That Facebook group is CityRovering the Autoshite brand and we'll all suffer as a result.

I was on there for 3 weeks perhaps a month tops, and I just got pissed off with it clogging up everything on Facebook (all my Facebook friends are similarly dull as I am, not much happens on mine) and as mentioned elsewhere the subject matter was sometimes pretty questionable.

Another couple of good pages were "abandoned classic cars uk"and "sitting on a driveway rotting"but then surprise surprise the OLDSKOOLFROD fanboys all started turning up, chatting shit and causing arguments amongst each other and now I have unfollowed both and just go and look at the pages every now and then.

The german one "Vergessene Auto klassiker" isn't bad, lots of opel rekords and E28 BMWs cropping up, that page I would recommend.

I had a look and found it to be mainly terrible so GTF out pretty quick.  I reckon we do need to distance the forum (which is excellent) from the fb page (which is terrible). Renaming would be a start but full on sacking it off altogether would be better as it does appear to be sullying the fine name of Autoshite.

Is it run by the same people as on here?

Aren't you glad you asked‽

Just in case anyone thought I was 'Dicky Braithwaite' - I'm not. AS facebook is full of bellends, I did leave it but rejoined recently and the quality of posts hasn't really improved much. Lots of arguments, poor grammar and pictures of dull modern cars I'm just not interested in.

Mind you, AR online is even worse for pictures of dull moderns. That just seems to be a BINI/crap Chinese MG wankfest and it's very rare an actual ARG or BL car gets posted on there. There is some good stuff on Facebook but a lot of it is shit, you guys without accounts aren't really missing much.

I'm on both the AR and Autoshite pages and as part of that have developed a quite impressive talent of ignore 99.5% of posts in both and only conciously read the ones that might be interesting. My skimming is now second to none.

Both tend to have little to do with the good work on the actual site behind either of them.

Mr Welch is a bloody saint for putting up with some of the morons who manage to post things up on there. A few seem to 'get past the door' here right enough though.

Considering it's the admins who let the 'morons' on in the first place and allow them to continue posting their pointless waffle then surely they should at least take some of the blame if it's shite?

The FB page can be a good laugh and it can be pants, and is frequently both at the same time, but it's totally separate from this forum so forget any notion of renaming it or shutting it down unless the bloke who does run it pulls the plug. He is on here but I can't remember his name. It was set up as somewhere we could gather when the forum went down, which it did quite often for a while.

There are a few good people on there who post worthwhile stuff, but too often you need to wade through irrelevant reposts from other pages, or people posting endless toss about brand new dull shit (which the admins do fuck all about) to get to it. One of the problems the page has for forum members is that there are far too many people who haven't a clue what AS is about, and there's no real attempt at content moderation so a lot of people get put off.

As with everything to do with the internet, if you don't like it, don't click on it.

I didn't even know there was a Facegroup... Okay I'm just going to leave that typo in for you all to enjoy.

I didn't even know there was a Facebook Autoshite page but I look at FOAD's 'Retroshite' page in the same light as this forum even though a 'page' doesn't really lend itself to community input very well like a 'group' does. As for asking an admin of the Aushite page to delete it, fat chance I reckon.

I don't do facebook. Neither does my wife. My sister (49 years of age) rang me the other day to tell me our daughter seems to have made some good friends already at University. Well yes, I spoke to her on the telephone, and she told me about her first week.

Darling daughter also asked if I could have words with her aunt Sarah and ask her to stop the stalking. To which I replied, "No. You accepted her invitation to friend, against the advise of your brother. If you don't want her to see what you are getting up to, don't post it up, or unfriend her or whatever it is you have to do."

Who's the admin Larry S Ceb? Is he on here?

By the way I think it was Rob Clarke who started the group although I can't remember his username now.

Not really. A lot of the so-called 'morons' don't reveal their true colours until they start interacting with others. They're weeded out fairly quickly. The AS Facebook site moves so quickly it really needs a full-time moderator. As Albert Ross works shifts, I really don't see how that can happen.

Rob's on Facebook, bloody great lad. I think though he started Scrapyard Finds (or something like that) which (like the AS page) was hijacked by people so stupid Gumtree refused them membership.

Yeah, while I am here - what the FRICK is the OMGHGFKSERIESROVER thing about?

Oh my god head gasket failure k series Rover engine. Basically it's a common problem on modern Rovers but the jokes been done to death now.

I did decipher it, but I felt I was missing the joke somewhere...

There was no 'joke' to get, it died several years ago now.

I am stealing that, and using it in a meeting tomorrow with Humberside Police

The longer it shares a name with this forum, the more likely we are to get idiots in here. I know we can deal with it but it detracts from what a currently lovely (touches wood) place this has become.

It's been going for quite some time and the idiots don't seem to find there way here, in fact I can't remember the last time any new member on here turned out to be an arse. Actually I can, but it doesn't seem to be a huge problem.

Hey, we've had a new wave of decent folk from the FB page. Forget what I said about killing it. Perhaps it actually serves to keep the muppets away. Only the quality folk make it through to the actual forum.

Gosh. Humberside Polis. I have a bit to do with them in the course of my work, and I have to say, they have their work cut out for them. Any police service that has to cover Scunthorpe, Grimsby, AND Hull is facing an uphill battle.

Very true, but it could happen quite easily. Albert Ross is only one of at least 5 admins on there, all it would take would be an agreed policy of weeding out the people who post useless shit and trolls and you'd clean the place up tremendously.

It's funny, every so often the subject of the Facebook page appears on here and without fail it's the same old faces making the same comments about it, then more often than not you'll see them trot off to the FB page to make some inflammatory or pointless comment before coming back here to moan about how it's full of morons.

It's also worth pointing out that there's almost never any comment on there about the forum. A lot of them don't even realise there is one and those that do aren't the forum joining types anyway, hence why they're on Facebook. Give it another few years and there will hardly be any internet forums left.

Here's the deal.

There is a Facebook page which shares its name with this forum and it's perfectly possible to enjoy using both of them, quite a few of us do.

The jokes on the Facebook page about the K Series as we are effectively kettling the users there to stop them spreading to nearby areas of the internet.

Can we just have an abuse facebook morons chat box on the index page where we can all frequently proclaim our hate for them and maybe they'll think we're a bunch of cunts.

We are a bunch of cunts but you know what I mean.

Probably a grammatical error, but the first thing that struck me, please excuse my dirty, deliverance ridden brain, was that you and your sister had a daughter. Together. In case this is true, please understand that I'm not judging you.

I know im new here and hands up I found out about the forum through facebook....

I do believe the muppets that tend to cause the problems on the facebook page aren't the type of folk to sign up to a forum..

they wouldn't have there side kick pals to like their posts or back them up.. there is a few genuine folk use the facebook page but sadly its facebook and you have the monkeys that just like to post crap and spam and with it being on facebook any page on there is open to these people

No deal. Quite a few of 'us' don't.

We'll have to disagree. You know, like on Facebook. You have your uses for the Facebook page, I have mine. If the Facebook page works for you, great. It doesn't for me. Too much noise to signal. I'll browse and post occasionally.
