richardmorris Posted June 25, 2023 Posted June 25, 2023 I will try not to derail the thread too much, but Chris wanted information on the semaphore tower I visited on a walk this morning. there were 14 plots of land bought ( 15 days after the battle of Waterloo) between 5 and 9 miles apart depending on the topography. Chatley Heath was by far the largest built and most were two storey. It’s 9miles as the signal is sent / crow flies to the admiralty. And 75 miles to Portsmouth. it was fully operational in 1822 and messages took 15 mins to reach Portsmouth. Decommissioning was in 1847 after the railways and invention of the electric telegraph. Six-cylinder Posted July 1, 2023 Author Posted July 1, 2023 I have to thank @Zelandeth for doing the honours last night and collecting my Citroen BX from Hitchin on a Friday afternoon. It had been to the Chevronic Center, Citroen specialist to have its heater cables made to work, handbrake cables replaced and a rear hydraulic leak cured. Now home in fine fettle it would be an obvious candidate for Shitefest 2024. Zelandeth, Coprolalia, wesacosa and 15 others 18

timolloyd Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 What’s the red car in the foreground? Is it the soft top version of the infamous Pistonheads car?

High Jetter Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 Now I'm at my PC, I did a search and remembered I'd heard about these years ago, when working at a dealership in Bexhill & Hastings. Moar info here: https://www.elva.com/elva-history.html

Six-cylinder Posted July 3, 2023 Author Posted July 3, 2023 When should we have the next FoD? I would like to organise a couple more weekends at FoD for 2023, when would you like them? I am available: 29/30th July 12/13 August 26/27/28 August 2/3 September If the weather is with us for one of the weekends and we have enough man power I would like to take all our running cars to the FoD along with those already at the FoD for a photo shoot. The target would be 30 working and a few towed into line. Anybody volunteer to plan, organise and be the main camera man? LightBulbFun, richardmorris and Prince_of_darkness91 3
brownnova Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 First one is FOTU and last one is RADWood at Bicester heritage which might limit attendance. Having said that, I’m not booked for FOTU and that is the only date I can do off that list 😭
chaseracer Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 2CV 24hr, bank holiday weekend. Otherwise, any of those! 😁

AnthonyG Posted July 3, 2023 Posted July 3, 2023 Probably won’t be able to do the bank holiday in August due to family stuff but the other dates look OK for me.
