modern Beetle. One of the girls at work has a slightly AS orientated black one that appears to be indestructible.

I quite like 'em. Can't afford one, but I'd like one. One for the list when I retire in 4 years 6 months.

Am I mad, kidnapped by aliens or in a coma.

Is she fit? (It might be the thought of getting one will see her bobbing down on you apple......)

I've had Daf's.

I KNOW I've had a bump on the head  :-D

Still like Daf's though.

I wouldn't pineapple in any way. I really wouldn't.

She might be but I'm guessing you are not..

Car equivalent of Spice girl trainers.

It's like a Golf, but pointlessly stylish and far less practical. Maybe the girl at work is the same?

My mum used to say that if you really want something, walk away, think about it for two days. If you still want it then go for it.

(That was before the internet though...... So ridicule was limited)

£1200 too pricey.

No, she's a Gothist, but not overly so. She's going to be a student nurse. I'm quite proud of her. We get on very well despite me being 50, fat, balding and terminally cynical. She is very cute but would hit me if I said that. She likes cats which is very good.

I'll get one but not just yet. It will be either black, cream or yellow. I know this.

Woman at my work has one. I have worked with her for 5 years and inexplicably she seems to be getting younger and younger.

Not sure if thats owt to do with the Beetle though, it might be her haircut.

She let me have a drive of hers. It was the 1.6 version. It was comfy, nice to drive and went well despite it being at the scruffy end of the market. I was impressed.

My mrs has one and has had one before. Current is a 1.4 which are difficult to get hold of in the older ones (hers is an 04). It cheap enough to run and gives little trouble but as said above they are not very practical. Her previous one was mint with 1 careful previous but was the cheap to buy 2.0 that drinks fuel and oil and I wouldn't recommend one of those.

Have never botered about fuel consuption in my life so not likely to worry about that bit. The oil consumption is a little irksome. Why does it do that?

Posted

If you look on google you will find some of the 2.0 ones seem to suffer with this problem, I carn't remember what the cause was but I was concerned when I first noticed but did nothing other than top up regular and there didn't seem to be any excessive smoke, she doesn't do many miles so it didn't really affect us but if you did big miles in one I could see buying oil getting tiresome.

In another life maybe but it isn't like that  :-)

I've driven a 52-plate Beetle with a tuned, supercharged 1.8 petrol engine on slammed suspension. It wheel-span uphill in 3rd gear (which was nice) and severely jolted my spine (not so nice) but otherwise it was just a Golf, really. Although it still had that bloody flower on the dashboard.

Got any pics of the girl?

Turning up at work with exactly the same car as her and shouting "car friend" across the car park I'm presuming (and I'm no expert) will reduce you're chances with her by around 114.2%

DAFs are perfectly sensible* cars for perfectly sensible* people. Well, that's what the voices tell me anyway...

I like them too, despite their close relative the Mk4 Golf.

Their relative impracticality is fine by me, but mine would have to be a V5, on these wheels.sport_v5_wheel.jpg

Valve guides go oval shaped. Amongst other things.

I hired one by mistake in Canada once....Cannot recommend I am afraid.   At least it was LHD so it didn't feel like I was driving it.   Very wrong.   I hated my original Beetle (even though it was the only car I wanted at 17....) but I would have it back rather than drive a new one again.   I don't like all this sitting in a car mid-ships business with the screen about three feet away.  I hated the handling, the stupid weed on the dash and the bastard thing misted up as soon as the sun went in.   Do what you need to about the girl but keep the Beetle in your fantasies....

Missus had a rag top bettle, had the 1.9 derv lump in it. Went surprisingly well for such a heavy car. Used to use it like a pickup, roof down and carry stuff on the back seats.

I just sold one last week and it wasn't a bad drive and very economical for a 2 litre and the one I had was in good nick after spending a couple of weeks and a over couple of hundred sorting out the bodywork and giving it a service etc and sorting out a few electrical gremlins.

The only real gripe was the driving position as I found was you sit a mile away from the windscreen but the seats are very comfortable.

It had only done 64000 miles and came with 13 months mot and sold it for £950 via Facebook and could have sold it 100 times over so I think I let it go to cheaply.

Think of it as a mkIV golf that's not quite as well screwed together and hard to work on due to compromised space under the bonnet also just to change a set of plugs requires the manifold to be removed.

There's quite a few about but a lot of them have been mistreated due to the young girls that normally own them having no mechanical knowledge or it seemed it was with mine when I first got the car.

Ps I did throw the flower away though and I wish I kept the car as I saw it driving away and thought of all the work I put into it to get it up to scratch.

Also check the sills for dents as it seems the majority suffer from kerb damage in that area.
