'just bloody scrap it' - the eBay 'fuck me, what were they thinking' thread

Scoffing aside the early front grille on that ascort will fetch a ton alone.

It's in Romania, so there might be a Romanian V5C with it.

Just sayin', like.

With early axle numbers, engine and box that could easily make the selling price in parts alone

Someone will restore that. Suffix A rangies make a bastard fortune these days. Still kicking myself that I didn't buy the very tidy 1971 suffix A I was offered about 18 years ago for £400.

It's OK it's only had two owners before. They were a Farther and son who looked after it really well.

Following on from that MOT-less Passat W5 I posted in the other eBay thread...

'53 Volvo V70 2.5 R AWD Geartronic.

Clearly these are quite rare and demand quite a bit of fuss. 300hp through a viscous AWD system and the Chocotronic gearbox would probably exercise your sphincter to the point where it could crimp off a marble worktop.

It would certainly be at home in the low cost high liability thread, but...

THIS IS A GENUINE EXAMPLE OF THIS RARE VOLVO 'R'... JUST NEEDS A LITTLE TLC AND THE MOT!!

MOT-free. Right now it's only a genuine example of a paperweight.

PLEASE NOTE, NEEDS A LITTLE TLC TO SOME OF THE INTERIOR PLASTICS, MAINLY THE CENTRE CONSOLE AREA... IT'S CHEAP FOR ONE OF THESE!!! XMAS BARGAIN

Nobody has done anything so bad during the year to deserve this as a Christmas present. You can pick up working 2003 models for this sort of money. You know, ones you can drive on the road? At least for a short while, until the AWD system sharts itself because a tyre was 2mm more worn than all the others.

PRICED JUST TO GO AS IT IS!!! ONLY NEEDS THE FRONT BULBS SORTING FOR THE MOT!! JUST NEEDS A D.I.Y REPAIR OR AN AUTO ELECTRICIAN

Actually it's priced to sit around on your forecourt gathering more dust as it has done since its MOT expired in September 2015...

Given the propensity for Volvo fanboys to froth themselves up a bit about V70 Rs, this is a £500 car as it is, assuming the gearbox and AWD system are in good order.

And that towbar makes me reckon that neither of those elements are likely to be in good order.

Get it MOTed properly (two fucking bulbs - I could do that and I can set salad on fire) get it valeted, get the plastics sorted out, and white-room it for £5500. I'd have slightly more respect for the dealer if they did that than trying to get over three bags for something you would only lawfully be able to drive home or to another garage.

Those Escort crumbs, I mean really. What was the point in risking tetanus by going to the trouble of arranging all that on the grass.

As its only the VIN plate they're selling, the vendor would have had to expend a whole bunch less effort by opening a box of branflakes and then performing a windmillesque manoeuvre with the box in their grasp, thus broadcasting the crispy contents over the grass to achieve an identical 'Escort' 1300GT

^ Stretch limo for pikey weddings?

Never seen a Gypsy wedding then? they are more into gaudy stretch than scrapyard challenge

I could kind of understand gun club might want a level mobile platform for traps n stuff

and

I can see how two chassis were cut, one just forward of the back axle and one just behind the front axle then welded together

but

unless it has an 8 foot prop shaft that is going to be front wheel drive and fuck all use off road. if it does have an 8ft prop that will be undriveable at over 10mph

verdict, no good for your gun club - scrap it mate

As it looks like an old Perkins or similar, my guess it is an old wagon chassis with a Range Rover body dropped on as a cab. Could be an old ex-MOD 4x4 chassis

back end is defo a land rover chassis, you can see cross member and radius arm setup

No.

It really wouldn't.

That ‘stretched’ Range Rover has hurt my eyes.. WTF were they thinking of, FFS?

It would break for spares for a reasonable amount,, the axles, steering, body panels, etc.etc, could be worth some cash.  As it is, I wouldn't give you tuppence for it.

And as for driving on the road... the turning circle must be measureable in light-years.

Front axle is Range Rover too.  The bolt pattern is Range Rover, and I think I can just about see a front radius arm too.  My bet is on it being one range rover with the chassis cut between the two radius arm mountings and just extended with sheet steel.  There's clearly nearly another 100" of chassis in there, which is more than you would get if you welded two RR chassisis together, even using as much of the straight bit as you can.
