Cars you didn't know existed until very recently.

Those Konas are by far the most offensive new car design I've noticed recently. Just really, really poor.

I like them. More interesting than their "normal" SUV whatever it is called.

Last one I liked was the new Pug 208 I saw a while ago, did I mention I saw an estate? They're often in a lovely red too. Other than that - yawn.

I’d still not describe it as an SUV, but then my view is that once you step away from the utility of the Defender/gwagon/TLC type stuff there isn’t a lot of point as it will never be as sporty as a car.

It's always nice to have somebody with similar opinions when the world is clambering over itself to buy these stupid things.

We've just got an electric Hyundai Kona at work as part of a big switch to electric vehicles. I don't think I'd ever seen one before so I was going to nominate it for this thread. No idea what it's like and I haven't actually seen it move yet, it just seems to sit on the charging point all the time.

I didn't realise they did the Tercel/Corolla II/Corsa with pop ups front and it looks very much like an AW11.

Very much would.

That reminds me of my uncle's '80 Tercel!

Yeah that does look odd with a corolla badge on the front.  No idea what markets that would have been sold in. Makes me wonder if toyota themselves have the records of what got sold where and when - I doubt anyone is still around with all that information in their head.

Hopefully there is an autoshite equivalent forum in Japanese...where these market quirks are discussed!

Aren't almost all cars in Japan binned by 10 years old due to the rigorous mot style test?

I thought that was why we ended up with so many grey imports.

This is true - it's an excellent example of international co-operation which allows The All Nippon Autoshite  Godo Kaisha to send us obscure cars which can then be featured in this very thread.

Great lads the Japanese.

Pretty sure I saw that, or the dead spit of it, in Richmond today. Sounded hilarious.

1910 Fiat S76. Fiat decided they wanted to get the land speed record off Mercedes. So, obviously, they built a 28.4 litre 4 cylinder engine and loosely assembled some bodywork around it. Here it is on a top speed run in Belgium in 1913:

This was apparently their third attempt after their two previous goes ended up with the drivers getting scared and refusing to drive them any more. Anyway, they broke the record but needed to do a return run to make it count and didn't.

100 years on and a guy from Bristol has restored it:

Here it is at this years festival of speed, he drove it to Goodwood obviously:

Every time I see one of these things I think it's a Fiat Punto.  It's not, it's a Chevrolet Aveo, which is a Daewoo in disguise.  I only ever see the ones with this specific front end too, which appears to be a 2008 only facelift thing.

Totally not a rip-off of a Mercedes S Class. Nope.

Its actually a W124 Mercedes underneath. Here's one what I spotted earlier this year:

I thought it looked like a very obvious rip-off, but didn't realise it was actually based on an S class!

Saw one of these for the first time today, near Beverley. An unfortunately bulbous looking confection. A FIAT Doblo pick-up.

What marketing genius picked a name which is "grovel" spelled backwards?

The Doblo bit folds down, revealing a letter box sized opening.

I saw one of these yesterday in Kenilworth - it was a tree surgeon’s and had a cage over the bed. It looked bloody ridiculous.
