A car is a car at the end of the day, a means of transport and as pretty as some may be to look at if it doesn’t do what you need it to then it’s no use. Listening to Gordon Murray this week about the new supercar - didn’t discuss power or performance figures ( although it’s a 4litre v12 in a 1000kg car so won’t be slow), but he was keen on showing all the luggage space and low servicing costs and decent mpg.

Which of the million podcasts/YouTube channels he spoke to did you choose?

(I very much enjoyed him talking to Harry last time with the T.50.)

Hang on, aren't you (even) younger than LBF?

Yeah, but I clearly have better taste in music!

Thanks to @Slowsilver for his help today setting up the roller at the FoD and being the test pilot for the new mower.

I bought the roller nearly 3 years ago brand new, but it sat in the grass outside so the bolts that I never tightened were quite rusty and needed a clean and WD40. Next was filling it with kiln dried sand not that easy because even with an 80 degree funnel the sand would not flow sideways so we had to up end the roller to get the sand in. We added 80kg but feel we need to add some more weight so I have ordered another 60kg of sand.  The 13HP mower pulled it very easily.

Slowsilver is concerned the steering on the new mower is a bit stiff, but that is for another day.

It was lovely at the FoD today 11° C and hardly any wind, if anybody else wants to come up and work on stuff when the weather is being reasonable then contact me. I can often arrange my diary to get time off during the week.

I see the faithful old retainer is forced back onto the land work again. Paid peanuts ( or cashews ).

You want fit a road roller axle and roller to the back of the astra van, maybe in place of its own axle.

That'll get the field flat 😂

Alternatively, you could re-create one of these:

It does look a bit chunkier than the old one.  Do the headlights work?

Headlights not tested, another volunteer needed to put their tongue on the wires or maybe just turn them on!

I thought the only answer was to buy one of these!

And I bet you Slowsilver will want to drive it!

New front Matador tyres for the ZX TD Estate today. The Continentals that came off have lasted 19,000 miles.

When I was a child on holiday we used to call them French starts - spinning the wheels away at junctions.

I took the 230TE to a small car gathering in Milton Keynes this morning, it was an absolute joy to take out. I think it just looks great and somehow old Mercedes just suit me so well.

Yes it is a running project but this morning I forgave it its blowing exhaust and all its other issues.

Blimey, that's a diverse selection of old motors! Good to see them out in all weathers though.

Today started well, I collected the E320 Coupe with a fresh MOT and serviced. The instrument lights work again just as @richardmorris said they would with a good twist. The radio was dead and the garage took it out and could find nothing wrong  with the wiring so put it back in and it works fine.

On the way home I was thinking what a lovely drive it was, but the left indicator started blinking very fast. When I got home and checked if the problem was front or back the whole front unit was missing. Remembering crashing down a pot hole when meeting a car in a lane and having to pull to the edge of the road I went back to look. I found it, but unfortunately it was broken so I have had to order a new one.

That’s the third one it’s had then!! I am sure I had cable tied the last one in place! I think it must be the copy wings not being exactly the right shape. Radio I don’t know- it’s always worked for me - came out of Anna burmajsters pluriel.

Check the spares box, there may be and indicator in it that is slightly less battered.

In spite of the warnings of doom I would still like a Pluriel, but make it a 1.4 manual please.

Perfect opportunity for an amber indicator conversion.

The facelift ones look odd with amber indicators. I admit it should have amber wing repeaters but changed them to match. The originals are in the boot.

I have checked hoping for a orange bulb without any luck as I thought I could tape it back in and keep using it. I found the other indicator unit in the boot but fitting clip is broken.
