Looks like an expensive way to kill yourself.

This week I found out about the Atlantis A1. A car designed and developed in the 80s using lots of Jaguar parts.

Such a cool car

I had a go in one of those when I worked for Mercedes/Chrysler)Smart. I did think about driving it straight under the car park barrier, but the owner was watching

At least two people (or their guide dogs) wanted it bad enough to bid it up to £14K
Looks like the vendor thought that a risible offer as it didn't sell.
I'd have taken the offer :-)

We all know that Hunters were made in Iran almost up to today (albeit disguised as a Peugeot); but did you know they made Avengers as well?

image.png.65fa81ad7e33ba92df9dfdd4d2765426.png

It was made in 2 and 4 door forms, using the same engine as the Hunter (was that the same in the UK?). They exported them to the USSR and UAE (and may be more). It would seem that the basic models were made in Iran and the high spec and more powerful Avengers came from the UK.

I mean, we all know about Triumph Heralds, but did you know they flogged them in Japan?

Hunter had 1500 then 1725 engines derived from the earlier Minx ranges.  Avenger used 1250/1500 then 1300/1600 motors of a completely different design.  As far as I'm aware, the two cars shared no components whatsoever.

It's a total* surprise** that Rootes/Chrysler UK went bump - or maybe that they lasted as long as they did...

Do you have any sources? I'd quite like to read more about that.

I will Google, but if you had something that you thought was good, I'd appreciate the recommendation

I found it on Instagram from an Iranian poster, in Iranian. Instagram makes a fair attempt at translating but you need to use a bit of imagination to understand what it's about.

GAC GS3 it says. Don't even know where the plates are from

My plate geek hat is on today... 🤓 These TU plates are used by Tunisian citizens who work abroad frequently with their cars. Regular Tunisia plates are in the format below. They use Latin script series for travelling abroad. If a regular plate like this one below was to travel abroad it would use TN like 119 TN 4415. Plate geek moment over for today!

Like a cross between a Series Land Rover and a Jeep Wagoneer. Love it.

What possible advantage could this lash-up have had over a readily available W123 or W124 Merc estate?  That lift-over at the rear is ridiculous!

BTW, any guesses as to where those side windows came from?  Ford Granada estate, perhaps, or something else?

The story of the Chaser is an interesting read!  It also makes a very stylish little truck.  What a shame it wasn't followed up.

Well it's larger and more luxurious than a W123 or W124, with a V8 engine, so a rather different proposition.

I think the side windows probably are from the Granada, but I don't know where the tailgate is from.

All Granada, IIRC

I don't know if we have had this one before. It is the only surviving Gaylord  Gladiator with a body. Three chassis were built by Zeppelin at Fredricshafen between 1955 and 1957, originally 25 were planned, but the money ran out and one of the Gaylord brothers was a perfectionist and kept changing the specs, which didn't help. The engine was a 365 cubic inch Cadillac V8 with automatic transmission. Apparently all three exist, but only the exhibit in the Zeppelin Museum where I took this photo last week has a body. The photo looks better than the real thing. Gladiatorcarrs.jpg.a6d7d7857958287feedb32ce4e7d3a70.jpg

Lots of people say the Interceptor was the best car name ever. I have to disagree now. Gaylord Gladiator beats it by a mile!

I think Isuzu Mysterious Utility Wizard takes some beating, although I'd find perverse pleasure in registering a Gaylord with the DVLA
