She is a lady of impeccable taste! I suggest we reconvene tomorrow to finish the estate before focusing our attention on the superior saloon

I agree the Estate needs finishing, but is an undernourished, manual, Carlton Saloon worth the effort!

In 1993 this one was my new company car.

Oh and a manual, heavier estate without cruise is worth the effort?

I did have a Carlton Saloon as a company car and I agree with Mrs6C the shape is pleasing. Mine was a 2.0i GL Auto in Frost blue, the spec was better than a Club, but lacked the pretty alloy wheels and still no cruise.

My rank put me on the margin for having a Carlton as a company car rather than a high spec Cavalier so no  GSi for me or even a CDXi. The company rule was nothing over 2 Ltr for anybody below director level.

This morning in lovely sunshine was MK Modern Classic's Breakfast meet. A few less cars than in the summer but still a worthwhile trip in the Metro.

There is another hint here of what is happening tomorrow!

Sounds more exciting than our six monthly family trip to the dentist.

Today we had a further session preparing the Carlton Estate for MOT.

The first task was to fit the new front discs.

Then look onto why the fanbelt was shredding, turns out the fixings for the cam cover was broken. Now we know what is wrong we can go back to it.

The big success tonight was getting the o-s rear subframe bush into place. :common007:

They do a poly bush version of that subframe bush, loads easier to fit and lasts forever

As I was accused of using under paid staff yesterday I thought I had better own up to child labour exploitation today, this one works for Dr Pepper!

I approve of child labour - they’re cheap and have small hands to reach difficult areas.

She’s asleep!!! She washes cars, comes home and falls asleep? The house is silent! Pure bliss!

That’s all the jobs on the MOT failure and advisory sheet done…..plus things the MOT man didn’t see.

So next week is D-Day and it can be thrown at a MOT bay again to see what they say,

After that, I’m pointing to the next one! The ultimate Carlton…..the 1.8, prefacelift GL saloon.

A fair bit done today on the Sigma getting the cylinder heads back on. Rain, need for some parts and Phil's back hurting means it is not finished. Next Saturday maybe?

The Big News of the day is the Mini Mayfair is back!

The rotten wreck that had been off the road for 25 years has been transformed into a legal running driving Mini again.

Woop! the turn around on that, I have to say, if you dont mind the language, has been fucking impressive :) I am really pleased for you, that your where able to find someone who was able to take the bull by the horns and just get it sorted, and that the project did not bog down or stall as they can do

I am very much looking forward to seeing it up close and in person at the FoD or such at some point, I have never actually been up close and personal with a traditional mini, although my mum owned one before I was born and she loved it, despite it otherwise being the Antithesis of what she normally drove/tends to like in a car

Yes, ok it is in the container and needs to be fitted. Anyway it would have been full of red Mercedes that was following him just in case!

April this year Colin a Mini owning friend from Milton Keynes Classic Car Club encouraged me to buy this Mini saying he would help me. He then volunteered his Mini owning friend Geoff to do the welding needed. He fitted a fair bit of metal work, but not the worst he had seen. It had both sill, cross members, floor sections and half the boot floor.

Geoff’s involvement was supposed to end with the welding, but he asked me if I needed the brake pipe behind the rear subframe replaced while he had it in the air as it looked rusty! Then Geoff asked if I wanted him to go through all the brakes, of course I did, the car had not been used for 25 years. New wheel cylinder, master cylinder, flex pipe as a matter of course and metal pipes as needed.

Next message was I would like to get it started. It was missing the oil filter housing so that got fitted   and after a bit of a struggle it started. I added oil and acetone in the bores as the engine was a bit seized when I got it. That sprayed out all over Geoff’s garage as a gunge.

Geoff says the worst bit for him was finding the clutch was stuck in spite of new slave and master cylinders. Once he took it apart and gently chiselled it unstuck. Everything was in good condition and works well now.

This is the abridged version. I am so pleased with Geoff, a man I had not met before for all his efforts to save this Mini that would have died without him.

Yes there are still jobs to do the heater matrix is weeping and the interior needs preparing and refitting along with a few other jobs.

The paint has been rattle canned which has made it tidy, but I want to use the car so there is no plan to do any more with it.

A 3.0 24v Carlton was my dream when I worked for the Vauxhall dealer, I drooled over the Diamond Estate brochure when they were announced, but never even saw one.

I have driven a Manual Senator 24v saloon and I think I prefer the Auto in that car.

Well done on the mini resurrection, I must admit that I think it looked awful to start.

Loving the mini, looks very mid 90s- you need an oasis cassette for the stereo to complete it.

Great work on the Mini! And incredible to see it resurrected.

Never had the chance to own one… but think I would probably like to!
