3500.

Any variety of P6 would do really, but I really want a V8 and the values of the things are only going to rise...

Also any old Jap tin from the 1970s. Mazda 1000, Toyota Publica, Mitsubishi Minica, not too picky as long as it's from the Nippon.

1986 C or D reg Rover Sterling. 3 times now I've managed to miss out on that elusive Silver D-reg Sterling, someone else ended up buying it and enoying it. I've given up now.

A nice W140 S-Class is a more realistic goal, maybe a W126 would be great too.

I'd love a Panther Solo, however I'd love to not have a divorce slightly more.

1987-panther-solo-2.jpg

Sierra Cosworth engine in the middle, 2+2 seating, a carbon fibre bodyshell (that I read about in an IMechE paper while doing my degree) and headlights that rotate rather than pop up.

I think from reading one of Trigger's scanned road tests that it wasn't as refined as a Lotus which probably means the ownership experience will be spent with the car on the driveway waiting for another elusive part, repair costs making the purchase price look cheap.  But I'd still like to have one.

But in 426 flavour. Would love an interceptor, at least I have had one for a couple of days.

Would love a mk1 V6 granada - prices are silly now, and they are not as good as an SD1 V8 (whichI have)no matter what ford fans say.

Jensen CV-8, ideally a mark 3 in dark grey with red leather interior. I prefer the look of them to the interceptor. A chap at our local cat club in London had one and it was beautiful and sounded awesome.

Lancia Stratos. Our a kit version of one. I wouldn't drive it just park it in the living room as an art piece.

I'd also like to build a Haynes roadster type Lotus 7 replica. But there is more chance of me inventing a cure for cancer while resolving the middle east with bacon sandwiches than me having the ability and patience to do that.

Citroën SM, with a genuine need for doing business in the South-West of France and Vienna every Spring. WIthout the need to cover vast distances at reasonable speed, the car would for me be a little pointless.

2 door RR, suitably original, a bit faded with patched seats but reasonably straight and corrosion-free - that's one reason to go to France.

Mobylette AV32. Another few hundred quid of fuel in the SM, and the excuse to stretch her legs through France again. Would it fit in the boot?

Not liking modern Bavarian cars, I'd fancy a (pre-war) 328. I've a feeling it would be better than nearly all the more recent stuff and quite a pleasant car to own and use. Would obviously need to go and find the right one in the SM. Bringing back the EMW equivalent would be interesting.

I could be persuaded* to cross the Dolomites and try to track down a Dino Spider. If not, then a 130 coupe could be fun. I'd love another early SudSprint, too.

I have always admired this from Practical Classics.

Another vote for the SM here, loved it since I was a kid and my Grandad gave me brochure for one (which I cut up to stick on my wall - wish I hadn't) - he was a Citroen man having a Big 6 Traction Avant and a couple of early DS's back in the late 70s/ early 80s when they were dirt cheap (again I wish so much he'd kept them).

Being slightly more realistic I'd have to say a Mk2 Jag or a DS (early one with the single headlamps) along with the money to be able to run them as a daily would be superb.

Being unrealistic a Ferrari 400i would make an amazing daily driver if I had very deep pockets.

I have had most of the cars that I wanted when I was a kid so there isn't really anything left now that I could still afford. The Interceptor is a very nice car but I never really got on with mine and much prefered the 541. A nice CV8 or the later SV8 could tempt me back into a jensen. Or maybe another Maserati an original 3500 or even one of the modern ones with the hockey stick rear lights. A decent lottery win though would have to be spent on a pre war Delage or Delehaye one of the art deco type bodies and of course a Facel Vega. Until then though I will just continue to enjoy the Rolls and whatever other cheap shite I can drag back from France.

I would really fancy a proper Landie, especially a nicely weathered series 2a. Unfortunately, OLLI tax means that even a rotten series 3 is now £1K, so there's little chance I'll be able to afford an earlier one

Posted

I really fancy a Citroen C6 and part of me keeps telling myself I should buy one now on the grounds that they're about as cheap as they're going to get, but with the proviso that I definitely sell it after a year or so before I waste too much money keeping it going. I haven't done so yet as I suspect that once I'd got one I'd want to keep it for ever.

The first car I really had a strong desire to own was a Citroen Ami 6 berline, which has never left me. Thanks to the generosity of a colleague I have done a lot of miles in a beautiful 1963 example this year, but I still need to have my name on the V5 of one, so it will happen sooner or later. Maybe this year, if not then definitely next.

Here I am leaning coquettishly against a fucked example in Orange a few years ago. This was the highlight of that family holiday for me

I also, from a very young age, had a bit of obsession with Reliants. When I was 11 I could recite the entire history of the company and the various different models they produced etc. This is a box that still needs to be ticked. Preferably a scruffy Regal saloon, but prices are beginning to reflect their rarity and I would struggle to justify spending serious money on something so obviously shit.

When I was nine I fell in love with Bond Equipes (not 2-litres, but all previous models) which at least I have owned even if I never drove it. Again, I do want one of these to smoke about in but I know it's gonna feel just like a Herald to drive (ie, a bit rubbish) which puts me off a bit. Still think they're lovely to look at in a really hideous way.

post-3924-0-34611000-1426019956_thumb.jpg

I have wanted a Panhard 24 for a long time, purely for the looks. So that's ticked off the list. I have a LONG list of things I really want to experience which includes, but is not limited to, a very early Renault Twingo, Peugeot 406 coupe, Lancia Flavia coupe and Flaminia berlina, Fiat 130 coupe, Standard Vanguard phase III (I'm not sure why either), series one Rover P6, Rochdale Olympic, Peerless GT, Ogle Riley 1.5, NSU RO80.... None of which are beyond the realms of possibility, and some of them might even happen in the next year or so There are lots of more exotic motors I have lusted after at various times, but pragmatism prevents me from thinking too much about them.

Oh, and a Watling. Obviously. Which I have finally managed to confirm the existence of, so the chances of me having one have at least gone from 'zero' to 'something'.
