I can't imagine this is a comfy ride

When I saw it parked I assumed it had air suspension but no, saw it being driven and that was it

it's on modified bay window stuff I think.

I'm a big fan of this style of VW bus, I've had a few, still go one squirreled away, however the attraction to me was the car like ride that a spring in each corner and double front wishbones gave.

This sort of thing makes me shake my head.

Yes I know what you mean, seen quite a few T25s with Bay running gear to get them low, looks great but a backwards step in terms of technology. Those vans drive really well, my stock 2.0 panel used to surprise a few people when they tried to keep up around the country lanes.

The answer to how it steers (as above) is narrow front suspension so there's room under the arches, but of course there are trade offs in terms of handling again.

Modifying vehicles to make them worse will bite us in the arse. One of the tunts are are probly stuffing a shagged BMC 2.2 into an bare-metalled Golf to make it smoke more.

Posted

That T25 is a joke really. It's rotten all on the front and why's it's got some stupid air scoops? that's what the black bits higher are for.

All that suspension says is I'm individual while being the same. It's the kind of thing you get stuck behind doing 10mph as it desperately tries to avoid potholes or speed bumps.

American Copart has a great classics section, with over 2,500 vehicles from a flood damaged Model T onwards. But some of them...

Secondary Damage: BIOHAZARD

Est. Retail Value: $1,678 USD

What possible reason could you have to buy this thing?

It's L shaped. If someone told you to park it round the corner, you could literally park it round the corner.

It's L shaped, wasn't worth much before, and someone died in it. What does a car have to do to be sent straight to the baler?

I suspect the bio hazard is blood. Yuck , why even bother trying to sell them ?

Posted

Given the state of those, I would be surprised if the biohazard was limited to blood, but certainly hope it's nothing worse.

Looking at those, I'm somewhat glad that we have the write-off classifications that we do and things like that are sent straight to scrap.

It's getting the best value for insurers isn't it and keeping premiums down or profits up.

Biohazard could also be water contamination.

Judging on the state of those two in particular - there's gonna be bits of the last occupants for sure......... someone wrapped that Honda around a large immovable object at a hell of a rate of knots!

I'm now trawling the Copart site though - so a positive out of it in that sense...... thanks.

I think I remember reading something a while ago on Jalopnik or some other American motoring-related website about the American insurance system working in strange ways.

Essentially, the insurer needs to at least try to get some money for the vehicle, no matter how fucked it is, before writing it off.

^^^ That does goes some way to explaining why these listings exist... possibly some legal requirement to minimise insurance costs to consumers by always offering salvage on the open market to recoup some costs, regardless of logic.

The torched LeBaron still does leave a bit of head-scratching, though... how could this almost-literal dumpster fire of a vehicle qualify as an "enhanced vehicle"? I'm not sure a carpet shampoo's gonna make much difference here...

I remember seeing one even better* than anything posted in this thread. It was on Jalopnik a few months ago (so good luck finding it now).

It was the remains of a C6 or C7 Corvette that went up in flames. It was essentially a melted puddle. The only recognisable bits were the engine block and the exhaust tips. It was still for sale on copart though!

My 2001 E46 isn't rusty

It's clean under there

It's just the oily bits on top that are fragile

Biohazard in a lot of cases means either mould or blood/human tissue usually on CopartUSA, and the Septics often cobble a car that should be crushed back up so it only has 'minor' damage, and shove it back on Copart, see youtouber Samcrac, as he loves highlighting these

I honestly don't think that red VW is that extreme...

Here's one he made earlier.

If anyone cares, it's rear engined and runs on a modified Beetle floorpan.

Twatty, but fun.

If he'd kept it as a Hitler staff transport vehicle, he wouldn't be paying VED though, plus it looks utterly twattish, and to be honest, 99% of people will think 'what the fuck has he done to that battered builders van?'

I'm afraid that's a tenner you owe me, I saw him a couple of weeks ago and he looked as sane as you or I*

Just for the record, I don't think this is cool.

It is clever, but it is all so utterly pointless.

Denis is a nice bloke though and he is catering to a market that is out there.

Ok, but only if you lay the tenner in front of the van and watch it get grounded out on it
