Once again the n-s front indicator of the Mercedes E320 Coupe has fallen out, after I had it hand washed yesterday. I was getting it ready to take to a local Triumph meeting and the only light unit I had was the wrong hand so I turned it upside down and taped it on.

Mrs6C was horrified and refused to be driven in the Frankenstein car and even preferred to be driven in the Morris!

A new indicator is on order.

I think that’s number five! I lost two! I cable tied mine in. I think it’s the pattern wing not having the correct internal shape.

ps. It’s not a triumph!

It is Friday night and @ianbmw could have taken his girl dancing!

Instead he fitted the new rear discs to the Carlton Estate and adjusted the hand brake. Then moved on to the next MOT fail task of replacing the rear sub-frame bushes. The o-s bush came out with some effort, but then we were thwarted by not having a plate to push up the new bush into place and then somebody switched out the light.

The plan is to regroup with extra tools next week to finish the job.

One day, that Carlton will MOT.

when that day happens,I will still hate all cars, but I will take a huge delight in bringing the most desirable spec Carlton back to life…..

Of all the cars we have to play with an undernourished, low spec, damaged Carlton saloon takes your fancy!

ME - I would love to see our Citroen CX or 1983 Alfa Giulietta 2.0 back on the road.

I reckon that in totally, we will spend 6 -7 hours doing all the MOT failures (two of them were questionable!)

so that would of been a morning work to proper garage, yet they quoted a obscene amount to do it.

Assuming the weather plays ball, the plan is to MOT it next week

The garage simply said the car was not worth repairing!

Secure timing belt cover.

adjust fan belt

Not break down on the way to the MOT.

On Tuesday my Rolls Royce is booked into an autosparks as it is not charging properly. After the dynamo was fitted with new brushes it does show charge, but you have to be doing 50mph. I have not been using it, today it started easily and went on a test drive in preparation for Tuesday.

Wasn’t the main problem with dynamos that they didn’t charge at idle? So alternators took over.

That is true, but it still used to charge when the revs raised a little. Now does not until it is spinning quite fast and these have adjustable regulators and I am hoping some adjustment will correct that.

The indicator is back in the Mercedes E320 and working but does not feel very secure.

I am going to ask @Mrs6C to take a look at it tomorrow.

The fan belt fell off during the test! But they carried on regardless.

but without the alternator charging, it throws an ABS light on due to not enough grunt.

Bit like my last 2cv test. No wipers, lights or headlights etc. well no the battery was dead and alternator wasn’t doing anything. Enough charge to get to the test though, and was running to do emissions .

In all honesty, with a leaking fuel pipe and the fan belt not charging the alternator, they should of stopped the test .

They also failed it on the EML light being on. However it’s a pre 2003 petrol and therefore, that’s not a failure.

im just going to take it to the local MOT man to me, who just does MOTs  and doesn’t pick up a spanner……or a watering can to put washer fluid in…..or a screw driver to adjust headlamps.
