Gaffer, it's a long list but...having thought about it

1973 Mk1 Escort Mexico. Sold it to carpet my first marital home in 1995. I know, you can't hate me anymore than I hate myself.

1952 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Had to sell it to keep the family afloat after being made redundant. Reality truly is a muthafucka on occasion. I won't ever see another, never mind own another.

1994 VW Polo. It cost me a tyre and oil + filters for 30,000 miles over 3 years.

edit to add. Hair

Probably the only one of my cars I regret getting rid of is the 2CV, but I know it would have required a mammoth weldathon and serious structural repairs, new chassis etc, had I kept it. Actually I do regret selling the Landcrab as well, that was in lovely condition, one owner before I had it, and was very well sorted when I sold it.

Mine is a long list too.lol. Ive had to think LONG AND HARD about this but here they are.....

1975 Escort Mk2 1600 Ghia 2 door OFV 80P

1968 Mini Mk2 LDB 460F It had all the right bits and was a rapid wee bastard.lol.

1972 Escort Mk1 1300XL SHG 966K My Grandfathers then my Fathers then mine. This is the one that should have gone into the lockup and NEVER sold.........not for the cash value but the sentimental value.

That is my biggest regret that Mk1. I justify it to myself by remiending myself that although it was a minter on top, underneath and the inner wings really were rotten.

All of them never sell anything just stack them on top of each other in the back garden.

2001 Fiesta Zetec S in Imperial Blue.

Part exchanged it in 2007 for a Fiesta ST because the usual rot had set in despite all my cleaning and polishing efforts.

The only car I've ever owned that I really enjoyed driving.

It was listed on eBay about a year ago in Scarborough, still looking standard and the Magnex exhaust was still on it as well. Sounded lovely it did.

Someone had gone to the expense of having the rear arches repaired and it had a different engine in it.

DVLA says its  MOT'd till December, I never thought it would last this long...

EDIT: Its now £230.00 a year to tax it... fookin 'ell it's just a Fiesta...

^^^^shame but the ST is so much better. I love mine. For such a heavy highish car it's very sticky on the road and takes off like a bugger.

No matter what I aren't selling mine as I know I will never be able to get another

Well, that one was terminally rotten. I had another, DDM 798C, which is still on SORN somewhere.

Phil

Kinell. I nearly bought a 88" Land Rover. GCJ 771D. I wish I knew where it was now... all lost on DVLA.

To add to that,

Hillman Super Minx EFN 636C

Humber Imperial NVB 21E

Humber Sceptre LBL 179E

Standard Ensign 548 DRL.

Toyota Celica Supra 2.8i with Manual box

My 3dr Sierra XR4i

I'm not really eligible.  The only three cars I have owned for a significant length of time I still have - my HB Viva, my Mk1 Sierra and my Mk3 Astra.

I have no regrets selling any of the very many I have had for a short time at all really.  Even the M5 LE BMW, was quite nice to drive but the suspension was ridiculously complicated and expensive and it was just too thirsty.

I never really loved it to be honest. The 2.0 Duratec always felt a bit lazy after the the revvy zetec.

Brakes were superb though and it did stick to the road incredibly well. I only did 10K in it but it was ready for a new set of front tyres and brake pads.

It was slow and unrefined and horrible on the motorway but it was mine for an incredible 12 years.  It is still out there, but chances of me buying it back are slim to none.

This is the only other car I regret parting ways with.  I must regret it because even though it turned out to all be quite so *terminal*, I still compare every car I drive to it and find them lacking... apart from the Princess, obviously.

Volkswagen K70 I had back in the early 80's. The forerunner for the Audi 80 & Passat. Pic isnt of mine, however mine was also gold. It was old even back then. And I am ashamed to confess I scrapped it eventually.

...The mk3 Zephyr my dad bought new in 1965 (DWM 95C) and the mk1 Cortina that he bought in 1974 as an unwanted trade-in from Ginger McCain's (JEV 463C) which was the first car I ever drove.

F260 FHH, Fiesta mk2 1.4S. My first 'decent' condition car, after 2 absolute shitters. Rarer and a bit more individual than the Nova SRs and XR2s that the local 'lads' had at the time.

VLY 484M, Escort mk1. Bought in 1995 as a non runner, was as solid as a rock body wise. Starter motor and brake servo from a scrappy got it running fine. Daytona yellow, four spokes, 1600 x-flow, 4-2-1 with swift motorsport big-bore, proper OSF! Bought for £200, sold once running for £300 so I didn't lose on it, but typical me, bought and sold just before 4 door mk1s skyrocketed in value...

H995 EBM Mercedes 190e. My first 190 in a mega rare combination of the bottom spec 1.8 engine with manual box, and expensive sportline chassis upgrade and even rarer sportline interior with the bolstered recaro front and rear seats.

AMA 261S, Austin Allegro 1300 Super. The archetypal drunken eBay purchase, but that little car grew on me. Bought in 2004 for £225 with full MOT, 5 months tax, and full and complete history, going back to the original bill of sale from Station garage, Queensferry. Had lived in the same area all its life over its 27 years and 51,000 miles under 3 owners. A desirable 2 door as well, in highly sought after* Antique Gold with brown nylon interior. Even had the original Unipart rubber mats! Only used as a weekend bit of fun but was absolutely no bother and was a right laugh to drive. Sadly after I sold it to a mate, and he got the small bit of welding it needed to the rear of the sills, done and put up for sale all ready for paint, you can guess what happened to it and its low mileage 1275cc A series engine...grrr!

Not sure if that's a happy ending or not.  Effectively a Corvette rebody now?

TLO540G - 1600E Cortina. Had it as an apprentice but couldn't afford the insurance as a 17 year old. I sold it to a lad in the same workshop who kept it for a while.

PJL634M - 12TS in yellow. A great wee car and it certainly stood out. Sold it to buy an 18GTS- HDO476W. Last seen in Inverness many years ago. Inner wings went afaik.

AE02 JNU - My old VW Golf GT TDi.

IMG00271-20101006-1040.jpg

Owned it briefly back in 2010, I bought it off my mate for £notverymuch because the clutch had the first signs of slipping. It was a 130bhp but had been professionally remapped to about 185bhp before I bought it.

Over the brief time I had it I did a few little modifications to it and generally enjoyed driving the nuts off it.

I sold it because it was losing power on acceleration (which I now believe was partly down to a filthy K&N filter which had been fitted) and the clutch wasn't getting any better. I sold it to a chap in Chesterfield and never heard of it again until 2014 where, thanks to UKvehicle.com, I found it on an archived Gumtree advert as being situated in Lochgilphead and then Glasgow.

As far as I know it's still around but hasn't been M.o.T'd since June. The owner seems to either be very forgetful or works away from home a lot as the M.o.T has lapsed for a couple of times in recent years. I just want to tell the owner to M.o.T it and avoid it being crushed!

RichL - I'm thinking of getting rid of my Zetec-S should you choose to relive your youth?

Hmm, I've seen that too. Problem is, I've seen early build pics of that and it's a red shell that's been used, not antique gold. But in these early pics, there is an Allegro rolling shell parked next to it in a mixture of antique gold and primer.

Strange...

You must have been related to my grandad. That was his attitude too... he literally had a garden 1/3 of an acre... and treated the whole thing like a junkyard. The number of old motors, engines, motorbikes etc... was unbelievable.
